Hey Anthony you are the king of these AI boxes so i figured I'd ask you a tech question because the chances of actually getting tech support from a Chinese company are slim to none. I finally upgraded to the applepie rocket and it really is worlds above my old carplay box in terms of speed. However two issues I'm having are 1. My old AI box would display song titles on my dash however with this one it's blank. I tried changing the Bluetooth code to 1.3 from 1.5 in def options and no luck. The other issue im having is I can't seem to get notifications to work. I enabled everything in the settings but the notification panel is blank still. I like to have spotify pop up notifications when i change songs. I use a custom launcher and enabled that launcher to view notifications in the settings and no luck. I also was not getting notifications in the default launcher. Any tips on things i can try for these issues?

Love your channel Anthony as im an AI box enthusiast. Ive bounced between AI boxes and km still have stuck with the ottocast p2 pro. It Def has features that annoy me but it also has features that are game changers compared to other ai boxes. One feature that ive noticed in the p2 pro that I've yet to find in any other of these boxes is the ability to turn off the floating button and side bar navigation and get a top screen navigation which to me is the most functional. Also custom boot images which makes the AI box look stock in my lincoln. And lastly the ability to select the cars gps over the box gps. I really am hoping for a more powerful and modern box to come out to replace this p2 pro because of the little things and crashes that annoy me but no one has ticked all the boxes yet.
Thanks for watching. The p2 and p2 pro are still great adapters. Shame they didn’t quite match it with the p3. It feels makers had lost their way with ai boxes lately. It’s a balance of cost vs function to me. I don’t think any have ticked all the boxes for me. There’s always been compromise somewhere. If feels they need to listen to enthusiast and users of these things and not just pick up the next hot chipset off the shelf, layer the same old tired UI launcher on top of it, and cover it sigh colourful LEDs ☺️

And since you mentioned the P3 I agree that thing was a piece of trash not one single update since it was released
Got mine earlier this week. So far in my 24 hyundai kona everything is good. This is my 3rd ai box over the years. This is by far the best one I have ever owned. Can you test yours and see if when your reverse cam comes up soon after the rocket will freeze and then reboot. This is the only issue I have had and feel its a car issue not a box issue.
I have the the same issue with my older model ai box (6125 cpu) on my 2022 wrx. then I return it and just get a simple wireless carplay adapter , now I'm curious with the new one
I don't understand why most boxes are locked to 30fps.. This with 60fps and a cleaner interface would be a must buy.. I haven't checked on the state of AI box development over the last year, is this still the latest and greatest or anything interesting in the pipeline worth holding out for?
This is still the most fastest chip used today. It is a shame it isn’t 60fps. Some that were 60 were still part locked to 30 in apps so there weren’t even true 60. Interface can be improved with a new launcher but I’m not sure how well this adapter handles doing that. I’m not aware of any upcoming new/faster chips being used. I think the 6490 is expensive to use which is why we’ve not seen it be adopted as much as I’d hoped from other brands.
@@CarPlayLife I'm still holding out until someone releases an AI BOX with true 60 FPS. There is an OS by Lineage called OKCAROS, it can be flashed on some phones and turn it into an AI Box, it can run 60 FPS over carplay protocol. I'm not that bothered to learn how to do it. I'm surprised no one did it yet. The chip being in device especially can definitely handle it.
I bought one of these and it works very well just cant get Waze to work. The app starts but doesnt show the map. It gives me a no gps error? Any idea? Thank you.
Thanks for the detailed review. Question 1: Does the device support phone functionality directly without a connected phone via the 5G sim card? Meaning to use to call and answer phone calls. Question 2: Does the device support Google Assistant voice commands also without a connected Android Auto phone?
Sorry for the delay. It doesn’t support calling for the SIM card. The software asks for a phone to be connected to dial. Sadly the assistant also needs the phone to be connected which is odd as it just needs internet and the sim provides this. 🤷🏻♂️
Hello, I've been testing this device since today and wanted to give some feedback on the 5G functionality: We in Germany currently tend to use the 5G network, which is realized via the existing 4G network. We call this 5G non-standalone. And when using this network, "LTE" or "4G" appears in the main menu, but if you then look under settings and mobile network, 5G is actually displayed.
@CarPlayLife Hi, sorry for my late feedback. I have already tried various boxes: From Carlinkit, to the Kyebriq BRIQ3-DIVO and most recently Exploter ApplePie Rocket . The first device gave up the ghost at some point. I use a Citreon e-c4 and have experienced disconnections with all boxes. Sometimes it helped to use the plug connection with an intermediate magnetic adapter, sometimes it was also helpful to simply use a voice multisim card instead of a pure SIM card as a data tariff. I have also tried different SIM card providers and most recently I was able to use a VW ID3. This car didn't have the disconnections at all. Does anyone have any tips for me? I can't change my car now because of this.
That’s more a compatibility issue with your car system. I don’t think you can do anything via options for this to be improved other than submitting a ticket with their support and hope they address it in a future update. If it can’t be done when using wired CarPlay it won’t be possible.
You can go into dev mode on this adapter. Transition animation sale and predictive back animations is already turned off and it is already off for Remove animations under Color and motion settings. It can play 4K 60 from UA-cam but frame rate suffers, likely due to the box being locked at 30fps. Hope this helps.
Did you log in to those apps like Netflix or Spotify before you try it. I noticed you are connected directly. And for the wifi do you have to connect to hotspot every now and then? Thanks for the answers!
You have to log into your accounts for any app you download, they are not 'free' versions of the apps. You need to connect to a hotspot or supply a SIM car to the adapter to give android apps the ability to download or stream content to the adapter. I hope this helps.

Come to think of it I use to remember hearing notifications in very early ai boxes. Those running Android 9-10 but recently I don’t get those these days. So I’m thinking it might be to do with them now running Android 12 or newer and how it might be locked out or handled differently in this OS versions now 🤔
@@CarPlayLife yeah this device really is lighting compared to my old device but the lack of pop up notifications is sort of frustrating. My old ai box would "talk" to my car better where i would get song titles on my dash but for some reason this one doesn't which isn't a big deal so I figured I would circumvent that with pop up notifications for spotify but seems to be locked out like you said. I checked dev settings and don't see anything so it might be something in the code I emailed the company but we both know how that worked out lol
Most adapters like this supports this. In apps section you can set boot app which will auto launch a selected app when the adapter first boots up. This can reduce the time a little when launching CarPlay/AAuto
Is this the best device out there you’d suggest to buy at this time?any updates? Does this take micro SD cards so you can play videos to the car screen?
This has the fastest chip so far inside and should be where all these boxes should start from IMO. Then next level down is the 6125 or 6225 CPU and that performs at 1/5 of this adapter so this shows when you use it with more demanding apps. It’s just a shame its launcher is a bit dated, but you can change that with a bit of research. Yes it takes an SD and SIM. Check it at 1:30

Thank you, 🙌🏻 I’m based in the south of the UK. I know what you mean. It’s hard to get noticed on UA-cam and it gets harder by the day. So much so I’m going to change the channel slightly to make it more accepting by people and other brands, as being so car focused scares many tech brands away and people from subscribing to what they think is a niche channel. So I’ve decide to make a few changes very soon, starting in the new year. There’s ways to support the channel as I’m now full time on this. @@CarPlayLife Yea most stores list it as not compatible, however, one store listed the compatible 5g/LTE bands & there are a few compatible ones from a hardware standpoint. I guess it's a software limitation
Curious about this box… if your car gets broken into and they steal the box, will they now have access to all the apps and their logins that you have on the box? Meaning that I would have to change every single password to any app that I have on that box and let’s say my phone or tv or home pc? Thanks
Yes that’s correct and a common problem with these boxes. Back when they were Android 9 there was a way to add a passcode to the box as it launches but as they adopted a newer Android OS that got cut. Their reason was too many support ticket from people forgetting their set passcode and locking themselves out of the box 🤦🏻♂️ I would say as long as you have 2 factor set on the logins of each account you have some security there in that they can’t be altered and get you locked out of each account. But there’s still the burden of having to change everything.

It likely will but it won’t be the best experience, I’m not sure how keyboard entry would work for things like searching and logging into online accounts. You might have to use a BT remote or BT keyboard for this.
They are all mostly awful. 😢 It’s improving but many still use the vanilla launchers that come with the software they shove on these things. MMB adapters have upped this a bit and some from Ottocast are making their launchers more ‘sexy’. You can improve it with installing a different launcher and I hope to cover this in a future video.
If I had the money to burn I likely work choose this over another. Purely because the hardware underneath is so superior to other spec of Ai boxes. But then if you’re just watching UA-cam you can get back with an Ai box costing half the price of this one
@@CarPlayLife Im considering it purely because of the 5G and because I have bought the MMB 5.0, but it overheats and becomes unresponsive every one hour and I have to stop it cool it down in order to work again. So is this the only one with 5G support?
The only thing I’d worry about is 5G support from the adapter and your region. USA for example acts differently to EU/UK/JAP so the wrong adapter region may not worth correctly. So make sure it is fit for the right region you’re in for 5G function to work.
Hello, I have a question not only about this AI box but more about AI boxes in general. How do they perform with a unit that doesn't have touchscreen? Are they optimized for this situation? Because I have a 2016 Audi Q7 with MIB2 system and it doesn't have touchscreen. I control everything with the big knob on the center console. Thank you.
Most work with this knob but the issue is text input and games/apps that require touch input. A work around is a BT remote with keyboard but it’s not something that’s easy to operate whilst driving.
Another problem with this device is that even though its a android device its using the apple care play protocol to connect to my Mercedes and i can't switch it to Android Auto. Benefit of Android auto is that you can use Head up display while with Apple car play Head up display doesnt work with google maps.

I think i see the issue. It doesn't like a password other than 12345678 from the hotspot. I set it to something else it didn't want to connect, but set it to the above and it connects fine.
I just want an adapter that has no song/audio prev/next delays and fast boot time for CarPlay 😭 (My 2021 Honda accord has built in wireless Apple car play but it’s delayed and it rarely works)
Is this one still the fastest option out there or is something new cooking up around the corner. I have the Picasou 3 and it works good. Just a few things I’m having issues with it.

It is factory fitted with a music system which supports android auto (I'm an android phone user) and carplay. Both are wired only. @CarPlayLife Thanks for that mate. It's USB A. It's a little different to my WW Tiguan stereo though as it has a few more icons on the screen. It actually does work with a regular Android Auto wireless adapter though apart from I get a warning saying that Google maps isn't designed for trucks so it won't work (and it doesn't). I more wanted the Netflix app to work the screen for when I'm parked up at night.
I'm thinking of buying this. At 18:47, you mentioned that the split/independent HDMI mode is not intuitive. That's my main use case for this. How big of a problem to enable this function?
So basically rather than put some work into this. They have reused the split screen button. So to put an app onto the second screen you have to first run both apps you want to display on each screen, then tap this button which when connected to a display will put the last two apps on each screen, keep pressing this button to switch them over. But the issue is control. For example, if UA-cam is on the 2nd screen playback stops and you need a BT remote to trigger it to play again because you don’t have a means to touch the second screen. It’s all not very initiative and limiting. It needs more programming to make control of the second screen less like jumping through so many hoops to get it how you want. Don’t even think about doing all this whilst driving! 😂
i live in america and have already brought this product and have already bought a t-mobile 5g sim card with data on a montly plan and you tell me this will not work here in the u.s please repond back as soon as posible
I didn’t say anything 🤷🏻♂️ I’m not the brand or maker if you have spoke with them directly. These adapters have different carrier connecting chips inside, so this is why they have options to buy one that works in Asia, Europe and US separately. Some sellers only have one type and if the wrong box is used in a region that isn’t supported it likely won’t work. I can not say what model number is which region model. I don’t think they mark them that well other than in the software about section of the adapter. Maybe find that out with a google and reference it with the model number on yours to make sure the one you received is compatible. Hope this helps.

i finally got this in 2days ago .i live in Dallas Texas so as i said before i cant use the sim cards no big deal i just use my iphone pro max for internet with it hot spot .this has got to be the best a.i box ever i have not issues
@@CarPlayLife i have two tablet tvs in the backseat that i run an hdmi to from the carplay box.. so that i can control what passengers see from up front.. but i kinda want to have it set up so that some one in the back can control what is on the front screen.. they already play music via the radio tuner..but more than that, i play games on my phone via hdmi and ps5 controller.. i usually have to hop in the backseat to enjoy this luxury 😂 sometimes i just wanna plug in to the slightly larger screen while sitting in the driver seat. If im feeling lazy or pressed for time i just play on my phone. Playing my ios games that have controller support via hdmi with a bigger screen has been my fix for not being able to play ALL of my favorite games on the android boxes or tablets.. while they all stream ok for the most part.. gaming is sometimes limited.. i can play some things but call of duty mobile, nba 2k, and some other games are all ios exclusives.. i got COD to work for a little while on android but soon after i had to update it, i could no longer launch it. These are all small problems.. i just want the best experience with the most options.. i’ve also considered putting an actual game system in the car.. hiding the cables will be ridiculous but im sure i can manage
@CarPlayLife I purchased the same product months ago but with a different brand ( Playaibox ). unfortunately I have to say that it is a very poor quality product, as using it with a SIM inserted, if it is used in the slightest the download undergoes critical overheating which leads to blocking of the pits

I don’t have a reverse cam but when I have a min I’ll try just going into reverse as I do have a reverse sensor screen that shows.

Make sure you’ve given it all the permissions it needs in the app section. Or try remove and reinstall.

Sending mine back due to the audio pop and clicks and also it won't connect every time I start the car. I had high hopes for this box.

I'm from Europe, but why is a dedicated SIM needed, doesn't it use the phone's internet connection?
Dedicated sim is for the best friction free experience. Meaning you can run CP and Aa at the same time as giving Android apps internet also.
Any way to turn stock backup camera on when not in reverse with this device? Or even select to turn on rear view camera when your use turn signals?

Yes it does need a wired CarPlay usb port for this to work.

You can go into dev mode on this adapter. Transition animation sale and predictive back animations is already turned off and it is already off for Remove animations under Color and motion settings. It can play 4K 60 from UA-cam but frame rate suffers, likely due to the box being locked at 30fps. Hope this helps.

You have to log into your accounts for any app you download, they are not 'free' versions of the apps. You need to connect to a hotspot or supply a SIM car to the adapter to give android apps the ability to download or stream content to the adapter. I hope this helps.

Come to think of it I use to remember hearing notifications in very early ai boxes. Those running Android 9-10 but recently I don’t get those these days. So I’m thinking it might be to do with them now running Android 12 or newer and how it might be locked out or handled differently in this OS versions now 🤔
@@CarPlayLife yeah this device really is lighting compared to my old device but the lack of pop up notifications is sort of frustrating. My old ai box would "talk" to my car better where i would get song titles on my dash but for some reason this one doesn't which isn't a big deal so I figured I would circumvent that with pop up notifications for spotify but seems to be locked out like you said. I checked dev settings and don't see anything so it might be something in the code

Can you setup that when turning the ignition on the boot goes directly to CP?
Most adapters like this supports this. In apps section you can set boot app which will auto launch a selected app when the adapter first boots up. This can reduce the time a little when launching CarPlay/AAuto

This has the fastest chip so far inside and should be where all these boxes should start from IMO. Then next level down is the 6125 or 6225 CPU and that performs at 1/5 of this adapter so this shows when you use it with more demanding apps. It’s just a shame its launcher is a bit dated, but you can change that with a bit of research.

You’ll have to look for one with usb A out. I’ve yet to see any with dual usb c.

Thank you, 🙌🏻 I’m based in the south of the UK. I know what you mean. It’s hard to get noticed on UA-cam and it gets harder by the day. So much so I’m going to change the channel slightly to make it more accepting by people and other brands, as being so car focused scares many tech brands away and people from subscribing to what they think is a niche channel. So I’ve decide to make a few changes very soon, starting in the new year.

Curious about this box… if your car gets broken into and they steal the box, will they now have access to all the apps and their logins that you have on the box? Meaning that I would have to change every single password to any app that I have on that box and let’s say my phone or tv or home pc? Thanks
Yes that’s correct and a common problem with these boxes. Back when they were Android 9 there was a way to add a passcode to the box as it launches but as they adopted a newer Android OS that got cut. Their reason was too many support ticket from people forgetting their set passcode and locking themselves out of the box 🤦🏻♂️
I would say as long as you have 2 factor set on the logins of each account you have some security there in that they can’t be altered and get you locked out of each account. But there’s still the burden of having to change everything.

It likely will but it won’t be the best experience, I’m not sure how keyboard entry would work for things like searching and logging into online accounts. You might have to use a BT remote or BT keyboard for this.
Looking at buying my first AI box but that UI looks bloody awful especially considering this one is more money than some of the Otto cast alternatives

It’s improving but many still use the vanilla launchers that come with the software they shove on these things. MMB adapters have upped this a bit and some from Ottocast are making their launchers more ‘sexy’. You can improve it with installing a different launcher and I hope to cover this in a future video.

If I had the money to burn I likely work choose this over another. Purely because the hardware underneath is so superior to other spec of Ai boxes. But then if you’re just watching UA-cam you can get back with an Ai box costing half the price of this one

The only thing I’d worry about is 5G support from the adapter and your region. USA for example acts differently to EU/UK/JAP so the wrong adapter region may not worth correctly. So make sure it is fit for the right region you’re in for 5G function to work.
Hello, I have a question not only about this AI box but more about AI boxes in general. How do they perform with a unit that doesn't have touchscreen? Are they optimized for this situation? Because I have a 2016 Audi Q7 with MIB2 system and it doesn't have touchscreen. I control everything with the big knob on the center console. Thank you.
Most work with this knob but the issue is text input and games/apps that require touch input. A work around is a BT remote with keyboard but it’s not something that’s easy to operate whilst driving.
Another problem with this device is that even though its a android device its using the apple care play protocol to connect to my Mercedes and i can't switch it to Android Auto. Benefit of Android auto is that you can use Head up display while with Apple car play Head up display doesnt work with google maps.

There is no audio delay adjustment as far as I have seen. Maybe there is an Android app that can be downloaded onto it.
I currently have an iheylink on android 13 ai box but since the latest iOS update it won’t hotspot of the iPhone? Does this box hotspot of the latest iOS iPhone?
I think i see the issue. It doesn't like a password other than 12345678 from the hotspot. I set it to something else it didn't want to connect, but set it to the above and it connects fine.

If you want that. Stick with wired or play natively from the app on the adapter. Wireless uses WiFi and the delay is the trait of how it works.

As long as the port and system supports CarPlay you’re all good to go with any CarPlay 2in1 adapter or AI box for connecting your Android device.

It's a little different to my WW Tiguan stereo though as it has a few more icons on the screen. It actually does work with a regular Android Auto wireless adapter though apart from I get a warning saying that Google maps isn't designed for trucks so it won't work (and it doesn't).
I more wanted the Netflix app to work the screen for when I'm parked up at night.

I'm thinking of buying this. At 18:47, you mentioned that the split/independent HDMI mode is not intuitive. That's my main use case for this. How big of a problem to enable this function?
So basically rather than put some work into this. They have reused the split screen button. So to put an app onto the second screen you have to first run both apps you want to display on each screen, then tap this button which when connected to a display will put the last two apps on each screen, keep pressing this button to switch them over. But the issue is control. For example, if UA-cam is on the 2nd screen playback stops and you need a BT remote to trigger it to play again because you don’t have a means to touch the second screen.
It’s all not very initiative and limiting.
It needs more programming to make control of the second screen less like jumping through so many hoops to get it how you want. Don’t even think about doing all this whilst driving! 😂

These adapters have different carrier connecting chips inside, so this is why they have options to buy one that works in Asia, Europe and US separately. Some sellers only have one type and if the wrong box is used in a region that isn’t supported it likely won’t work. I can not say what model number is which region model. I don’t think they mark them that well other than in the software about section of the adapter. Maybe find that out with a google and reference it with the model number on yours to make sure the one you received is compatible.

@@CarPlayLife i have two tablet tvs in the backseat that i run an hdmi to from the carplay box.. so that i can control what passengers see from up front.. but i kinda want to have it set up so that some one in the back can control what is on the front screen.. they already play music via the radio tuner..but more than that, i play games on my phone via hdmi and ps5 controller.. i usually have to hop in the backseat to enjoy this luxury 😂 sometimes i just wanna plug in to the slightly larger screen while sitting in the driver seat. If im feeling lazy or pressed for time i just play on my phone. Playing my ios games that have controller support via hdmi with a bigger screen has been my fix for not being able to play ALL of my favorite games on the android boxes or tablets.. while they all stream ok for the most part.. gaming is sometimes limited.. i can play some things but call of duty mobile, nba 2k, and some other games are all ios exclusives.. i got COD to work for a little while on android but soon after i had to update it, i could no longer launch it. These are all small problems.. i just want the best experience with the most options.. i’ve also considered putting an actual game system in the car.. hiding the cables will be ridiculous but im sure i can manage

When I check the signal it just says ac and ax is being served so that’s 5 + 6 so no 2.4 I expect

@CarPlayLife I purchased the same product months ago but with a different brand ( Playaibox ). unfortunately I have to say that it is a very poor quality product, as using it with a SIM inserted, if it is used in the slightest the download undergoes critical overheating which leads to blocking of the pits

Your car system must have wired CarPlay for these to work on it.

Only Tesla adapters work in Teslas I think. CarlinKit makes one.
