What a wonderful video. The scenery and the images you took are spectacular. And thank you for proving you don’t need a million-dollar classic to enjoy a road trip. That makes owning and enjoying a classic car more atteignable
Many thanks! That’s right and actually I think having something too flash/precious would detract from the enjoyment a little bit as you’d be worried about it 😊
Nice video and the car looks great. I sold my 1969 MGB GT about 5 years ago now and i miss it lots. I brought it over to Germany with when I moved here in 2010 and my wife and i used it for Classic Rallies, holiday's and weekends away. Plenty of Friday night trips back to the UK (eurotunnel) and then back on Sunday night, ready for work on Monday. It never missed a beat, never let me down and was a great little car for long trips. Very underrated cars and Abingdon's finest.
Thanks Mark, following your channel for a while now, great content. Always wanted to do the same trip in our MGB so watching with particular interest on this latest series of videos! Great to see the car being used as a GT 😊
Thanks for the support! It was a very enjoyable trip and the MG was a great choice 👍 hopefully the rest of the videos will give some inspiration for your own adventure 🙌
Warmest congratulations Mark on both the drive and the quality of the video - wonderful to see the GT being used as a Grand Tourer! Incidentally, my GT also has a noise from under the dash that I've never been able to find. Fortunately, it's over a narrow rev range outside normal cruising revs so it's livable. Doing solo trips like that is genuinely life-affirming! Really looking forward to the next video... Geoff
Thanks Geoff! Yes a great trip to get away for a few days on my own, like you say, life-affirming 👍 That dash noise seemed to disappear after a while and I didn’t have it on the way home, very strange! Glad you enjoyed the video, looking forward to bringing out the next one 🙌
@@petergrice1946 . Peter, on mine, I have yet to validate the root cause but it may be the opening and closing mechanism for the fresh air vent on the dash. I've made a thin damping spacer but have yet to trial it.
Epic first day, well done MG and well done you, you certainly deserved those few refreshing pints😉. I am a huge fan of your channel, but these trip ones are just taken to another level, what with the footage from the drone, the music, the angles etc, true film quality, love them and looking foward to the next part of this epic trip.
Thanks very much!! I’m very much an amateur at doing all of this stuff so it’s nice when people like the results! Yes ‘day 2’ comes out tomorrow and it has even more of the good stuff 👍👍
What a nostalgic trip down memory lane! Your 1969 MGB GT sounds like it was more than just a car; it was a companion for unforgettable adventures, seamlessly blending reliability with timeless charm.
Civilisation seems to stop after Carlisle, I don’t envy that slog until you see the Glasgow lights. Doing well and great footage. Hope all is well for the next stages.
Brilliant to see this car on the road, fab video I must do a video on my old GT they have such character. Drive safe and look forward to more content. All the best 🚙
Thanks! I agree, lots of character and not too flash or expensive to worry about them, plucky little things that gets lots of waves and smiles! Just the job😊👍
Great video. Well done for having the courage to do a trip like that in an old classic. I’m not sure I’m brave enough to do it in my MGB! But that shot of yours at the Skyfall location should be on your wall. It looks amazing. Looking forward to the next video.
Thanks! Brave or daft 🤣 but nothing ventured, nothing gained and I’d hoped that I’d be able to fix any issues at the roadside, I had a great time and the MG was a good choice of car! Yes pleased with some of the pictures I got, easy to get good pics with that scenery though 🤣
Congratulations Mark on getting that far. These cars need to be used! Well done to do it in one day. I usually plan on stop’s every two-three hours! Drone footage was stunning as was the car in the Skyfall spot! Looking forward to the rest of the videos. Cheers Martin
Thanks Martin! Yes tiring to do that distance in the MG in one day but meant I had more time explore the Highlands/Skye on subsequent days so seemed worth it, hope you enjoy the rest of the videos to come!
@@granblogismo sounds cool. Although a few beers and glasses of wine are always a great way to reflect on the day’s drive. Looking forward to the videos of the Isle of Skye..
This series is fascinating fella. And timely. I actually booked a few days at The Ardgour Inn with the intention of me and my lad going there for a few days during half term. But, sadly, we chickened out. As you alluded to in your video, I was anxious that the MGB GT would fail me, and leave me and my son stranded on the M6 and our trip ruined. Im sure that wouldn't have happened, but the worry that it might was enough for me to cancel and we went nearer to home (The Peak District) for a few days instead in our normal car. Less exciting, but at least I got him out for a few days. But your video has really inspired me to maybe do the trip on my own soon enough. The scenery is outstanding. And as a photographer I have to get myself up the next of the woods. And I'd love to do it in the MGB. It needs quite a bit more work though to assured reliability. Also, at 09:10 in your video, is that the Three Sisters? I think it is. Stunning. And thanks for sharing your experience.
It’s a real worry isn’t it? Even with a car full of tools and spares I was less than confident but as the trip went on the anxiety faded, I’m not sure how I’d feel bringing a passenger, on my own at least I just have to worry about myself and fixing the car in my own time but I’d probably not not risk it with someone else unless they were also interested in old cars and their foibles 🤣 I think you did the right thing and a trip on your own is something else to look forward to 👍👍 Yes scenery was incredible and just got better as the trip went on! Yes three sisters at that point on the left, the car park/viewpoint was just round the next couple of corners I think 🤔
@@granblogismo awesome. Yes I think a solo trip is wiser. I am the same in that if I’m only inconveniencing myself it’s ok. But if other are around it stresses me out
Well done for getting to your first stop, was keeping a close eye on your speedo, you was certainly motoring 😊 Amazing views and I must say those Ribs on your plate looked amazing. Keep safe
Thanks! Yes looked like I was pedal to the metal but my speedo reads about 15% over (I’ve got GPS speed on my satnav) and my rev counter it all over the place 🤣 makes it seem more dramatic though 💥
Would love to do the Glencoe road in my MGBGT too. Its supposed to be titanium but feels like the respray is a bit more silver than it should be. 81 reg'd GT LE with chrome bumper conversion. Would die to get a set if wire wheels on it, have the minilites on for now 😁😂 Thats a great trip, glad you recorded it
I always look forward to your road trip films Mark and this one didn't disappoint! Really pleased that you stopped off at the Skyfall location, that you so nearly reached when you did the previous trip in the XK8.
Thanks! Yes I didn’t want to miss the chance to go there this time 🙈 I was really annoyed how close I was in the Jag, literally drove right past the turn-off so came within a couple of miles of it, doh! Thanks for watching! 🙌
Stunning scenery! My B has'nt got overdrive, with earplugs i am pretending to have it on highway speeds ! Looking forward to tour trip to the isle of skye !
Thanks for taking us along on these tours. I love those Contigo drink containers. I have one for coffee and one for tea. We only clean with vinegar and water and what that doesn't clean, I just leave and call it "seasoning". Do most oils in the UK come in metal cans? Ours are all plastic. Solvants are about the only thing I can think of that are typically found in metal these days.
Thanks for the comment! Yeah those containers are good just my over-zealous cleaning that ruined it 🤣 it’s fine now I’m home and washed again although my wife has taken it for her coffee again 🙈 Most oils come in plastic containers but the ‘classic’ stuff I buy for MG comes in a ‘classic’ metal can 🤣
In my youth in the sixties I loved this car, as the most good looking and practical of the MGBs. Myself I had an absolutely horrible produced 1966 Mini, with all the possible faults it was humanly possible and - impossible to add to a car, at the end with a 1275 engine and reasonably fast. But luckily it became my one and only British car, as I then bought a properly "finished" BMW2002! Finn. Denmark
3:38 that seems like an unpleasant engine speed to cruise along the motorway, isn’t it? Out of interest, what is the most enjoyable/bearable speed to drive for a longer time ? Fabulous shots, but didn’t expect anything less from the Glen Coe region. It keeps amazing. Eager to see the footage and report of day 2
Haha yes it would be if it was accurate! My rev counter over-reads considerably, I’m not sure if it’s double count or just wrong but I’d certainly not drive at 5k revs for 8 hours 🤣🤣🤣 I’d say 60 is probably the most comfortable for revs/wind noise/actually getting somewhere but I try to keep to 65-70 in order to keep up with traffic, looking forward to bringing out the next video!
I enjoy your videos. Used to have a GT a long time ago but I’m a ragtop guy so have a convertible B now. Since I reside in the states, I have a dumb question for you. It’s all metric in the UK but you refer to miles when driving. Are the roads posted in kilometers or miles?
Haha good question! All the road markings are in miles/yards and we buy our milk and beer in pints 😂 but we buy petrol/gas by the litre but refer to miles-per-gallon 😅 it’s a confusing mixture! I think although we’ve broadly adopted the metric system not everything was officially metricated so speedo is in mph and we weigh ourselves in stones/pounds 🤣 thanks for the comment!
Yes, if you squint a bit, look at the car in the reflection of a spoon and on a darkened night it’s almost similar 🤣 I know what you mean though! It has been called a ‘mini-DB4’ in some classic car magazines I’ve read (in both the styling and the interior feel) but it’s a far cry from the real thing 😢 Still, I think it looked pretty good against the backdrop of the Highlands, thanks very much for the comment!
