John The Germans forgot to tell you that pruning shears sharpen with a wet stone. They learned this method from the Poles, but they probably didn't remember everything. I'm writing this as the Pole with German, French and Czech roots, so I don't mean anything bad. Just wet stone with water and the effects will be spectacular. Best regards.

I’m all for that trick of the trade you can’t mention. Spot on and works! I use a small amount (of something) with a brush in a very timely manner, right on the cut. To me, it’s highly proper. Protect yourself and it’s no harm no foul.

Probably if the ash tree suckers are removed more often the tree will eventually die. Also, I was told that if you pull them off when young (easier) then the wound is different and it will take much longer to resprout.
Often instead of raking an area I’ll just toss enough wood chips on top (but not if the prunings can root!)
I LOVE every video you ever made, this one included! 💚 Best wishes for a fantastic growing season and beyond.

Loved the comment about not having to prune roses. I am running an experiment with some I moved last year to see how they develop when not pruned as they are in a spot where they will not bother anybody.

Neat sidetrack bamboo runner digout. Almost makes me glad it is too cold for bamboo in my climate, as we are most envious of plants we cannot grow. And all of us have that evil gardener angel on our shoulder whispering woes to certain plants to simply give you a more easier time of it.

I do wonder sometimes if a tiny dab of herbicide isn't more effective and less destructive than digging up entire plots to exterminate invasive species. I'll admit I prefer stump painting to root removal. Keeps the soil structure intact.
