The song was originally intended for Roy Orbison, who recorded it in 1987, but his rendition was not released until 1992, after Lauper's version of it had become a top 10 hit on both sides of the Atlantic in 1989"

I was told my Mom was sent home for hospice and had a few weeks at best. I was 1200 miles away but decided to drive as I was not leaving until she had passed. I was heading north on I-75 in lower Michigan at 3 AM, cruise control set at 85. Just me, the full moon hanging off my left shoulder keeping me company on that dark empty highway. The stereo was blaring to keep my mind alert as it had already been 14 hours in a 22 hour trip. Then I hear this song come on the radio as I too was driving all night to see my Mom. It was in the next day while I was still driving and just 10 minutes away when my Dad called and said Mom just passed. I never got to say good bye. I will always have this song to remind me of my Mom. I miss you Mom. Thank you Cyndi.
Hi David, I'm sorry buddy ❤️ everything's going to be all right. I just thought you should know that she might have left the hospital 10 minutes prior to your arrival but it was that last 10 minutes she wanted to spend with you in the car just the two of you and she did and she was there and she did not tell you goodbye more like when I see you again! ❤❤ And that is an encouraging thought.

She is so talented. One word to describe her: "icon". Thank you for your legacy and for the joy you gave and still give to those like me were teennagers during the 80s'
@@09mheather I like the Orbison version, but this one spoke to me, as a woman. Frankly, I actually did this, so there was a place in my heart, burned and scarred into it. This version is my favorite.
This is one of the gems from the 80's that is overlooked. This song blew me away back in 1989 when it came out and still amazes me almost 30 years later. That woman knows how to sing like nobody's business.
Yep! Cindi sure sang this song way before Celine and Cindi's version is way way way much much much better than Celine's. Song was originally intended for Roy Orbison who recorded it in 1987 a year before his death but wasn't released until 1992. By the time his version was released Cindi who already was very popular and famous sang the song 3 years earlier. Celine only sang her version in 2003.
Lorenshyne well, is tricky, but the song was written for Orbison, and he recorded it before anyone else, but since he died so quickly after that, they asked Cindi to release the first version, although Orbison’s was recorded before
wow what a woman.. Always In my dreams.!! The 80,s are back.. Most of these songs hold such wonderfull memory's. I hope I'm in another dimension going through it all again.!!
I love Cyndi Lauper's version of this song. You can feel how determined she is to get to the man that she loves. I saw her in concert in Germany back in 1985 or 1986, and she told a lame ass joke, but you still had to laugh at it, and she gave a very powerful performance. I have loved her music ever since she sang Girls Just Want To Have Fun, and my friends and I would play it, and sing to it, as we got ready to go out. I think we wore that song out. LOL 😆
This might actually be the greatest song she ever recorded. Love the sound. Love the video. This is passion. Just listen to these lyrics, the singing! This was superb!
A very sensual rendition of this song, hard to imagine anyone can better it. She sang some great songs & took a back seat from composing & singing herself far too early. A singer with an edgy side & great to listen to.
Sou imensamente feliz de poder ouvir essa mulher! Marcou uma fase muito interessante da minha vida e toda vez que volto a ouvir-la me pergunto o pq de ter passado tanto tempo sem essa Maravilhosa. Ra
"I Drove All Night" is a song written and composed by American songwriters Billy Steinberg and Tom Kelly and originally intended for Roy Orbison. Orbison recorded the song in 1987, the year before his death, but his version was not released until 1992. Cyndi Lauper soon covered the song and released it as a single for her A Night to Remember album.
A Night To Remember is my favorite Cyndi album and one of my favorite albums of all time. The songs just all have such a harmonious flow to them. I can't believe it did so poorly on the charts. And was it three were covered by other artists later on, they knew it was good!
somehow it's like a journey back in time to hear cindy's songs. they give you the feeling of being young again and of lifting the world out of its fins again. her voice and the texts are timelessly beautiful and as far as I've seen cindy exudes the same coolness and warmth as before. a timelessly beautiful and lovable woman who is still a dream today like her songs. for me that won't change in the future either. Thank you very much for everything you do and you will give us a gift in the future, cindy.
Madonna overshadowed cyndi, but cyndi is a way better singer than madonna could ever hope to be. Cyndi has one of the most expressive, versatile vocal ranges out there.
She overshadowed nobody, because Lauper is an excellent singer. Madonna sales more because she was naked and with the tongue on the micro. That were interesting in the 80s-. But who admires talented vocal artists admires Lauper. Talent not always means more sales. Look at Beethoven and Mozart in the poverty.
@@KarinaC-xc6hm cindy lauder net worth 50 million Madonna net worth 1.2 billion Cindi way better singer, much more talented than madonna ever could be. Cindi way overshadowed by madonna
@@dwilli3660 Well, if you look at money, but at talent, Madonna was overshadowed by Lauper. I would prefer to have talent, In any case Lauper can live her entire life without working since the 80s, but talent cannot be bought with anything. No money can but it. And Cyndi has too much.
Lauper the better singer sold 50 million albums Maddonna the lesser talent sold 400 million albums. You can't win this argument. Facts are facts, madonna completely overshadowed cindi. It's a shame, she has way less talent but numbers don't lie. Give it up madonna had a way better management and promotions team.@@KarinaC-xc6hm

❤
Triste ❤
💖🙏
my mum used to play this all the time
Hi David, I'm sorry buddy ❤️ everything's going to be all right.
Cyndi's version is the better version in my opinion. The emotion in her version is unmatched with other versions I've heard.
Não canso de escutar também...
De Jundiaí, SP Brasil...
Love Cyndi Lauper! This is my favorite song of hers! 2019 and still listening
She is our queen! No one comes close to her talent, not then not now ! love her.
when I was 15/16 I haven't understood what a masterpiece this song is. But today... it is so perfect! The very special atmosphere of this song. The arrangement: cello, synthesizers and drums... so unique ... and of course Cindy's voice. It is one of the songs you'll never forget even not in hundert years...
Du hast ja so recht👍🎤 🎹🎛🎶🙋♂️
This is a masterpiece
She is so talented. One word to describe her: "icon". Thank you for your legacy and for the joy you gave and still give to those like me were teennagers during the 80s'
Cyndi Lauper still got it she's beautiful
Yess and hot😍😍😍
I love you Celine, but Cyndi's version tears me up.
It does. I lived it. So hot.
Me too
Yes
Listen to the Rob Orbison version.
I Love music.
So this was earlier or Roy Orbisons?
Lorenshyne well, is tricky, but the song was written for Orbison, and he recorded it before anyone else, but since he died so quickly after that, they asked Cindi to release the first version, although Orbison’s was recorded before
Yes and she still knows how to sing like nobody's business. Love Cyndi forever 💜 👌🏼
I love how Cyndi rarely wears shoes in her 80s performances. She’s so natural and connected.
esp people with a foot fetish :-) lol
@@mikekaraoke Yep, I'm guilty:-)))
@@AgentRafa Can't say that one escaped me either. I liked it, heh.
This song is a time machine to the summer of 1989. Some of the greatest days of my life.
I was born that summer, great comment! :)
One of mine too, the end of the 80s and just moving in to serious life of mortgage and family , and now 30 years later .... eeek ....
I was 17 the summer this came out! I remember singing this to my boyfriend! Those were the days!
I was 3
Wow, thx for reminding me of that year - I guess that was THE most 'adventurous' year in my life - in all the meanings of the word!!
👁️💕 CYNDI LAUPER
THIS WOMAN CAN SING.... PERIOD.
SHE ROCKS 😎.
👁️MISS THE 80'S
And she's still hot
She never needs Autotune. A great talent.
You have one of the best vocal range ever. Rock on girlfriend. Love forever!
wow what a woman.. Always In my dreams.!! The 80,s are back.. Most of these songs hold such wonderfull memory's. I hope I'm in another dimension going through it all again.!!
Screaming Mimi's
That's a shame for her. As when it was released in England. It was quite a big hit..
Conspiracy Carl I'm caught between this and Roy Orbison version it's about dead even for me
I fell that way too. Hi from Rio de Janeiro, Brazil.
I was fortunate enough to see her live a few nights ago. I have never in my life heard someone hold a note like Cyndi can.

👍👍👍👍👍👍
didnt know she was performing, is she in the uk or usa x

Cyndi always was and still is one of the greatest artist and singer, I just love her songs and performers ♥
La voz de cymdi es inconfundible única una estrella de la música ,te pusiste a pensar que sería la vida sin la música .
Que sería de la música sin Cyndi?
@@jessi241106 Cyndi Lauper I Drove All Night 🌙 1989
1989
A very sensual rendition of this song, hard to imagine anyone can better it. She sang some great songs & took a back seat from composing & singing herself far too early. A singer with an edgy side & great to listen to.
Angelic voice and one of the greatest singer of all time❤️
Sou imensamente feliz de poder ouvir essa mulher!
That explains why I will forever feel this is the original version. Thank you.
Incidentally, Billy Steinberg and Tom Kelly penned Madonna's iconic hit "Like A Virgin".
Cyndi Lauper's version actually came out first, in 1989.
@scottrngr I didn't say it was ironic; I said it was incidental. I'm not Alanis Morissette - I know the definition of ironic. :)
She just nailed it better than anyone else
The version of this song is incredibly under appreciated. 💯
In general she is very underrated . Sadly because she’s a genius
It is pure brilliance
19 million views? She ruled the 80s!
No its not it's been covered many times it's a Roy orbison cover version
Even celine dion has a cover it this song.
Linda canção uma arte uma pérola um clássico uma poesia uma obra prima linda.
I freaking love this song.
I always though that Cyndi Lauper's voice is underrated.
I have loved this girl so much she has always been so different and I love her for it she is just so unique God bless ER
It’s nice and nostalgic
So nicely and eloquently put. I couldn't have said it better. Thanks for that comment! Much love from Brazil! ♥️😉
She is amazing but it is Roy's song.
It's much better than Celine Dion's version, I just love Cindy stile!
Adoro as músicas dessa mulher , canta muito , ícone dos anos 80 .
She is so amazing.
Madonna overshadowed cyndi, but cyndi is a way better singer than madonna could ever hope to be. Cyndi has one of the most expressive, versatile vocal ranges out there.
So expressive! It feels like she gives away a piece of her heart everytime she sings
@@KarinaC-xc6hm cindy lauder net worth 50 million
Madonna net worth 1.2 billion
Cindi way better singer, much more talented than madonna ever could be.
Cindi way overshadowed by madonna
@@dwilli3660
Well, if you look at money, but at talent, Madonna was overshadowed by Lauper. I would prefer to have talent, In any case Lauper can live her entire life without working since the 80s, but talent cannot be bought with anything. No money can but it. And Cyndi has too much.
Lauper the better singer sold 50 million albums
Maddonna the lesser talent sold 400 million albums. You can't win this argument. Facts are facts, madonna completely overshadowed cindi. It's a shame, she has way less talent but numbers don't lie. Give it up madonna had a way better management and promotions team.@@KarinaC-xc6hm
Great voice, awesome looks. She's still one of the best singers around
Still burning me up inside. This song makes me emotional.
Holy cow! I had only ever heard Celine's version. I love Celine but this version sends hers packing.
Celine's version is a crime against music.
This is my favorite Cyndi Lauper song after Time After Time.
Time after time was the best song in the 80s
