Wei - Taipei | Home Coffee Brewing with April #23

- This week, we’re bringing you the latest video from a series that we call Home Coffee Brewing with April. This time around, we’re joining Wei in his house in Taiwan.
We believe that innovation in coffee brewing starts at home, and that some of the most special and meaningful interactions with coffee can take place within your own kitchen.
As we are frequently travelling visiting our international partners, we decided to introduce this format as a way to interact with you on a different level whilst maintaining the frequency of our videos.
In this video, Wei shares his camping coffee approach whilst we discuss the advantages of keeping things simple sometimes. Wei brews a Washed Processed Ethiopian coffee, using an April Plastic Brewer, a Thomson pouring kettle, an Electrolux blade grinder and most notably, no scale.

I bought the same coffee last year at Costco! It should have citrus and floral notes which is pretty good!
That's interesting. We also thought it was surprisingly good. The reality is that it was a Grade 1 which would be the same grade that small specialty coffee roasters around the world would use.
A lovely video. Sometimes good enough is good enough, especially when we're camping.
Thank you for watching Dylan. True that, the scenario should fit the cup quality.
when you are in the rabbit hole of perfecting your brewing, it is always very nice to come across a video like this. at the end of the day, a cup of coffee should make you happy, and it is as simple as this. freshly ground coffee, just an okay result, and sharing with the beloved ones.
Thank you for watching. That is true. Coffee is a lot of things for a lot of different people. Some are early in their journey and some are "deeper in the rabbit hole" and there is always something to learn.
❤
It is indeed surprising to watch someone brewing Costco coffee since they usually roast way too dark and yield very bad oily beans, and I wouldn't do a pour over with those beans ever but it's a valid choice and definitely a twist in the series, this guy just wings everything and enjoys it still, so in the end that's what matters.
We were a bit surprised as well. But this series is all about celebrating different perspectives. And we don't actually know what setup or coffee the home brewer will be using before we are inside.
Nice brew Wei🎉
For sure!
I love this series, its ‘comfy content’ for coffee aficianados. I also love that this channel makes the videos they want to make, rather than follow that which just gets the most views (e.g. yet more equipment reviews). Patrick is a great host and despite having had some of the best coffees in the world, is understanding and accepting of different brews and setups.
Thank you for watching and your kind words. What would you like to see in future videos?
@@coffeewithapril I would love to see more content at origin, particularly highlighting farmers' and producers' perspectives. I enjoyed the videos from Kenya about trends and brewing there.
@@animeanytime we have more of that coming.

This was the first of your home coffee series that I have seen and I was captivated at first because I actually have that same Costco coffee. I brew it when I want a coffee, but I am not actually going to be able to sit and get the most out of a more expensive coffee. At about $16 for 2 lbs it’s a pretty good deal and I can test out different brewing recipes without feeling bad about wasting coffee. Even though the rest of the video was pretty dull I was entertained with your effort to be positive throughout the video. Thanks for the video ☕️
Thank you for watching and sharing. Value for money is a solid way to put it.
Being able to buy "specialty grade" coffee at your local supermarket should be more of a thing, if our goal is to get more people to drink good coffee. Convenience will always be king and being able to make the experience easier for people is a good thing.
That's true. And the reality is that the green coffee used in this case is the same grade as most small Specialty Coffee roasters around the world would use. What kind of coffee do you brew yourself?
Cosco coffee????? Next video using Mocamaster with dark Starbucks beans lol
Thank you for watching. We are always open to a wide range of the coffees in these videos. It's all about the home brewer being able to share what they drink on a daily basis.
What coffee are you usually drinking at home?
For pourover I exclusively use flat brewers with mostly light roasted beans and sometimes Omni roasts. For the grinder I found the commandante on 22 and 23 clicks works perfect it gives very balanced cup with no stringent aftertaste using the 5 pour method and 1:16 ratio 16 grams. I only buy beans from the best international roaster like Onyx, Gardelli, Tim, April, Sey, Kurasu, Lilo, Pirates of Coffee, and many others. Local specialty roasters where I'm from tend to "Bake" the beans none of them do light which I don't like at all.
@@Kiba_Fox thank you for sharing.
