Well you likely just saved me like 300$ as I’m looking to build a cnc and then do a project with it that requires flat wood and I didn’t want to have to buy a planer/joiner so knowing for sure that this is a option makes me very happy thanks
This is the first video I've watched regarding flattening. I really appreciate how you demystify the jobs our CNC can do. Thanks again Jake, fine job !!
Hey Jake.. thanks for the great video. Just subbed to your channel mainly because reading through the comments you took the time to reply to each one. That's pretty decent in my book. Keep it up brother.
Allister Openshaw I’m glad you are here!! I try to get to every comment.. some slip past me, but I figure if people take the time to comment, I better comment back.. 👍👍
This is informative showing us how to flatten on a CNC , I just flatten a board like that on my large Jointer and Planer it took me less then 5 minutes. i will do this with my CNC could be easier, Thumbs Up!
Fun flattening video. I'm doing something similar with circular slabs and the router I have for the amount of slabs I have is crazy. My planer is too small, as is my CNC, so onward!
Dave Satosky My planer leaves some snipe.. and this video is aimed at CNC instruction. But you are correct, totally could do it with the planer. I could do a 24 inch wide piece on the CNC if needed..
I just purchased an IQ. Love your videos. What is the green vacuum attachment coming off the dust collector from Laguna? I appreciate any info you can give.
Steve Adelmann have fun with your Laguna IQ . That green pipe is just cheap 4 inch pvc pipe it is a friction fit in the dust collection.. works great!!
Jake, do you find the inline clamps lift the workpiece at all when you apply pressure? The Kreg clamps look like a good fit because of the low profile. Thanks!
The Hamlin Woodshop The armor clamps do try to lift it, but I am just mindful of it and watch the pressure I put on it.. the trick is to put just enough force to hold it, but not lift it.. If I had to give an edge to one over the other it would be the Kreg. The lower profile is a bonus and the clamp rod is closer to the surface which combats to pushing up problem the armor clamps have. 👍👍
Another nice video Jake. It's amazing the things a CNC can be used for. I've been so busy making signs I dont want to go back to conventional woodworking. I'm getting Christmas orders now and haven't advertised once. What screen recording software do you use?
Unless you were going to use that block for a project, is there a particular reason you didn't edge joint it and resaw it first? I'm curious of your reasoning.
Honu425 You are correct.. it is for an upcoming project that I want the rough edge on., it will be coming out in the next week or so. 👍👍 Thanks for watching
Thank you for the great video Jake! Didn't realize I could plan on my CNC. Question for you please... if i glue some wood strips together you think i can plane them as well on the cnc? Or will the glue get gumed up and mess up? I wanted to strip glue some maple, cherry, walnut strips about 36 inches wide. What are your thoughts please? Thank you
Planers are only useful to thickness material... The cnc is used to flatten(bring top and bottom into plane/parallel) Essentially working as a really large jointer.
Robert Schafer Thank you very much Robert!! Glad you enjoyed it! The song is called Get Back Home by Aldenmark Niklasson you can find it on Epidemic Sound!
I would have had this done on a joiner and a planer in less time it took you to program your cnc. At least show this with a large slab that wouldn't fit on a joiner. This makes no sense
Nice showing of how to flatten warped wood. Beautiful slab of Cherry
Harneal Media This is the first piece of cherry I have found that thick around here.. I had to get it!!

Tim Boger Thank you So much.. I’m glad you enjoy the videos.. plenty more to come. 👍👊
Just finished another 40min session of watching Jake's videos!
Junkyard129 Haha... I like to hear that!!

Sweet, great video Jake!
Carl Jacobson Thank you Buddy.. glad you liked it!!
I was waiting for you to turn around and put the board on a plainer to get the other side lol!
Lol good stuff 👍

Cross Cut Creations we have to get by with what we have.. 👍👍👊
Nice video. It’s cool to see this done on the cnc.
Chipped Builds Thank you for watching, I’m glad you like the video.. 👍👍👊
Ooh Rah, Jake! Great job on the video.
Downeast Thunder Creations Glad you enjoyed the video! Semper Fi!! Just subbed to you!! 👍👊
Thanks Jake! Much appreciated. Semper Fi brother.
Great video Jake. I Liked the song.
SoCoMO woodwork I picked the music I thought you would enjoy... lol Glad you liked the video Buddy!! 👍👊
Awesome video. Want a CNC machine 😁 Have great evening, Andreas from Off Grid Sweden 🇸🇪
No out-takes?? I'm disappointed 😉
Offgrid.se Thank you for watching Andreas!! Glad you enjoyed the video!! 👍👍
Steve Gronsky I knew I was forgetting something!! 👍👍😂😂
What if you use electrical planer to get some material first and then cnc for final pass? I think it will speed up whole process, no?
Konstantin Borus It doesn’t take very long to let the machine do its magic. But if you could save a few passes with a planer, I say .. why not. 👍👊
@@JakeThompson Thanks for reply! I like your setup.
Great channel! I just randomly clicked on your comment on the latest VidIQ post survey. Came right over and subscribed.
Do It Glad you like the channel.. I clicked on you and subbed back... I just watched the video on your home page.. good stuff!!
Jake Thompson right on! Thanks, man
Great video man! I have used this technique myself and it works great. Thanks for sharing!
DCD Laser & CNC Thanks for watching man!! 👍👍👊
just curious... after you got the one side flat, why not just go over to the planer for a few passes?

cbrSpeedster1 I’m glad you enjoy the videos. I use Filmora screen recorder.. you have to pay for it, but it’s cheap..

Joe Saccomanno Very welcome!! If I understand you correctly.. I did it in this cutting board video.. HERE: ua-cam.com/video/5PWpHGW6xhI/v-deo.html
@@JakeThompson Tried to go to that video & got this message:

Curious: Do you have a planer as well? This is definitely useful but perhaps a lot slower
Nikil Ragav I do have a planer, but a cnc will get it perfectly flat..

Cool!
👍👍👍
Why did you chose this cnc vs avid
Avid wasn’t as well known at the time I bought this..
Where can I get some of those sweet “Custom Craft” feeler gauges you used to level that chunk o beauty ??? Lol great video bud 👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻
Al Schulze - WoodworX lol Glad you liked it Brother!! I will send you some Feeler Guages!!
Hey Jake, good video! Whats the name of the group and song?
Robert Schafer Thank you very much Robert!! Glad you enjoyed it! The song is called Get Back Home by Aldenmark Niklasson you can find it on Epidemic Sound!
How big will it flatten?
Chris Brown The working area is 24 inches x 36 inches
@@JakeThompson I need something bigger to do 5x10 ft slabs.
wow its been almost a year when you posted this I remember it haha
Frankie's CNC & Woodworking channel Hahaha
i bought a couple of the plastic clamps i sent them back, they were junk, they slipped past the teeth when tightening them. junk
Good morning.. glad you could send the junk back.

Here’s a table flattened. Maybe it will make sense. ua-cam.com/video/79C3hae5u-o/v-deo.html
So do you just zero your z between each pass?
Jessica Riggs Yes, that’s all I do, just keep zeroing to the highest point. 👍👍
Jake Thompson thanks!! Great information!
