@xhthepikachu Gaming Considering the texture of crab in something like this is either going to be shredded meat, or slightly rubbery, you could probably sub out crab for some other fish or chicken, maybe certain varieties of mushroom? If all else fails, imitation crab is a solidified puree of fish.
One thing that I've seen several local chinese places do that might explain the lack of visible crab in the filling is that they tend to use a blender or food processor to make the filling...it tends to leave you with a mixed puree that lacks a lot of the texture of crab, but gives you an interesting shift in taste. Bro, yr crab rangoon wontons are 🔥 Can't wait to recreate these in my test kitchen. No Asian restaurant here on island delivers this top quality as yours does. Generally, all fried wontons it's stuffed with pork or some questionable ground meat so it's a damn crying shame that it's been resorted to that. And just like you, t's all about bringing the memory alive even if you have to build it from scratch. Thank you for sharing your recipes. Much love💓
I'm sry but a lot of people go for asian restaurants because it's typically cheap UNLESS you are going to some fancy place. These days people don't want to pay premium prices for cheap food. Unless the restaurant is located where crab is easily accessible for more reasonable prices. It's just not practical for cheap restaurants to pay 20-30$ a lb (that's maybe enough for 4 orders of appetizer if you stretch it really thin) for the cheapest crab you can get to put in to an appetizer that people most likely wouldn't want to pay the price increase for. That crab there he's using costs $650
Thanks for this video!! We don't eat shellfish anymore, so I was really missing those rangoons. Loved the fried cream cheese filled wonton. Those textures are amazing. Now I feel confident enough to try and make a vegetarian version. ☺️
You could probably use lion's mane mushrooms in place of crab, because then it'll still taste like crab, but still be vegetarian. Lion's mane mushroom tastes like crab when it's cooked, but it's also really good for you... There are also other mushrooms that taste like seafood in general...
As a person who lives in Alaska (where most of the commercial crab is caught) king crab is good don’t get me wrong but.. Dungeness crab is so much tastier. It has a rich buttery body meat and is the perfect size. The flavor is rich and creamier than king crab. People always judge a crab by its size… but it’s smaller cousin is more tasty and deserves more love 😥😂
This is easily my wife’s favorite item from a Chinese restaurant. I’ll definitely be making this for her. Now if you could only formulate a soup dumpling recipe for me, we’d never have to order out again.

I am so glad you did rag goons. It gives me courage to try this. Are you doing any Air Fryer episodes? Just asking.
Rangoons are perfect done in the air fryer! >^..^

Nice
i was hoping for someone to mention him
Thanks for this video!!

I’m glad the Chinese places around me make great crab Rangoons but I’d love to try and make ‘em myself
Imagine not growing your own king crab
pagan min would be proud
I see crab meat, and my first thought is:
"Lion's Mane application!"
(I'm a mushroom grower :) )
Mmmmm moshroom

THAT CHILI SAUCE LOOKS SO GOOD!!!
I’m so happy I found this bc I’m obsessed with crab rangoons
This is easily my wife’s favorite item from a Chinese restaurant. I’ll definitely be making this for her.
Now if you could only formulate a soup dumpling recipe for me, we’d never have to order out again.
