Ark's Cathie Wood: Confidence growing in Tesla, buying more

Cathie Wood said Ark Invest is still bullish on Tesla and continues to buy up shares of the electric car maker.
“Our confidence in Tesla has grown as we’ve done research on what ride-sharing potentially could add. It could limit the risks significantly, it’s a much more profitable business than electric vehicles,” Wood told CNBC’s Bob Pisani on “ETF Edge” on Wednesday. “Even though there is some debate at Tesla whether or not they should launch a human driven ride-hailing network, it would be a very good bridge we think to their autonomous strategy and we think they will decide to do that.”
Ark Invest’s flagship fund - Ark Innovation -has raked in $5.3 billion in inflows this year alone, according to FactSet. The ETF, which trades under ticker ARKK, is up nearly 20% this year after an impressive nearly 150% gain in 2020. Tesla is the largest holding in Ark Innovation, making up more than 8.5% of the ETF’s total weight.
Ark reports its trades every day and those updates reflect the buying in Tesla, Wood said. The electric auto maker’s shares were down more than 2% on Wednesday, although they did tick higher slightly on Wood’s comments. Tesla’s stock is down 5% in the last one month, but still up 386% over the last 12 months.
“As time goes on and we learn about their artificial intelligence expertise, the 30 billion miles they have collected of real-world driving data, no one comes close ... I think Google might be at 30 million, compared to 30 billion and we know that in the AI [artificial intelligence] world and autonomous is AI that the company with the most data and the best quality data will win,” Wood added.
Wood said the probability of having successful autonomous vehicles is going up and therefore Ark’s price target will follow at some point.
Wood is a longtime bitcoin bull, with big bets on the Grayscale Bitcoin Trust. Wood told CNBC she expected institutional interest in bitcoin this year but Tesla’s purchase of the digital currency was a surprise.
Ark Invest has more than $58 billion assets under management.

@@amateruss I think I’m at that point. I’ve made a lot of money the last few years. Everything is paid off and I invested lots and took big bets. It paid off last year and I have more then enough to retire and for my kids to do whatever they want. My job pays very well but I would rather spend my time with my kids while they are young and want me around.
Maybe I’ll go back to work in the future or do something on the side. For now I have plans to retire this summer.

I worked in an office where there was just 1 guy over 40. He basically didn't do anything all day (he had no deliverables). He can go golfing in the middle of the day. But he was the fixer whenever anything needed his connections - probably the same guys he goes golfing with. He was the go-to guy in matters where no one else had expertise (he knows a guy) and for procedures that were not documented.
You may have to go back to work if you invest based on Cathie’s advice, Tesla stock is going to run out of steam. It’s inevitable like after the day 🌞there’s a night 🌚. Everything in life is based on cycles but short sighted investors seems to forget about that 😉.

While I do really like the anti-cancer proposition of Arkg, let's be honest after a deflationary boom, profit margins will rise as consolidation happens in the winner take most economy, leading to common pharma price gouging of sick people.

The advantage of Tesla is their speed to execute. They can easily correct any mistake in their action. It is not the big that eats the small but it is the fast that eat the slow.
yes, but, don't under-estimate their first mover advantage. They've been perfecting their software (that runs everything and manages the battery stuff) for over a dozen years. Built their own chips, their own computers, wrote their own software... the other automakers who are just starting down this road want to outsource everything, and there is nobody offering this level of refinement in their software, nobody. A 10-15 year head start... and Tesla ain't slowing down.

Fiat currency. Bitcoin's value is measured in said fiat currency, therefore if bitcoin is successful in replacing fiat currency, we will then run into the problem of bitcoin
having no value since it can't be measured in the fiat currency so then we will be put in a south park "space bucks" scenario where we will have to assign it value inevitably making bitcoin just another fiat currency.
What I find hilarious is the fact that the whole idea of bitcoin is that they want to move away from a fiat currency yet the way you buy bitcoin is by investing said fiat currency.

She’s really pinning a lot on Tesla getting into the ridesharing game. Seems like a bit of a reach. But she’s been right about them so far, so I guess it’s risky to bet against her. It just seems like so much of Tesla’s success is already priced into the share price. They’re near $4000 pre-split. It’s so tough for me to see there being much upside left in this stock in the near to medium term. And I’m a Tesla and Elon fanboy for sure.
But the hype is real. This video is one. Every time they deliver it just solidifies their position more. There’s too much hype and too much momentum and Tesla has the track record of execution to back it up.

Anyone who is bashing this woman please listen to her comments carefully. She was trying to stress that she is betting on AI, and the future value that data will have in terms of AI and machine learning specifically. Not saying that the market won’t correct and her picks in the short run and her stocks won’t drop. However, before you bash her, research AI and where it really is now and where it’s going. We are at the dawn of a new “industrial revolution”, however it will be in the form of AI and the data that makes AI and machine learning efficient. 115 years ago there wear people investing in this thing called “the automobile” and people thought it would never work. AI is the future and data will be the new most important currency in the world. There is a reason why amazon and Facebook are so powerful. They have SO MUCH DATA!!! Not saying her fund won’t collapse because in the short run anything is possible. But in the long run she is 100% correct in her thinking.

The problem with automatous vehicles is not so much technological. It is the political and legal barriers that will most likely prevent it from being widely used in the next 10 years.
That and other people are disgusting...
If autonomous vehicles are proven to be safer than human drivers which it will a level 5 autonomy, then political and legal barries will be a known issue.

I'm thoroughly perplexed on the matter. Did you see Meet Now (seemingly Microsoft's version of Zoom) popped up on Windows10 in a very recent update? Where's Zoom's edge? I don't need to sign up, register, or anything; it's just a fixture of my toolbar now. So, now what the hell do I do with ZM stock?? Like I said, now I'm confused.

she is a good saleswoman, she knows how to use the buzz words to attract newbies. we are in a tech mania market like back in 2000. these companies are going up , true, but once the dust settles , we will go back to the fundamentals which is earning and profit !

If she can repeat this kind of returns for next 10 years that’d be impressive but one year is nothing and anybody’s who is knowledgeable about investing knows that very well. People who are buying right now her funds are buying at the peak price which is never a good idea to buy anything at the top price.
