This dude is a class act. Never forget the time he bought a hotel room for my friends and I after we drove out of town to see them in Dallas. We spent the night in our car, and I guess he felt bad, so got us a room to shower and clean up. Much respect.

and his double bass is as sloppy as ours :D
@@rezlets5017 I know i shouldn't say it but slightly sloppy double bass sounds so good to me. There's a rawness to it that it makes it sound angrier than perfect double bass. Like in Dyers Eve by Metallica, Lars is sloppy as fuck there but it sounds so good when it gets lost in the mix.
@@rezlets5017 he is old now, and his band took a big hiatus, just a few drummer keep up with stamina and technique for long, but hes a genius and has a great personal touch on System songs. Trully unique band.

He is a great drummer and songwriter. Most of theirs songs groove, because of his beats. But that is also the bad part. sadly enough he is not able to bring the groove on live shows with all the time changes etc

My dad was a drummer in the 50's. He was murdered from gang violence when i was almost 2yrs old. I love the drums myself but my brain doesn't partition itself in order to have left and right arm do different things. Thank you bro for this video!!!! Love SOAD!!!!

After all these years and after all the stagnant times revolving around serj, John has never let up from the power and momentum he holds for his band SOAD. What a dedicated and loyal drummer he is. Mad respect for this guy. Keep it up John, and awesome drumset. Loving the paistes.

I think Soad drumming patterns incorporate a variety of technics that need skills to perform, I don't know about the jargon but it is clear that the songs are shaped by mode switching, tempo switching, time signatures, blast beat, and odd time measures. I have always appreciated the drumming patterns in Soad songs. John Dolmayan added so much to Soad music, his genius drumming is a key element that got me into the band back in the days.
ALOT was andy aswell on the selftitled atleast (first drummer for soad)
As a female pianist who got lost on UA-cam and ended up here, all I have to say is that this man is an icon.

Spinosaurus4ever you’re probably right it’s most likely going to be the last time they will tour around the States since Serj is getting pretty old and wants to focus on writing instrumental music but I’m just glad I’m going to get a chance to see them before it was too late

Vocals (being a percussive instrument) can sometimes make a passage in a song seem to have more rhythm elements than those being played by the drummer. System of a down are a great example of a band with no shortage of dynamic, complex, and harmonizing vocal parts. This can add to the effect of the drum part when brouught to the front of the mix. System might have parts of songs that sound more complex than they are, due to all parts coming together this way. Also, adding in a tambourine and a shaker over top of beats utilizing the toms can complicate the unexpected listener.

Very few besides drummers realize how hard drumming is.
I doubt that, nowadays most people would understand how hard it is. Most people I talk with think drumming is impressive and seems very hard;) But maybe you meant that they don't realize exactly how hard it is cause thats true, even if they understand it's hard they might not realize exactly how hard it is

It's hard for different reasons compared to other instruments, which is why many don't understand.
yeah. Definitely different reasons. You dont need to remember fingerings, pitch, ect. But there is a lot more different things. I dont think it's harder than say guitar, but maybe equal difficulty.
Definitely the most physical of all the instruments. Thats why when I see metal drummers like Nicholas Barker or Gene Hoglan rip the kit like its no ones business my jaw just drops 😱😱😱😱
