I do believe it's a conscious choice to have that low VR. Like, you start with a thousand. You'd have to lose more than two hundred times in a row to even approach that low VR

What you can do to join 20000+ rooms is go to the "friend" menu and join a 20000+ japanese player in your history. That way you can avoid losing 1 hour that's what i usually do as a 8000 player and it works really well

Slow mo shows that the blue shell went for the guy in 2nd place (for internet lag reason ig), it didn't get "caught" in the bomb blast, like, at all.

I think Rosalina is so big because when you're in space your body/bones gets stretched out a little bit and you get taller. As you could imagine, LIVING in space probably would make you bigger in scale, as opposed to somebody that lived in a place with gravity. Great videos Shortcat, I am learning a lot about Mariokart from you, and I appreciate all the work you do.
Are you planning to make "How important is X stat" for hidden stats like water or anti-gravity speed?

I watched at 0.25 speed and paused about 2 seconds later. The Bob-Omb detonated, Shortcat looked through the rear-view mirror, and the Spiny Shell was still in the air going after anzuiro.

Ye I thought that might've happened when I was just casually watching the vid, but I went back as well was because essentially nobody got hit.
What I think actually happened was 2nd was so close to Short that lag might've displayed them slightly behind because the blueshell actually goes a bit past 2nd right next to Shortcat, but 2nd had a mushroom ready thats why it looked to me as if the blueshell might've been destoryed in the bomb explosion

rosalina was originally gonna be the same size as the rest of the princesses, however the mariokart lead dev didn't "need another heavyweight" but wanted one of the princesses to be a heavyweight. tiny detail but yeah. they changed her model during galaxy production and shoehorned in some lore that shes bigger because the lack of gravity in space allows the skeleton to expand more than on earth-like worlds.
Just a quick tip for slippery tracks like sherbert land, when you miss coins or an item box and you need to go back, OR if you somehow get turned around like you did, alignment hoping can actually cancel your sliding around and give you some instant traction

I have not played mario kart 7 or tour so idk about those tracks, but DK Mountain was my #1 pick and i'm so happy it's here! Wii rainbow road has a shortcut in the trailer too and i like that track as well. Daisy circuit was one of my least favorite in mario kart wii but it had more to do with the specifics of how it functions there. I'm hopeful that it will be fun in 8 deluxe!

A buddy of mine is a network engineer and says it's because Nintendo likely uses a compatibility layer designed with some asynchronous latency modification to adjust not only for network conditions but also geographic positions relative to their servers and relays.
This could mean that they aren't simply pushing people slightly ahead as you hypothesize, but an online game is actually localized to the console and the servers transfer coordinate transfer data to bots that are skinned like the Mii avatars in the lobby. It would also mean that results are only generated as the system starts to detect that each user's instance has began to determine a winner.
He came to this conclusion after a couple of races where we played together and got the same placement despite competing, something which should be impossible. Admittedly, it could have just been a bug or some weird glitch, but if he's right... it really kind of sours the whole experience since you aren't directly playing against others.

21:10 i remember once hearing if the character is named "Baby *insert character*", it actually means that character as a baby, so from the past. if its "*insert character* Jr." it means their child
so Baby Bowser is Bowser as a child, but Bowser Jr. is Bowser's child for example

Shortcat, my current favorite combo is Kamek, Teddy Buggy, Sponge Tires, Paper Glider. It has all of King Boo's stats but better. Wdyt?
Compared to king boo teddy roller paper, your combo has -3 water speed, -1 accel, +2 invincibility, and a smaller hitbox. That's arguably better, mainly for the smaller hitbox. Although if going for a smaller hitbox than king boo, i like kamek + inkstriker + roller + paper. Ive thought about using this before but I don't get to use king boo :(
