I don't have a problem with Huyang saying "A Long Time Ago in a galaxy far far away." To me it's fitting, and if anyone were to say it, it would properly be Huyang who witnessed all of the history of the Jedi and will be the eventual repository of all the stories, should he survive, including the one in which they are currently. It could have been Huyang being the narrator for all of the Star Wars stories, had their been a narrator (whose point of view was at one point originally supposed to be R2-D2 according to George Lucas, if I'm remembering correctly? Correct me if I'm wrong.). It's also like a story within a story. I love that homage Star Wars' beginning and to George Lucas. And it struck a note of familiarity to all of us fans.
I agree, Yes, it was little on the nose, but the way that Huyang said it seemed perfect.
Looking at the bigger picture, it's feasible that the Star Wars Galaxy didn't believe in The Force before the Rakatan Empire or the Dawn of the Jedi.
My crazy speculation is building over time that Baylan is sensing Ezra. Ezra destroys a couple of the witch ghosts on Dathomir in Rebels and saves Sabine and Kanan from being possessed by them. I don't think he intended to eradicate them, but they sense he has that power. The witches fear him. Thrawn fears him. Thrawn can't predict the Jedi.
"The enemy of our enemy is our friend, for now," foreshadows Baylan and Shin influencing the nomads to join them to track down Ezra, but they find Ezra, and Baylan senses his power to charm animals and that he doesn't fear the witches or Thrawn. Ezra also has his connection with the World Between Worlds, which is the conduit Baylan desires to explore to end the cycle. Ahsoka has been imbalanced lately. He may have been thrown off from her light.
Elephants bring the bones of their dead to burial grounds. They would come and go and maybe even visit to mourn their dead. Maybe the Purrgil are cursing the witches of Peridea by making their burial ground their home planet.
Get well soon Commander Smets May The Force Be With You.
I loved the “long time ago”reference, did not seem forced, worked within the story perfectly
It did not seem "forced"? 😅
Thrawn didn't find Ezra maybe because the planet is so dangerous that he is not willing risk loosing more troopers.
With the Ezra-Hera reunion: I can't wait to see Ezra meet Jacen. He's not even aware that Kanan and Hera had a son. That's gonna hit right in the feelings.
John and Laura, you guys are great!!! Far, Far Away was told by Dave 1 year ago when asked when we'd see Ezra, he said Far, Far Away. I really hiope they finally retcong the sequels because they werr so disjointed. Rian (Ruin) Johnson divided the fan base. I love the Ahsoka episodes 10/10,
Ezra definitely had a crush on Sabine for a while when they first met. By the end of Rebels, though, they seemed to be more brother & sister. The whole bit of Sabine touching Ezra's cheek with her finger on the mural in both Rebels and Ahsoka can be read a few different ways, so I wouldn't be surprised if it turns romantic. But also if it doesn't.
Not my theory but I like it. Aboloth (AKA the mother, darkness incarnate) is the one calling Baylan. Also the glyphs on the temple are Zefo from Jedi Survivor game
Ezra was born ON "Empire Day" itself. This makes him 1-5/6 days older than Leia and Luke. At the time of the Ahsoka show, he is between 28 and 30 years old depending on how much time passes between SW4:aNH and SW6:RotJ
Yes, he was 19 at the end of Rebels, and this is supposedly taking place in 9ABY. He should be 28 now. (The Original Trilogy takes place over 4 years, 3 years between ANH and TESB and 1 year between TESB and ROTJ.) I think Sabine is a couple of years older than Ezra, so she should be 30.
In Rebels when training the Dark sabre Esra & Sabine their feelings were developing when they were younger.
Thrawn knowing about Ahsoka'a Master means nothing now that she and her Master have come to terms.
PS- I think Enoch's purpose in that moment of giving Sabine her weapon's really is to deliver some lines for the audience's benefit to let us know of the dangerous wandering nomads, to heighten the stakes... and yes, to inform Sabine of course. I think Enoch, as Thrawn's right hand man, is not necessarily privy to Thrawn's ultimate design for Sabine in that moment. Thrawn gave her a pass, so he was not going to question it, and gave her a somewhat friendly warning, like any other warrior to warrior. So I agree with you, John. Maybe it's honor amongst warriors.
I dig that honor amongst Warriors thing. It's definitely carried over to sports as well and is very relatable. So so many nuances in this show. It's beautiful IMO.
I think it could have been cool, with the Sabine vs. Cowardly Howler interaction if it went down this way: She curses him out and blows him off. Homey slinks off screen right while Sabine goes off screen left. For a long sec, we get neither of them. Then we get the Howler reentering the from screen left, pursuing her like the needy doggy he is.
Okay. :) It was cute.
But what if, when he comes back in from screen left, he has Ezra on his back?
Sabine can't die, because she is Ahsoka's connection to the Mandoverse. Filoni verse is all about the Mandalorians.
The Book of Boba Fett is just a chapter in the Madalorian and Ahsoka is also another chapter of the Madalorian.
Sabine is not Ahsoka's connection to the Mandoverse! Ahsoka by her very history during the Clone Wars is fundamental to Mandalore's history several times over. She was already an old ally of Bo Katan and Satine. She interacted with Grogu and Din before this show started. If anything, it's the other way around, Sabine is connected to the Mandoverse through Ahsoka, even that is debatable because she is also an old ally of Bo.
"Peridia: A land of dreams, madness, and children's stories, come to life." and then listen to the howling insanity of Thrawn's entrance music. Peridia is Lovecraftian; it's Poe doing "Fall of the House of Usher." This shit is soooo cool. It's like nothing Star Wars has ever shown up before on the "live screen." The closest we get is Malachor and when Yogurt goes to Moraband.
As Richa was talking about how in the episode Thrawn cocks his head and leans in, I thought "So Live-Action Thrawn is more animated than Animated Thrawn"
Thank you, Rocha, for inspiring that thought; it made me laugh
Love your take on things. Watching since your collider days. I miss those days. Lol. Keep up the great break downs.
Glad to hear Laura say she liked The Sabine-Ezra Réunion scene. A number of people have said they didn't like it. Everyone is entitled to their opinion, but I loved it, and glad to hear someone felt the same.
Exactly, people have even called it cold. I can't understand how someone might think that their reunion was cold
I liked the scene too. Not everything needs to be some crazy journey. The hard part of that reunion is yet to come in my book. She's going to have to tell him what she did. And when she does I don't think Ezra will be angry at all. He'll be focused assuming that she doesn't wait too long to tell him. THAT'S my worry. That he gets caught off guard by Baylan and Shin. Although I believe that there's part of Shin who is more interested in learning about them than killing them. No matter what Baylan tells her I think she sees fellow force users and wants to connect. I can't wait to see what Dave has come up with. He's taken such care that I think we're in for some fun. It's really nice to see.
@onebadfishy I agree about the Ezra won't be angry thing. I keep thinking back to what kanan said to her about her choice of what to do with the darksaber. " This family will stand by you no matter what you choose. ". I think it'll just be a call to action for him. He did what he needed to do to stop Thrawn once and together they'll just have to find a way to stop him again with the added bonus that unbeknownst to them Ahsoka is on her way to help
@@sakisaotome6753 Yeah. They're a family. Sometimes part of that family aren't going to be aligned to what you believe. You all just need to pick each other up and find a way through. I think Sabine was desperate and needed someone to help her even if it was dangerous. She believes in Ezra. It may be a little much and maybe she values herself too little. She doesn't necessarily understand who she has the potential of being and continues to punish herself much like Ahsoka has been doing for a while. We should remember that Ahsoka isn't family. She really is just an outsider to to this team. She has kept her distance and has allowed fear to taint her. She had her moments with Anakin. If that doesn't mean anything then they're all lost. It's really all on Ahsoka. She'll have to be the Jedi she needs to be.
What I appreciated in this episode is that the story convinced me that the map orb was was less of a nonsense macguffin (see dagger a la RoS) but rather a real meaningful relic developed by the Night Sisters' to aid in their navigation from Peridia to the SW galaxy. They clearly did some witchy stuff to the pergils to gain that information...maybe the pergils dont go there to die but the night sisters kill them in the extraction process. Can get a bit dark. Hopefully they keep leaning into it
Also, my take is Enoch's interaction gives non Rebels audience a bit more perspective on Thrawns code to give a suggestion as to why Ezra is still alive.
The line from Huge Wang fits for me because the origins of the force isn’t contained to the core galaxy
Huh I loved the far far away line 😊
Enoch was just following orders from Thrawn, giving Sabine's weapons back.....how else is she supposed to kill Shin or Baylan...its all part of the plan. Like the line from Godzilla Vs. Kong....LET THEM FIGHT!!!
Yep without a doubt, that scene of Thrawn's arrival is a top moment in Star Wars scenes.
There has been some discussion about Lars Mikkelsen being too old for his role and looking a bit fat, but truth of the matter is that he is 59, while Thrawn would be in his mid-late 60's at this point in the time-line, so if anything, it looked like they have aged Mikkelsen (and his uniform) to make him look a bit older and less fit than he really is ( if you look at recent pictures of Mikkelsen). Not to forget that this role is all about the voice and acting, and not about physical strength.
Ezra was wearing a metal jacket of Storm Troupers dog tags. Thrawn didn't have any problem in finding Ezra, he just got tired of losing his troupers.
Maybe the graveyard foreshadowing is that we were about to see a bunch of (un)dead Night Troopers. Maybe just setting the creepy mood. Maybe it'll be a Crabman genocide! Maybe a whale will spit out Zeb who didn"t realize he needed to be in a ship to survive! All good fun choices!
Thrawn goal probably knew someone would come for Ezra also most predators like Thrawn want Ezra to think no matter where he goes he'll be hunted down. Also Thrawn would be bored if he killed his prey Ezra so early knowing after he still can't find away to get off this planet
This last episode may have even been my fav out of all of them! Had so many old school LUcasfilm feels.
After watching it multiple times thrawn having a dad bod threw me off and ezra and sabine should shack up so that rey will have either a student or teacher maybe even a rival. All in all a great episode...
Die well is an ancient quote from Epicurus, later use on warriors community
Laura said that Enoch is Marrok, so that means Enoch is Starkiller, confirmed!
Ouch. "Someone is not going home"... I've feared that maybe something bad could happen to Ezra. It would break Sabine. Shin is already conflicted. What would it do to both of them? There's a lot of potential for danger. Unlike "The Rise of Skywalker" I'm very very unsettled. I love this show. It's really engaged me and has made me love Star Wars in ways I've never thought of. It's fun and it's nice to be a fan right now.
17:08 I agree, Asajj Ventress is one of the most nuanced and well rounded characters in SW animation and live-action. It's a shame The Clone Wars was canceled when it was otherwise "Dark Disciple" would have been TCW episodes instead of a YA book.
Ahsoka isn’t perfect now. She resolved her issues with Anikin but still needs an explanation from Sabine. After all unwillingness to let your loved ones go is very familiar and scary to Ahsoka
I'm with the Night Sisters in that. 🤣😂. the Jedi do stink rightious and entitled; shady AF. I woud probably leave the Jedi order if I were ever recruited or worse, kidnapped into it as an infant.
"We got Ezra and Thrawn way earlier than anyone expected." Mehhhh. kinda, maybe? I dunno. I wasn't surprised at all. The reason I wasn't was because of where the actors names came in the end credits. If they didn't show up until the last 20 minutes of the last episode, or something like that, their names wouldn't have been where they were. :)
They used the weird 'smell of Jedi' bit to remove Sabine from the platform so Thrawn wouldn't see her when he came out. This allows for the reveal they had her there and he can say that 'name sounds familiar'.
14:20 I could not disagree more! And most people I've seen react to it has liked it.
Right. Even if it didn’t work for you, describing it as “tacky” is very extra.
I get the feeling there was a sort of detente between Ezra and Thrawn.
Heir to the Empire trilogy characters i singer if we’ll see in the future: Talon Kardde, Borsk Feylay ( sp?) Garm Bel Iblis
Laura giving off some Shin Hati vibes.... 💜
Calling him General Baylan Skoll (and the General Kenobi from A New Hope) was a little bit devalued for me by the prequels when we found out that all Jedi Knights and Masters held the rank of General in the Clone Wars.
Thrawn had a great entrance in this episode. I didn't feel he was very intimidating in Rebels but much more here in live action. The Sabine/Ezra reunion could use more emotion from both actors though IMO.
The history of the Galaxy part 1 is probably about the “beginning”. Baylon & Ahsoka have both referenced these tales & I’d image the story he’s starting is pertinent to their destination. So the line felt earned to me & not just a line
Nice review/reaction... My question would be if anyone wants more Ahsoka development or if the rest of the focus should be on Thrawn, Ezra, Sabine and the other supporting characters?
28:20 etc. Chimera is Kitsugi like her personel is. :) I went back to review the final episode of Rebels for reference. Much of the damage she's sustained to the sides of her midships and forward areas behind her bow could be explained by contemptuous abuse by the squad of Purgil that coercively towed her through hyperspace to Peridia. What they missed was the extensive damage to her citadel/superstructure at Lothal. She should have had significant portions of her built up parts sitting on her dorsal aft section (y'all know, the bridge parts) all covered in "gold" as well because those parts got messed up pretty bad at Lothal.
Grandpa Blueface can tell Morgan Elsbeth to destroy Purgils with great prejudice all he wants but he'll get nothing. Eye of Scion may be THE fastest starship EVER built within the GFFA (makes the Millenium Falcon look like a kid's tricycle) but she's a relatively fragile hyperspace ring made large enough to boost Chimera back to the GFFA. It exists to do that one thing. It is not a warship. We've already seen what the big momma purgils can do to Imperial capital ships when they lower their foreheads and ram. WTF does this military genius sociopath think Lady Elsbeth is going to do? What can she do? Nothing. A big fat effing nothing. Even small baby Purgils would shatter Eye of Scion's hull integrity. She's NOT a sturdy ship.
Oh man....Chimera and her tenant commands are Kintsugi and falling apart the seams. Their illustrious psycho-genius leader has physically gone to seed. They REALLY REALLY need to get back to some kinda civilized area/sector with highly developed supply chains and industry and all that. They are literally falling apart and held together by bubble gum and duct tape. It's no wonder whatsoever that dude can put aside any and all grudges and emotional crap, and really, everything else with the sole goal of just getting back to a place where he has a chance of not standing on the bridge of that former battleship ragamuffin junker he's rolling in when her engines and AG finally give out and she just settles down onto the surface of Perrida and becomes yet another rotting corpse on a planet of spooky dead memories.
52:30 Yes, yes! Absolutely desperate, but far to sociopathic and emotionally crippled to show it. Dude is in a really bad place, he's extremely aware of it.
The Ugly Sisters were alluding to Ahsoka regarding smelling Jedi
“IT” gave my silence of the lams vibes. IT rubs the lotion on it’s skin…
Maybe if the night troopers started wearing the rebel starbird they might have found him
1) Kevin, get well soon.... we want your take on Star Wars Ahsoka!
2) I'm predicting an Ezra, Sabine and Shin love triangle. If we are going to ship anyone, might as well follow the original Star Wars model (Luke, Leia and Han).
3) Ezra gives me biblical Moses vibes for some reason. Now with the beard, he reminds me of Charlton Heston's portrayal in The Ten Commandments. Intriguing.
Shin and Sabine don't show any signs of love. Only a rivalry and who each other are in the force. Their roles and purpose in the force.
Shin might be looking at Sabine as something she failed to defeat or put fear into. Shin as she is showing has doubts. That's what you're seeing. Doubt and Disappointment. The kind of look I give to you and your kind.
Could be Shin just see Sabine as another kind of witch. I mean Sabine did survive a life threatening wound. That is definitely witchcraft! @@ivanidlehand9651
It is F'd up that Thrawn is an alien with an alien body and we have to put Human crappy ideas on to him. This could be how his species look like at a certain age, or this is the idea body type for him. or his stomach is empty (no food) his stomach is full of air
I always thought Ezra had more of a crush on the hot girl than it was mutual. I like the idea of them getting together but definitely don't need it.
Enoch, the Biblical Character, never actually died...he was taken alive to heaven by God. He was given eternal life as a servant of God. I have a feeling that Enoch is also a "undead" character, and maybe he feels the weight of being undead...so he wishes Sabine a proper death, a final ending...with no magic to bring her back. Maybe all this will lead to Darth Plagueis?
The Good:
- We went to a new galaxy
- Huyang's line, " A long, long time ago. In a galaxy far, far away ". It gave me chills. And I didn't mind it at all because they were going to a new galaxy and it's very possible that line could've come from in-universe all along.
- The head Night Sister was Claudia Black of Farscape (a classic and one of my all-time favorite sci-fi shows)
- We saw Thrawn
- We saw Ezra
- Thrawn's army is the most captivating and threatening Stormtroopers I've ever seen. I think some if not all of them are zombies. Their armor has been crushed and restored with gold. Most likely due to a catastrophic crash so they must've been reanimated with Night Sister magic.
- Baylan and Shin continue to be intriguing characters. Love Ray's performance. If Filoni needs his character to continue, recasting him with Gerald Butler would be a great move. He has the same intensity, weight, and aura that Baylan needs. And always wanted to see Butler in SW anyway.
The Bad:
- The intro to the new galaxy took place on a barren boring wasteland of a planet. Instead of a sprawling, bustling civilization with new tech, culture, architecture, etc., we've never seen in SW before. A huge missed opportunity that will hopefully be remedied with exploration of the more industrialized parts of this or other planets in the new galaxy.
- Thrawn's Destroyer backdrop during his intro and for most of his scenes was really bad greenscreen or Volume. It reminded me of the large obvious matte painting of the Millennium Falcon behind Lando in the scene with his "Would you get going you pirate? " line to Solo in ROTJ
- Thrawn had a dad bod that was comical to look at. Undermining his intimidating look otherwise.
- The actor who played Ezra's delivery seemed a bit stiff and wooden on first viewing
- The reunion with Sabine and Ezra was overly casual and unnaturally unemotional. Anyone who first saw someone after a decade (?) of not even knowing if they're still alive would be an emotional wreck. Not nearly as casual as Sabine and Ezra were. There wasn't a single tear shed!
And it doesn't matter if they were soldiers or not. Nothing about that first interaction that's been built up for so long rang true. How do you think war buddies who haven't seen each other in a decade and don't even know if the other is still alive would react when finally finding/seeing one another again?
This was uninspired writing and a missed opportunity for something that should've been a much more realistic, cathartic, climatic, outpouring of emotion.
- Sabine's dismissiveness in not answering when Ezra asks her how she got to him doesn't make any sense. Especially because the people who got her there may pose an imminent threat to them both. And she believes them to be their only way home (as she has no idea Ahsoka's even alive let alone coming to get her). Both are crucially important to communicate to Ezra immediately.
That the head sister was Claudia Black is awesome! Thanks for nothing that! :)
@@markkuykendall5475 No problem. As a big fan of Farscape, I recognized her right away even through the makeup. Didn't even have to wait for the credits. Glad to see her back and in the SW universe no less.
They might have felt the Bendu?
Die well is because hhe has high regards for life.
Thrawn was badass man
Sabine not telling Ezra the truth was idiotic and stupid of her.
Sabine in this episode was a crybaby and the worst part of the episode.
Rocha! I've filled your comments sections with multiple posts. This was a mistake and I apologize. I won't do it this way next time. I'll just do a running thread, instead. with a single post and bunch of replies. My bad, sir. My mistake. Anyway: You're talking at 46:40 about how Thrawn couldn't find Ezra and how that was kinda dumb. Dude's intel that he gave to Sabine, pretty much lead stragiht to Ezra. AND the Noti move around a lot....but the intel was still good. C'mon mannnn....old man blue face knew all about Ezra, he spent long years knowing all about Ezra.....y'know, and drinking a lot of beer and eating a lot of pizza and not doing martial arts anymore which is why he looks the way he does. :)
People are never, ever satisfied ..😅
Good show John & Laura. Ezra looks like his father from Rebels. I just felt that him and Sabine's reunion was a little bit of a damp squib.
Sabine keeps making bad decisions, her not telling Ezra the truth about how she got there is just another BAD decision she just keeps making. She is too impulsive and stubborn.
I feel Sabine is going to die which will play into Thrawns hands when Ezra goes mental over her death.
Easter egg hunt plot … show full of dialog gaps … wooden acting … after the nostalgia has worn off this show will not age well.
Meh.
