Lyrics:
I had to escape
The city was sticky and cruel
Maybe I should have called you first
But I was dying to get to you
I was dreaming while I drove
The long straight road ahead, uh, huh
Could taste your sweet kisses
Your arms open wide
This fever for you is just burning me up inside
I drove all night to get to you
Is that alright
I drove all night
Crept in your room
Woke you from your sleep
To make love to you
Is that alright
I drove all night
What in this world
Keep us from tearing apart
No matter where I go I hear
The beating of your heart
I think about you
When the night is cold and dark
No one can move me
The way that you do
Nothing erases the feeling between me and you
I drove all night to get to you
Is that alright
I drove all night
Crept in your room
Woke you from your sleep
To make love to you
Is that alright
I drove all night
Could taste your sweet kisses
Your arms open wide
This fever for you is just burning me up inside
I drove all night to get to you
Is that alright
I drove all night
Crept in your room
Woke you from your sleep
To make love to you
I drove all night
Taste your sweet kisses
Your arms open wide
This fever for you is just burning me up inside
I drove all night
It's amazing how she can hold a high note for almost 15 seconds, while adding vibrato and changing the pitch and make it look so effortless.
Agreed, that was amazing. I did some singing in my younger years, no way I could hold a note that long.
So underrated as a singer and performer. She owns this song.
Indeed. She has such a wide range and she transitions so smoothly! And she did it sitting /laying down!
Isso é dom e talento
Yep absolutely phenomenal
.... Mother of God!! What in the hell just fell into my ears?! Look, I'm a musician, I'm very hard to please and very critical. This right here is EPIC!! I've seen the comments and I agree! This woman has lost NOTHING, she hasn't souled out or changed for the worse. This woman is still in her 20s, you can see it, you can Hear it whereas many in her Era simply don't have it anymore. I've always had an appreciation for Cyndi but I had no idea how Great she is. She was cute in the 80s and HOT now, wow. I can't express what I'm thinking, this is the best I can flesh out. I'm blown, thank you Cyndi
Totally agree with you... did you watch this one? ua-cam.com/video/dmKyaxF69MQ/v-deo.html
Uhh, always a keeper, time after time! Her nude raw emotions look beautiful!
"A GEN 2:7 LIVING BEING = ONLY EVERYONE WHO IS WORKING ON THE ONLY ETERNAL SALVATION PLAN, EVER = 2 PETER 3:10 = REV 14:13, "REST FROM THE ONLY ENEMY, EVER, ECCL 4:1-12, AMEN!!!" "ALL OTHERS = ONLY THRICE-PLUS+-DEAD FROM THE WOMB, AS FORMED, OBVIOUSLY" = nearly all, ever, obviously :-( ENJOYING EXISTENCE AKA DEAD-DEAD-DEAD-NESS-ONLY-EVERYWHERE??? WHOA!!!!!!!!!!!!! SICK!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! AS ETERNALLY PROVEN!!!!!!!!!
"Souled out"?
You are insulting Cyndi Lauper by saying she is "still in her 20s." She is in her 60s. Any woman and human being continues (if they choose) to be vibrant, thriving, and full of life in present times or what you may consider later life. Cyndi Lauper has accomplished much more after the door to youth supposedly closed. Many other doors opened that acted as a hall-like conduit to more experiences, emotions, music, causes, love, and life. I hope you will agree that the concept of youth is misconstrued and passion in a song is not relegated only to those who are younger than 30. Hugs and love to you at any age.
You know it’s good when the live version is better then the studio one, which was fantastic.
No, this version was good....not quite as good as the studio version. :)
@@samtaurus007much preferred the depth of her tone on in this version
She can still sing at this point but clearly not been singing much and a little out of practice... she'd be back to perfect again after 3 or 4 more run throughs.
Agree!!!
but not better than the orignal
No auto tune,no tricking no bullshit, just a real singer...
I think this is the best version ever sung by herself. I feel chills when I hear it.
She's actually better than the original. Just outrageous.
@@paulmitchell9975 youre high, its good but not better than Roy
@@DBBMed of course I was high. Why else would I be leaving youtube comments? I was wrong though. Turns out this IS the original. Released three years before Roy's version! I know. I'm as surprised as you and not just because I'm very, very high.
I absolutely love Cyndi singing this gem!! It’s a powerful love song!! Makes me think about being with my future love soon! I’m praying God! Send him soon please 🙏❤️❤️❤️
@@paulmitchell9975 Roy Orbison recorded this song by Steinberg and Kelly in 87 but his death in 88 came before his album was ready.
I love Cyndi's version. She is an amazing artist who has stood the test of time.....
3:01 when she hits that high note….. ! Tears. Shivers. Outstanding…
Realmente ela é maravilhosa!!!
That's not a high note
🎶❤🔥 It's 2023 and this song still gives me chills!!! Phenominal💕
Celine falls short on her remake...I don't like her anyway.
Absolutely love it!
I disagree her version is electrifying and is still the better version. Incidentally, Roy Orbison sang it originally and he nailed it.@@sonnysoldies5288
Her voice and stage presence is incredible. She survived the industry over the years without being objectified-- she endures by remaining genuinely interesting and talented --in spite of her natural beauty.
She hasn't been objectified because she'd cut the still=beating heart out of anyone that would dare to do that and eat it while they were looking at her... ( - : (I know this because I've seen her in action...)
Goofy, Flippant, and Irreverent. Her beauty stops you in your tracks., then she starts to sing!!!
Totally agree!
and she's not also trying to latch on towards trends in order to remain relevant like madonna. madonna has aged badly. that's why cyndi is always better. i would like to see how a cyndi lauper/kylie minogue dual tour would do though i'm aware kylie is a much bigger star around the world.
I agree a 100%. I'm not even what you would call a fan, but I have nothing but respect for the lady and her abilities. This song blows me away.
The voice control she shows in this song - live no backup - is simply phenomenal. Cyndi has awesome hits yes but her vocals are second to none.
I always liked Cyndi growing up in the 80s but did I underestimate just how phenomenal is her voice. Legend Ms Lauper.
Truly amazing performance. Emotional, precise, powerful. She's a living treasure.
I believe her voice has only gotten better over time. What a voice! Love this song
& i was under the impression voice detoriates with time...i.e. if she''s not lip-synching here
This woman. Good grief! I saw her once live as the opening act for Cher in MSG and frankly, had Cher never even come on stage I would have gotten more than my money’s worth and I LOVE Cher. What an artist and one of the few who is actually better live. No gimmickry, no auto-tuning, no pandering, just enormous and exquisite talent. ❤️uCyn!
Yes I saw her on her first solo tour for She's So Unusual decades ago. I knew that night this lady was no gimmick/one hit wonder. She tore the roof off the place and never broke a sweat!
That must have been amazing @What’s The Frequency! I remember watching that tour televised on HBO, but it must have been incredible to be there. All Through the Night still gives me chills
What is 'MSG'?
@Patsy Stone... ❤️ them both. Check out Cher’s Kennedy Center Honor induction. Cyndi sings a tributes to Cher and they had some totally endearing banter with one another. They are true blue friends.
You got it in one! Talent 101... And she stays dressed... Now that's talent.lol take note 🌟 mm of today.
Everything about this is impeccable! Her stage presence, her vocals, how much confidence you feel in her performance. What a truly outstanding artist & an amazing legacy.
My ABSOLUTE favorite version of this song. What an amazing voice.
No doubt!
A LENDA O MITO O LEGADO A PERSONIFICAÇÃO ARTÍSTICA COMPLETA UNICA INSPIRADORA CINDI LAUPER❤🎉
Yes even better than original roy orbison in my opinion no doubt about it
She is one rare artist. The reason is because most artists lose there range and voice when they get older. Not Cyndi...truly amazing!! With her voice and range it actually has got lot better!
EXACTLY!!!! She is the best!!!
No booze or drugs.
Spot on
Class , wt an artist. She fab
I've loved her from the beginning, even changed my her similar to hers. Shes one individual and still is, beautiful and very intelligent still love you Cyndi Lauper come back to Australia again so I may come and see you again with my friends ❤🌹ya💯

I still don't understand why this woman is so underrated! the video speaks for itself! Talented Gem
She got all the prizes he could / GAT /, but I think she could have gotten a lot more. Incredible talent and individuality.

WOW! Cyndi rocked this home! What a performer, amazing
Much as I love Roy Orbison, Cyndi's cover is truly phenomenal and has been my favourite version since I first heard it.
I like both. Roy was first in 87 and didn't see airplay till92. Gave Cindi time to cash in large.
Love them both equally
Yeah I have a place in my heart for both. Roy's warmth and emotion (and those notes!) give me chills too. Cyndi's is passion and desperation. Love both.
Weirdly I heard the Celine Dion version first and that is the one I still sing in my head. Love each take on it from each artist.
Eu começava a me sentir fazendo parte de algo.

Her vocal control is outstanding...
Perfect pitch and a 3-octave range is a rare gift.

I can't stop watching this clip it gives me goosebumps hearing Cyndi singing this wonderful classic nobody can do this song more justice than she could
.......wow!........no one can compare to her.
They way she holds those long notes it's absolutely incredible
lol i tried to sing along as i was watching this lol scary
.. and she doesn't just hold those long notes, she bends and re-shapes them in wonderful ways!.

This song has become something of a hidden treasure
Chattingesque it was never hidden. People with no sense thought it was a Celine Dion song. She takes all the emotion out of it.

So beautiful.. Cyndi Lauper was my first cassette. Plaid and leather Halloween at 8 I HAD to be her.

It is just the best cover I have ever seen .Roy Orbison can be proud of Cindy who gave all her soul for this great song.Cindy gave so much energy by her physical performance on stage.
AFAIK The song was written for Roy Orbison but Cindy recorded it first. So technically Roy covered it
Yeah, she really sounds like she lives and breathes the song in this performance.
this is no cover of roy orbison , roy orbison wrote thisfor cyndi lauper who produced it first before roy orbison , this is the original version
so true ..., its hard though teaching people almost pointless @@memovilmx6239

Cyndi is the Queen!!
Cyndi's amazing version. Her vocal technique is Incommensurable, from another planet !!
This song reminds me of my young days when I was driving at night coming back from the discotheques

even her hair style and costums are perfect
I love you, Cyndi Lauper! You introduced and mesmerized me with this amazing song on your LP in the late 80s. This live version gives it it incredible brilliance and showcases your amazing vocal and performance range. No one can touch this performance. And I'm a huge Roy Orbison fan. You make him and all of us mighty proud!

This is her best performance ever of this song, her tonal range is magnificent!
I hate seeing age sap her incredible physical energy on stage. She NEVER needed a chorus line of dancers, 30ft projection screens, and dozens of lasers (like Bey and Swift) to create a power storm of stage energy.
Yes she gave me the chills..
Amazing rendition!! The power and control was unbelievable....she still got it!! 🤸
Looking and sounding fabulous. Timeless
Fantastic both were unfortunately i dont hink alot of ppl will associate this with Roy Orbison though
David didn't say anything about RO. Unfortunately, I don't think a lot of people who make asinine comments and can't use proper grammar.
Cindy is amazing, David. Timeless, beyond talented, and a true gift.
P.S. Roy didn't release his version til AFTER Cindy did, so........
07jeepgirl I'm with you. Amazing talent and beautiful person. Unique and quirky and never get tired of hearing that voice.
More than that!!!
Watching this performance tells me, AGAIN, that´s she´s definetly one of the most underrated artists ever. Yes, she had huge success with her first two albums but then people just seemed to have completely forgotten she existed. She´s in her 60´s now and her incredible voice and charisma stil remain.
And i agree!
@@angemusik9406 Much better than Madonna, in my opinion. It´s just that Madonna is a great businesswoman while Lauper was a lot bolder which, in the end, didn´t help her (commercially speaking).
Impresionante como hace el coro sin ningun esfuerzo, se me pone los pelos de punta, grande Cyndi😍🥰💖
Proof that women can still dance and sing after 50, she sings beautifully live looks amazing too.👍🏻This is one of my favorite songs of hers.

Beautiful gal, beautiful voice, amazing show. The stories and banter between the songs are endearing and hilarious. Cyndi Lauper has always known how to connect with her audience. At last was one of the more interesting album of standards to be put out.
Watching this in awe and admiration, and then, just when I thought I could die in peace she comes back at the minute 3:00 and kills me again with the switch in her voice. Just marvelous!!
I was on edge on my seat with the largest smile on my face, she makes me so happy. Long love Cyndi !!!
