Once again, Olivia Botrie delivers an elegant yet eminently functional design. I would jump at the chance to work with her someday! She’s always so bubbly and passionate about her designs, it’s inspiring to hear how she arrived at each choice she made.
“It’s what fits your house in your location, and that’s what make it honest”- I love that, too many interior design today don’t take in account to the historical context of the area!
I don't think the fireplace was ugly, it just didn't fit the current design. It looked very much art deco. It's natural with time tastes change. Same with designs today, they will look outdated in 20 years.
Agree. I thought the old fireplace was charming, as well as the red oak woodwork everywhere. The reno is nice but I can't help but think it's a shame/mistake to not keep some of the beauty of the original detail. Plus, I'm so over white walls. I've lived in white wall apartments and they make me feel crazypants.
I love that you are so down to the earth when talking to the materials and the color, your vision is super clear and easy to understand for the general public. Unlike some of the other interior designers who talk in riddles and empty words. Subscribed!
Lovely home. I don't understand why the owners would want the traffic flow right in the middle of the kitchen. I would have designed the counter to be an island so people could walk around the door, avoiding walking through the kitchen.
@@coreyjacq Moving the peninsula three feet from the wall wouldn't have changed much in the plumbing. I understand this is a personal preference. I was simply commenting that traffic through the middle of the kitchen didn't make much sense to me. It is a beautiful kitchen! Cheers!
@@colleen6050 I think using two sliding doors means that when barbecuing outdoors the cook can go out to the deck/patio without having to go around the pennisula. But if they had made the pennisula an island with cabinets on the slider wall and a big kitchen window they would have access to the other slider. I pulled this UA-cam to watch because I have a layout with a pennisula but have to go around the pennisula to get outside to the sliders.
That old fireplace was not ugly at all!! It had a certain charm I would have kept it and just change the wood and the tiling then put in gas to make it modern
I see that you were going for symmetry in the kitchen but the sink is too far from the other side. 4.5 feet would be better and making a 2.5 foot space from the wall will make everything possible and improve circulation. Impeccable design and balance of color or shades of black and white throughout. Thank for sharing your kitchen with the viewers.
She is a very special designer, very clever and with so much sense of harmony! It'a a pity that as a brazilian I find it difficult to understand her words. She speaks so fast!
0:42 - "We changed everything" -- that was my fear when I read the title. Was hoping they'd work with the treasures of RARE original features. They made it like any new build. I do ADORE the flooring, but they destroyed the bones.
I prefer the original fireplace over the new one. When looking at homes with our daughter, we were turned off by the remodels which did not retain some of the characteristics and charm of the original home. We passed by those immediately.
I find the stairs way too heavy I think it would’ve looked lovely with a very simple and iron Railing. The softer grey just would have been nicer and a lot less chunky
Because obviously children and families were different in the 1950s. Now the house has been opened up for the 1 party a year that the new owners might have, unless its in December. Yet, it is their house. They can spend all the money they want to update their home. Even if it costs more that most people will earn in their lifetime. Thanks for keeping it real and honest!
The historic character of the house was destroyed. Hope she does newer homes (1980s or later) which she does well. In other vids she did a very good job with a new build condo! Unknown - maybe new owners wanted complete change! If so, they should have bought something else! Some of her comments seemed like she wanted all the new things too. They never showed the outside of the house. Since it's from the 40s, you will think u went thru a portal when u step in, that put u in a different house! It is weird! I saw a house built in the 1920s for sale and they completely changed the inside to look like 2010. It was weird!!!!! The original fireplace was wonderful, it does have an art deco feel @karen deruyter. It could easily have been used with changes and aspects of the kitchen, as well. PS For the 2020s: grey is out and color is in! The house is already dated!
@@dartstudioinc Ooohh... 😃 Lovely. I can somehow see the source of inspo for your own house 🤩👌🏽 as I can already tell you've got bolder plans for your banquette too 😏😉😉
I thought it was ironic they wanted to work with the architecture and era of the house but ripped out every bit of original features including that charming kitchen. Nothing against transformations but it’s a shame to lose some of those features that made the house special and not high end generic which is what it looks like now.
But, to watch the TV, only two people will be able to actually see it. What's the point of having one if it is useless. Bet the owners swap the mirror and TV.
This designer annoys. Her design is okay and disagree with some of her design appraisals. Hate the new fireplace surround. The old stone surround was in great shape and more interesting. Think I would have just painted the wood part, or carefully remove and replace with something that was harmonious with the unique stone esthetique.
This is absolutely beautiful!! Is there any chance at all to get the floor plan and see the size of all the spaces? This looks too close to my house and I’m very inspired
Stopped watching after they took down walls. Why buy an older home if you are going to remove the charm. The original kitchen could have been updated. A lot of people raised families in homes of this size.
my problem with these type of videos is they spew so much negativity on how the house used to look. imagine if you’re the previous owner and you see this video. yes, it was old and it was dated but maybe tame down the mockery. let’s see how people will react to this house after decades of use…
I dont like it. The interior lost the old world charm. Also, the cooking smell and grease air will fill the while downstair mai rooms. I am really not a fan of open kitchen.

Omg she was hilarious!!! The house turned out very functional and gorgeous! What a fun designer!
Once again Olivia did not disappoint!
I love this home, I could move right in and be so comfortable!
Great job Olivia!

The way the designer put the pieces together is stunning. Thumbs up!

They didn't like the era of their house, evidently.
Olivia is such a joy to watch ❤ Absolutely gorgeous space
Can I ask why you used a round dining table? Doesn’t seem like a good shape for the space.

I would have switched the pantry and fridge location
Couldn't agree more!
I LOVE the appliances that are the same color of the paint-GENIUS! Wish I had knwn that was possible when I was remodeling!
Another stunner from Olivia Botrie! Love her beautiful yet practical decor! Someone ask her to speak slower please! I had to play this twice! Haha!
haha I try to slow down but that's just how I speak, you can always slow down the play back :)
Love when they ask the paint color!!!! Do it every time, por favor
This designer deserves an Oscar. 😳
There’s a lot of interior designers out there, but none have this designer’s energy and wit. I’d hire her just for that!!
Appreciate it!
Love Olivia ' s personality!!!
Love how open the kitchen is.

I liked that 40s look just open up the rooms.
Beautiful project! Well done!
Olivia- my favorite, fast-talking H&H designer. She really is one of the best, as this design proves ... and she does talk really fast.

The cabinets meeting the bulkhead and the crown molding was very eye-catching.
Lol.
Really homey transformation, tradtional and modern style. Love it.

Beautiful well designed home.👍🥰

Gorgeous new design for this home. Love it!

I’ve been looking for a black floor lamp with the domed shade, as shown in the Living Room. Care to share the source or brand please? Thanks!

There is more of her talking in the 6 minute video than the actual house tour. It's exhausting to listen to the constant chatter.

Very nice change. Love it’s new look. Designer’s attitude was certainly not humble! Yikes, she might have been very difficult to work with …
Her personality makes her fun and engaging to watch. Her job in the video is to articulate how and why she made design choices.

You are talking too much of practicality but putting the tv at corner & placing a mirror in front of sitting area, WTF is that decor all about? 👎
