- This week, we’re bringing you the latest video from a series that we call Home Coffee Brewing with April. This time around, we’re joining Angelina in Taipei, Taiwan.
We believe that innovation in coffee brewing starts at home, and that some of the most special and meaningful interactions with coffee can take place within your own kitchen.
As we are travelling frequently travelling visiting our international partners, we decided to introduce this format as a way to interact with you on a different level whilst maintaining the frequency of our videos.
In this video, Angelina uses an April Glass Brewer to brew a washed Colombian Gesha from the La Loma farm in Pitalito, Huila. She shows us her approach to brewing small volumes of coffee, 10g to 170g, whilst utilising a Comandante grinder, a Fellow Electric kettle and some some tools for agitation and ground dispersion.
It is clear from the sheer quantity of coffee and gear in her apartment that Angelina is a very dedicated coffee enthusiast. We hope you enjoy her brewing approach.

So cool to see these home brewers open their personal spaces up. I think you do a good job at asking enough questions to keep the viewer interested, get some reference points and hopefully gets the host more comfortable. I always like seeing their personalities more than the coffee or even method so good series ideation.
Thank you for watching Mikey, that's a really nice insight. We will keep it up. Any tips on how we can make it better?
😊
❤❤❤❤
Oh my... that coffee collection is massive! It would last me years 🤣
Thank you for tuning in. Indeed, we haven't seen anything like it in this series before. How much coffee do you usually keep at home at the same time?
@@coffeewithapril oh well I'm a "light drinker" so I go through a bag each month, month and a half 😊
And we all know the next chapter is espresso at the same home.
Not sure they have the space! But yeah, absolutely. Hopefully, we can come back and do a feature with them when that happens. Do you brew espresso at home?
@@coffeewithapril yessss
Been loving this series lately! It's so refreshing to see every little quirk each home brewer has in their brewing style
Thank you for tuning in. Any tips on how we can improve?
I found them Kalita paper filters to choke so frequently, it ends up being a waste of coffee. Unfortunately it's pretty difficult to source April paper filters in Australia.
We do ship worldwide. But if you can't get ours we recommend looking at the Sibarist or Fellow filters.
Wet WDT is great for pushing extraction I find.
Thank you for watching. Interesting, tell us more. How would you recommend using it?
@@coffeewithapril What I usually do with the wdt tool is I rotate it in the center of the powder layer to make a little pit in the center at the cost of more steaming water,I think it makes sweeter❤
@@doogiri thank you for sharing.
After watch this video, ive always brew 10g of coffee.. and it work best for me. It cost less, and my satisfaction drops when i drink too much (larger dose) coffee
Thank you for watching. We are glad that our series have inspired you for better and smarter coffee at home.
ive been kindof trying to start a copenhagen based cupping club, for both traditional cupping and experimental cupping (like cupping different brewers and other tools or methods, homeroasts and stuff like that) justhavent been able to finde a place to do it. i would defenently atted if you arranged somthing similair, :D
Thank you for watching Peter. It's not in the plans at the moment. But we hope our home brewing videos can be a good way to connect with home coffee brewers around the world.
They definenty is a inspiration. I made some tools myself to my own aproch that i haven't seen yet 😁
If you ever feel like Hosting armatures cupping im shure it would be populair !
Wow! With so many different coffees to try, that 10g dose makes more sense now!
Thank you for watching. Yeah, that's true. That being said it also helps you extract coffee more uniform. We find that it often gives a higher flavour quality than the alternatives. Have you tried brewing with lower doses before?
@@coffeewithapril I have, but generally only out of necessity if I don’t have enough coffee left for my preferred larger cup (21g/350ml) but with the April brewer I do 12/200 and maybe as low as 10g before? When I was trying to get more brews out of the KaffeBox advent tubes over the holidays.
@@BoneOrchard what do you think is the biggest difference in terms of taste from a smaller and larger dose (same ratio)?
@@coffeewithapril honestly I couldn’t say because I typically do my larger dose in the V60 and smaller in the April. So I wouldn’t be able to pinpoint difference between dose size due to the much larger (I feel) differences presented just from the brewer styles.
@@BoneOrchard thank you for sharing.
I love this series Patrik. Great video.
Thank you for watching. What would you like to see more of?
Wow! Very nice coffee and coffee brewing equipment!
Thank you for watching. She sure has a wide range of both equipment and roasted coffee beans. Did you see anything you tried before?
@@coffeewithapril Indeed! I have tried Sey Washed Ethiopian before! Interesting that she does not go by time but by pour drain which to me give great results as well
@@coffeewithapril PS: Great to see you at LA April Brewers Cup and Very happy for the success of bringing more specialty coffee exposure to people around the world!
@@NexusS4GIceJelly thank you for coming!
Thanks, Patrick for this great series. I have a few grams of Kebele Koke (Woreda Yirgacheffe) Ethiopian with carbonic maceration process, roasted by Mabo roastery in Romania. I was impressed by Angelina's creativity and brewed that coffee with the same ratio and recipe. 10g, 170 ml, 40g for blooming, another 2 pours, and had a very sweet cup. Amazing job 🙏
Thank you for watching. Great to hear that the recipes worked out for you. Is it very different from how you usually brew?
I brew 10g with 200g of water, 2 times 100g pours, with the april brewer. for me i can taste the flavours much more nuanced. and the brew is in general lighter. you should try it, patrick!
Thank you for watching and sharing your brewing approach. 10/200 sure makes it possible for a higher extraction which can be favorable depending on the coffee. Do you use this approach on all kind of coffee?
❤❤❤
Thank you for watching. Any recommendations on where to go next?
such strange brewing techniques - old af beans, shallow af bed, brushing fines into the brewer, high extraction w/old beans
It taste great. Would you be up for testing it?
