Such a great teacher. One of the most mind altering concepts a teacher ever expressed to me about how hitting drums is that you are trying to pull sound out of the drum NOT push sound into it. Basically the same idea as how kick drum hits sound much better when you don’t bury the beater.

This is huge because “how to play hard properly” doesn’t really exist but everyone wants to talk about how no one wants to play soft. 👏🏼
IMO every electric kit player should set their drum dynamics to where you need to smash it to hear the loud hits.

Believe it or not, using a bullwhip/snakewhiphelps immensely with the idea of momentum transfer, as they were the OG "kinetic weapon", based upon effecient transfer of energy from arbitrary points A to B, which is exactly drums, inclusing the required rhythm.
