Man, you know what I miss? Depictions of the other lieutenants in a similar state of their devolution! Past their intro appearance, but before their total devolution! Just like how we saw Dumah here since at the time the wraith Raziel encountered him his devolution was paused for years keeping his rather humanoid build. So here we have a giant armored tank who can drain your blood with his long tongue, drain your soul from a distance, impervious to conventional attacks, a master combatant who is also extremely versed in fighting armored targets since he has a blacksmith lore heritage, can emit a sort of constriction energy at close range, and can shake the ground at long range to stun potentially dozens of foes. And he can do almost all of these tricks in the spectral realm with the exception of blood draining! His only downfall is bad strategy (and the usual vampire weaknesses).

MOOOOORRRRRRRREEEEEEEEE!!!!! I WANT TO SEE MOREEEE!!! Amazing job on the in depth explanation. I did manage to play the very first LOK way back before Soul Reaver came out. This series is one of my all time favorites for video games hands down. I just watched your entire LOK series so far, you definitely filled in some blanks I had when I first played through these games. I was really young so it doesn't surprise me that I missed some things, there was a lot of moving parts to grasp in this epic story. Thank you and I look forward to more, like the rest of his brothers, Malek, Mortanious, Vorador, and definitely Janos Aldrin if possible.
Dumah’s armor is a result of his insecurity the same way Zephon’s evolution was a result of his cowardice and Rahab’s was of his desperation. This isn’t really about Dumah, but I had a related thought. I always wondered what Kain’s evolution was. (Yes I acknowledge Kain abandoning his kingdom during Nosgoth but he’s still really fucking old) I believe The Heart of Darkness spent thousands of years attaching Kain to the Reaver . He didn’t change like his sons because his alteration was different. It’s why he lived after Raziel tore his heart out and also why spectral reaver was the only weapon that could kill him. That was his evolution. It would even explain how Janos knew who Raziel was without knowing he was the spirit within the Reaver. I’d love to see a video on. Vorador and I know you don’t like Blood Omen 2 but I’d be glad if you did a video for Faustus, Magnus, etc.
Legacy of Kain is one of the best game series ever conceived, the mechanics, the dialogue, the ambience, the lore and the environment. Just brilliant. Thanks for making a lore channel man. It was much needed!
These are so well done. I look forward to this every time they come out. I love the fact that this game series is still getting so much attention and love after all these years
Not remade just a facelift keep all the original audio just update the graphics don't change anything about the story or architecture make the old magic new again
Hopefully you do more character studies for characters in the original blood omen. It's not as widely known as its soul reaver counterpart, and finding the original game is quite hard already, so going back for the story is difficult. Just a thought. Keep up the good work.
I remember when I first discovered that extra cutscene between Dumah and Raziel in the spiritual world I played games so many time just trying to find secret stuff in them
"Unlike his other brothers, Dumah’s devolution was prematurely halted when he was killed. This explains why his appearance is not as horrific as his other siblings." That explains a lot
Dumah was a brilliant warrior and strategist. He opted for a new path of evolution, becoming a wraith like Raziel, to have a fighting chance. The difference of course, he can't shift realms like Raziel and make a new body in planar portals, so once he lost his body in the furnace, he was done.
@@papapapa16 that is neither a new path of evolution, nor a brilliant choice. All vampire spirits when left long enough to fetter in the spectral plane, adapt and begin to feast on souls. There are numerous examples, the entire vampire wraith enemy type. Dumah was struck down by vampire hunters, but stuck around in the spectral plane and brought that ability back once raziel removed the impaling implements. No different to that random melchahim that you pull a staff out of when first learning about vampire wraiths. It's true that his body stopped changing while he was dead. But that wasn't really by his own choice...
@@FFKonoko sorry I didn't explain myself. My theory is that Dumah let himself get caught on purpose, I mean, he was probably the most powerful being in all of Nosgoth at the time, how else would the humans beat him? Kain told everyone that Raziel would return to kill them, so Dumah probably thought this was his best fighting chance.
Once again, great work doing this! I love the approach to each character, I can't believe you can found him in the spectral realm, I never tried that before
I'm loving these. I only stumbled upon your series recently and I was thrilled to realize that it was in-progress with up-to-date theories and lore explanations presented with good diction and impressive visuals. i can't even begin to fathom how difficult it must have been for you to get so much quality footage from Nosgoth. very well done series!
YES! Finally another episode of this simply incredible character study series, Dumah is one of the most interesting cases of Kain's lieutenants, cus as you said he managed to retain most of the benefits of his transformation without much downsides, fighting him for the first time is beyond scary, and honestly is one of the things you would wish you could forget how to do, solely to go through again. Soul Reaver did that really well, seeing as Raziel is usually at a disadvantage against his brethren, and you'd have to come up with a way to get the upper hand, it made fights so much more interesting than a brawl. Honestly the only thing I find is a shame is the fact that Turel is kidnapped through time by Azimuth so we dont get to see how he would've been in soul reaver 1, can't really complain though cus finding him in defiance was an unsettling surprise to say the least. A question though, who do you think you're gonna be covering after your done with the lieutenants? Janos or Vorador maybe? Mortanius? The prophecy of the hylden/vampire champion? I'd say the guardians but I dont think we have alot about most of them which is a shame. Looking forward to the next video though! You do an incredible job with every single one of these, so keep it up!
I thought Turel had control of the forges cause the lava rivers were located in Nozgoths North-Eastern mountains where Turels territory was directly located.
Thanks very much for the video. Dumah is the brother of Raziel who always unnerved me the most. He isn't some monstrosity, he is just stronger, more powerful, than any other vampire. Aside from Kain, of course. I could only imagine the battle that took place between Dumah and the humans. Striking down one of Kain's lieutenants had to have been a monumental achievement. I wonder if this is what gave humans the morale to continue in the blighted future Nosgoth?
I have to wonder why none of Dumahs children came back to try and free their lord, and instead apparently choosing to go feral. Maybe they didn't feel that freeing Dumah would be enough for him to overlook that his own "elite warriors" chose to flee instead of fighting to the end?
It's interesting to listen to the politics of clan leaders, the devisions, conflicts amongst them and plots to overthrow each other in attempts to grab power... it gives credit to when Kain described his empire as "corrupt" back in the Defiance opening.
it took me two days to find out how to kill Dumah. and when I did smite him eventually, i let out a yell, for the first time in my life, and then got beaten for yelling for such nonsense ... ah yes. not so happy childhood memories.
I know the feeling. When I was younger, a boss I remember struggling with for months was Demons Gate from FF7. When I finally defeated it, I was yelling with joy.
I love Dumah, and ash waters. Has a atmosphere of a thriving land that because of the stubbornness of its ruler and it's incapacity to see any threats due to it's own self esteem and over confidence turned one of nosgoth biggest empires to a pool of demise and ashes.
And it's my own favourite battle, to not be constricted to the boss chambers and yet try to find out in the whole city how to kill a giant colossus chasing you in both helms
So I'm seeing some interesting theories to explain the rotted Dumahim corpses like the snow slowly melting them or Dumah feeding on their souls but there is a line that does seem to confirm that vampire bodies should decompose. When Raziel see's the body of Janos he seems shocked that Janos has not decayed, even going so far as to ask how it's possible. and that's only five hundred years. So it stands to reason that the considerably weaker Dumahim could have rotted away over the thousand or so years between Raziel's death and resurrection
I played this game a lot as a teen. I knew everything about this game.........until my friend asked if i had ever shifted in the throne room before starting the right. I was like no, why the hell would i bother? And then did it to humor him and BOOM, mind blown.
I used the previous character studies to know how to beat the bosses in SR1 whilst streaming it. This went up 2 days after I got to Dumah and figured out how to beat him on my own.
I left my friends early on a Friday night to watch this, I can't wait for Turel. Please go nuts with the LoK lore your content is the best and most in depth by a longshot
With his size and strength and his offspring's ability to extend their tongues to feed on blood, I think he could've become more like an elephant. Elephants are powerful fighters with their trunks and tusks after all

It’s unfortunate that the game series died out long ago, in my mind there is lots of potential for this game to carry on into modern times on modern consoles but I guess it’s a relic of the past. I watch every video you make about these characters etc. thank you for taking the time to put these videos together. I think they’re very good quality and very entertaining
Another excellent character study. Like you, I was always skeptical of Dumah's claim to have surpassed Kain; the Scion of Balance always has more tricks up his sleeve than his opponents realize. On a relatively minor note, I must thank you for enabling me to recognize Raziel's brothers pre-devolution at a glance; before I watched these videos the only one I could pinpoint was Rahab (the blue skin is something of a giveaway).
They tied up their weapons to their arms, that much is known
Man, Dumah was the boss who gave me the most chills when I was younger.
Only one more brother left to talk about, and will defenitly be an interesting tale.
Wow! Decades later I find out there was another cut-scene in the spirit world that I never saw! This game was even more amazing than I knew. I hope they reboot this series or at least give us more content to enjoy.
His battle and size was the most intimidating, please do Turel and the members of the circle of the pillars
Yet another amazing character study.
Me, after the fight is over: "tf am I gonna do with constrict??- gimme the ground pound ability!"
I just realized that Soul Reaver 2 is 20 years old this year
I didn't realize the spectral realm cutscene was hidden. I saw it first time I played it.
Dumah reminds me of the story of Lucifer how his arrogance was his downfall. Thanks for uploading these dude! I really love the fact
There’s still LOK media being uploaded, I would love to see at least a reboot of all the games. There is so much context and substance to these games it’s a shame they never made it to the mainstream, these days people want online multiplayer not good story
I love how you keep asking do we want to see more. I damn near foam at the mouth for these videos. The narration, knowledge of the lore and, the top shelf editing works. There is no do we want more. Give us what you got, ALL OF IT.
His name was so might-sounding; that's why I named my dog after him.
Been binge-watching your vids. Thanks for sharing!
It is amazing to know there are still fellow Soul Reaver/Legacy of Kain fans out there, thank you so much for these uploads 🙏
we are here))
I'm always happy to see these and to see that the legacy if kain fan base is still alive
Very like that additional info about voice actors and other insights👍🏻
My favorite boss. Seemed like an amazing evolution and I would’ve liked to see him fight Kain.
I knew about the hidden cut scene but only because of curiosity, since I liked seeing how the world's between living and spirit looked differently I just warped to the spirit in his chamber and found him there. Very cool.
Been a fan of legacy of kain series for a long time. Just discovered the channel, great stuff!
6:14 wow... mind blown. I played this game in my childhood many times and I never knew this was a thing. Pretty cool!
Your power up should have been a seismic punch to the ground and have you stun enemies.
@johnsummers2943 Yeah, that would've been cool.
Can you do a video highlighting how Nosgoth changes through the eras? An overview of how the land itself decays, and how its inhabitants, humans and vampires alike, slowly come to ruin, would be really interesting.
For sure. I was thinking about doing something like that soon actually.
@@strictlyfantasy Thank you. And fantastic channel by the way. This is swiftly becoming one of my favourite haunts on UA-cam. This must have been a lot of hard work.
This video series is giving me a much deeper appreciation for the game and its story, which is saying a lot considering I already think of it as the best in the medium.
theses are really well done and frankly they have become the highlight of my work day thanks for the hard work and great insight into it, its nice to see something that isn't reading from a wiki word for word
Can't wait for the Turel character study, these videos revived my love for LOK and it's teaching me new stuff about the series I didn't even know about. Keep up the great work!
"the pen is mightier than the sword"
"those who live by the sword, die by the sword"
I am loving these character studies you are doing on the Legacy of Kain series, please do not stop them anytime soon.
After the last three, I don't think I've clicked faster
I’m glad these videos are still coming! I’ve just got back into this series after about 15 years and I love it!
I can't believe I never once thought to check the spectral plane before removing the spears from his body. I am blown away
9:22 "At this point, they are both wraiths, they had both died once already." Twice, technically XD
I wish they would start this series back up again. It was one of my favorite series of games.
Kain didn't change because he used the time devices after throwing Raziel to the abyss. He didn't want to wait another eternity!
Legacy of Kain is one of the best game series ever conceived, the mechanics, the dialogue, the ambience, the lore and the environment. Just brilliant. Thanks for making a lore channel man. It was much needed!
These are so well done. I look forward to this every time they come out. I love the fact that this game series is still getting so much attention and love after all these years
Damn, I wish this game would get remade.
I second that!
Kain told everyone that Raziel would return to kill them, so Dumah probably thought this was his best fighting chance.
dead internet theory.. I don’t believe most of you are real anymore
Once again, great work doing this! I love the approach to each character, I can't believe you can found him in the spectral realm, I never tried that before
Great video. I appreciate the effort you put in.
Looking forward to the rest in this series.
His voice was probably like that to symbolize how close to Kain he was but lost himself due to dying unlike his brothers, thats my headcannon tho
A great way to start the weekend!
You're doing great with these man. Hope you keep going
I just binged watched all your LOK video's and then you had to upload this. No I need to watch this before going to bed.
Hope to see the one on Turel soon. He was one of my favorites.
I've been enjoying these SO much! Thanks for helping me revisit one of my childhood classics!
It makes me so happy to see more fans of this awesome series
Just found these the other day and was hoping that new ones would come out. Keep it up.
You're doing a service to game fans by continuing to cover this series and refusing to let it die.
I like the way Dumah demonstrates that fire kills everything, unless that thing is explicitly fireproof.
I missed the spectral cutscene ! (Well I couldn't know it was there).
Yes!!!! Been waiting for this. Love this channel ❤
Thank you the video. LoK is a true masterclass in how to write an emotional, nuanced plot.
Thanks for these man, little nuggets of joy on a bad day.
Your videos are amazing. I will always love this game and it's lore beyond any others.
I have to wonder why none of Dumahs children came back to try and free their lord, and instead apparently choosing to go feral.
Maybe they didn't feel that freeing Dumah would be enough for him to overlook that his own "elite warriors" chose to flee instead of fighting to the end?
It's interesting to listen to the politics of clan leaders, the devisions, conflicts amongst them and plots to overthrow each other in attempts to grab power... it gives credit to when Kain described his empire as "corrupt" back in the Defiance opening.
it took me two days to find out how to kill Dumah. and when I did smite him eventually, i let out a yell, for the first time in my life,
and then got beaten for yelling for such nonsense ...
ah yes. not so happy childhood memories.
I know the feeling. When I was younger, a boss I remember struggling with for months was Demons Gate from FF7. When I finally defeated it, I was yelling with joy.
"and then got beaten for yelling for such nonsense" what the heck?
Thanks. I have never heard of this Game or Lore and I will now be watching all of these videos to learn more.
You better not stop!!! This game has one of the best story in video games history
I really enjoy this deep exploring into Kain's characters.
I remember that this battle unnerved me as well when I first played this. You don't expect a boss battle to become a chase sequence.
I feel like Ivw atched this playlist 3 times now. 😅
Elephants are powerful fighters with their trunks and tusks after all
This franchise needs to be turned into an animated streaming series of either movies or a show.
Another masterful delivery and narration for the LOK series, fine work as always.
The voice acting and dialogue were so good
I’m loving these so much man. Giving love to all my favourite vampire bois in fiction. Can’t wait to see you tackle Turel and hopefully Janos as well as the ancient vampires. Keep up the quality videos. Spread the love of Legacy of Kain to everyone!
Man I look forward to these character analysis you do. Another great one. Thank you.
Sweet. I'm gonna watch this when I get off work. God I miss these games.
Just wanted you to know how much I love your videos on the legacy of kain series.
I eagerly await the next installment.
great video. thx for keeping the legacy of kain alive, even if only in memory.
