MGB GT - From C to Skye - Day 4
The trip is almost at an end! Day 4 of my adventure to the Isle of Skye and Scottish Highlands in my MGB GT comes to a close with the car doing nearly 1500 miles in 4 days! In this video I cover a bit of the trip back (although much shortened due to the monotony of the motorway) and also a summary of my time away to try and offer any advice to folks wishing to do similar! I sincerely hope you enjoyed this video series, I had a great time filming it and I can't wait to share future adventures with you all!

I'm taking the MGB GT on a trip! From 'C' aka Chipstead where I live in Surrey to the Isle of Skye in Scotland. This will easily be the longest trip the MG has undertaken in my ownership and as such I have a few things to do in order to prepare for it which is the purpose of this video..... it currently doesn't start! Stick around to the end for a teaser of the upcoming adventure!
Bullit Bluroc 125 - Moto Camping with a 125

Being inspired by several adventurous motorcyclists I decide to try out moto camping on my little Bullit Bluroc 125 as a bit of an experiment! Ten times less capacity than a BMW GS but 10x less fun? Maybe :-) In this video I take a longer ride around the Surrey Hills on my 125 loaded up with camping gear before heading to camp (in my back garden), filmed at the end of last summer with better we...

Uh-oh, mid-life crisis alert! Lotus Esprit S2 - Chassis Walkaround

A long overdue look at my Lotus Esprit S2 chassis after I've lifted the body off. It doesn't look to be in too bad condition in terms of any actual damage to it but there is a lot of surface rust, hopefully that's all it is but once I have it stripped back and blasted the full extent of the rust I'm sure will reveal itself!

    Hello, I've been watching your video with great interest. What drone model did you use and how did you fly it while driving the car? Thanks.

    • @granblogismo
      @granblogismo День тому

      Hi! Thanks for watching the video! The drone is an older DJI Mavic Air, it’s sophisticated enough to track objects and fly autonomously (still need to keep it in view from a safety point of view) but small enough to want to take it with you on trips, the equivalent today would be the DJI Mini drone as the Air models have got a bit bigger and expensive, hope that helps?

    Another place to check is the bonnet vent inlet lower rainwater outlet known as 'toms knob' it eventually goes hard and is bst checked by inserting a screwdriver up outlet twisting around generally allows road dust to fall out pour water into the vent to check its all good great video regards fom New Zealand

    Good video. I did these same Adamesh upgrades on a 4L and 4.2L XKR; the 4.2L had extra mods to bypass the main silencer which has dramatic results. I made a video of the standard 4L fitment a few years before your video, can be seen here: ua-cam.com/video/0_7BzAspUAE/v-deo.html BTW I didn't need to shorten or bend the pipes. Sounds exactly as yours.

    I've just bought a 1966 MGB GT MKI, same exterior and interior colors, in similar condition. What level of restoration have you carried out? Did you have to change any body parts? Was the rust more extensive than you could see? How long did your restoration take? Did you have it done at a body shop? By the way, thanks for your videos, which give a lot of interesting information.

    Good looking bike. I run Polish version of it made in China for ROMET (old Polish motorbike, bike company). Over here is called SCMB 125 (as they add some scrambler'ish look to it). I did over 1000km and it drives. I spotted that swapping to 10W50 (Penrite MC4ST in my case) after 500km made it run smoother and the sh*tbox, I mean gearbox runs a little bit better. Rear suspension is... , lets say that there is a rear suspension. The main difference I cans spot is that in my SCMB the bike has full frame. What RMP do You have at 90km/h (56mph)? Have fun wit it.

    500 miles is not enough to get the engine running smoothly, the manual recommends 3/4 throttle max until about 900 miles. Also, if you are skilled enough you can own the road regardless of power, it is the inexperienced riders that will flutter in these situations and you are at a beginner level therefore you will not be riding this bike or any bike better. I own the spirit 125 and quite easily run the bike up to 70mph in normal conditions, however as with any smaller capacity bikes they are not going to maintain constant speed in headwinds or hills, once you have come to terms with these limitations you will learn to adjust your riding to match the demands of the road. I recommend also getting the bike professionally serviced to check over all of the bolts/fittings etc especially at this early stage when the bike will be rattling about. I also read that a change of silencer can improve things because the stock is not fully sealed, I've not tried this myself yet but i can definitely see how this would help.

    • @granblogismo
      @granblogismo Місяць тому

      Hi, thanks for the comment, yes definitely a novice rider so keeping the momentum going is something I’m sure will come with experience! The 500 miles is in my ownership so the bike was showing around 1100 miles at the time this was filmed, since then (another 700 miles) no issues with bike cutting out and all bolts are tight after checking that a few times! Really enjoying it but still only getting 60-65mph tops, I think one big improvement could be tyres, the Spirit has normal road tyres whereas this has knobbly ones which I’m sure won’t help performance! I’ve since passed my big bike test so whether this stays is in debate but nice bike for the money for sure 👌

    Even allowing for the fact that this is now a few years ago, I probably wouldn’t be able to get a wheel arch replaced for what you’ve paid to get all that work done. Chips Away quoted £960 to fix a 3 x 4mm stone chip on the very edge of my passenger door!

    Thank you for this video [and thank you UA-cam for the algorithm recommendation!!!] I want a mgb gt, as a 2002 mx5 nbfl 1.8vvt owner on the cusp of being ulez compliant and working in london, i would love an mgb, i fear but am also excited to have to own so many tools and learning to work on classics. Idk where im going with this lol... I want an mgb, and i want to do trips across the uk and even europe with it, maybe ill give it a go with the mx5 first (i have been camping to the peak district last year in it but failed due to a storm in the summer ruining my hiking plans) seeing this video as well as a conversation with an owner of a triumph spitfire at my work in london i had today has really motivating me to go ahead and go for it. Im the coming months ill be selling my first car (kia picanto with a broken gearbox) and saving my way up to getting a mgb!!

    I just took mine out. Your video helped a lot. I have no idea how you managed to do it without taking the seats out. I took both seats out and it still was a bit of a wrestle. I got lucky though. I found a very faded sticker inside that just about reads Oatmeal as the colour. I would have probably ordered a grey one had I not found the sticker.

    I know you made this vid 4 years or so ago - in regard to the rear end (and the rear bumper) on your MG, it is missing the 'quarter' plates at each end of the bumper where it meets rear bodywork under the lights. Yours has a 'triangular' gap into the void where these plates would have gone. Which may have credence to rear end damage you mention, as many period body shops would not have bothered to replace them as they'd have seen them as a minor incidental piece of trim 'out of sight out of mid' so to speak.
