Whilst on a visit to a local antique centre I picked up it’s amazing large plastic sphere from a reclamation yard on first glance I just knew what I had to buy for this tutorial of course like most of my tutorials you will Be able to use many of the techniques over other items including furniture and even other household ornaments such as vases and large busts. I had so much fun in creating this patina I hope you enjoy joining me on the journey If you have any questions regarding anything you see throughout the tutorial please drop me a message in the comment section and I will do my best to answer.

Your attention to details is superb. You go in such depth to create all the nuances. What a study on sandstone. You would be a great set designer.
I think that would be my dream job I would love to work on set design from period drama to Harry Potter 😊😊
Wow! You got the salty look to come through! I've seen real sandstone, and it ages just the way you depicted. You are such a great teacher, Jonathan. I really appreciate your transparency and honesty. You are just ACES!! Thank you.🤩

Just checking, is it baking powder or baking soda. Soda tends to be the substance that foams a bit, and just want to make sure I don't misinterpret your recipe.
Have some Terracotta Pots that need strengthening and remembered this Tutorial.
Hope you and Mr M are fabulous!

It's a very expressive piece ... Thank you :)
Really really beautiful. Learned a lot! Thank you.
Thank you😊❤️
I absolutely love it!
Amazing!! Looks so natural GREAT job !!
It looks quite real! Good job, Jonathon!
Fabulous as always. ❤️
You wouldn't believe it was plastic, it looks fantastic, don't the colours come out with the waxing, I think it would look amazing on an old rustic metal stand in a sheltered spot in the garden X
Even though I have wax this I’m thinking I might give it a go outside what’s the worst can happen I have to repaint it but I’m interested to know how it will the weather 😊❤️🙏
@@JonathonMarcMendesPaintedLove Amongst some pretty garden flowers out of the weather, I think it would look fantastic 😊
very interesting!! Thank you! ☺️
It was reminding of a honeydew melon-great find! Cool texture!
Wow
This technique would be great on those vases/out dated colored ceramic jugs and bowels, almost a Pottery Barn hack??? Love
Aperfect blending for authentic outcome appeal. 💯
Love the finish! It's so much fun to experiment. Great job as always.
Love the color olive you picked
Stunning result ... as usual. I'm going to give this a try to update some ceramic decor balls. If the result is only half as good as your globe I'll be very happy.
Please let me know how you get on I would love to see pictures 😊❤️🙏
Your hand is the tool...nice.
What an amazing transformation. When you pulled out the bright yellow/green I was so surprised. But it was perfect and added so much! Thank you for a yet another informative and fun video with another beautiful finished piece at the end!
Thank you very much
Amazing I love this look, I have tried something similar before and really pleased with the results
Thank you I wish that we could share pictures on here I would love to have seen 😊❤️🙏
I love your work.
This is just at the right time for me! I want to redo some lamps
I think this could look amazing on some lamp bases
Awesome 🥰
I have a couple of large plastic garden pots I want to do this with.
Suppose if outside wax won’t protect well from the elements.
Lily is so cute ❤️
We all know by now that you have an incredible eye for detail and you're a master in making fake look like the real thing. Once again a brilliant job.
Thank you very much🙏🙏🙏🙏
Amazing 🤩
I used glue today on a tray I’m doing kinda similarly & it worked great. 😀
This one is rated x
Lovely job yet again , ❤ I did 3 ceramic balls years ago with a rusty coloured chalk paint and iod moulds then white wax over it all and rubbed off then a clear coat over them and they have sat outside in full Australian weather for 3 years and still looking good if not better then when first done
That is absolutely awesome I’m really thinking this one is going to live outside 😊❤️
I was somewhat skeptical at first, and then I thought “look at who you are watching”. You have done so many magical makeovers! I really like your thoroughness and extra details you add to your projects. Thank you for another great video!
Love that you like myself are willing to get your hands “dirty”to achieve your end result⭐⭐⭐⭐😊
Love getting my hands in and I do think they are your best tool ❤️❤️
Amazing!!!!
i love you!!
😊😊😊
Hi Jonathan!!!
Thank you Jonathon for another lovely tutorial….love how this turned out and I continue to be delighted in all your creativity and sharing heart!! I love being inspired by you and def you deserve a biscuit for our ‘risking’ it!!!!! 👏🏻🫶🏻💃🏼😻
Thank you very much it’s definitely worth a try I think it’s quite interesting and could look amazing on lamp bases or terracotta pots
It simply looks awesome. Love the new techniques used and the end result is perfection. Geez I’m learning SO much from you. Thanks a bunch ❤
Absolutely all my pleasure I’m so pleased you’re learning along with me 😊😊
YOU ROCK!
Thank you! I have a antique garden statue someone painted white and will try this technique. Would love to see how you would age a garden statue. Thanks again!
A lot of people are asking about outdoors I originally did this for indoors but I think I might give it a go outdoors even though I have waxed it I may even throw some yoghurt on it too encourage the Moss
That would be an interesting experiment!
What a neat project, Jonathan - you looked like you had fun working on it, and it was fun to watch! Interesting backstory, and I just love the transformation! I’m curious - how did you come up with the idea of using baking powder as a thickener for the paint? Very cool! ❤
Well I knew what the chemical reaction would be with the baking powder it kind of Frost when it gets wet so I thought it might be quite fun to add it to wet paint it is rather cool ❤️❤️
@@JonathonMarcMendesPaintedLove If you put the heat gun on it, the baking powder would have gone crazy. Put some in cool water then in boiling water.
I like it, looks like a big cantaloupe. I do have some big garden lions and a Pan, concrete, and they look like concrete after years. Thanks.🥰
Fantastic. I've just become a Saltwash stockist so it's great seeing different ways to use it! ❤️
Beautiful as usual.😍 Thank you very much!
Thank you Jonathan ! Loved the new products and the use of them. Turned out beautiful as always. I will be trying this so wish me luck
Wishing you all the very much luck in the world just have fun😊❤️🙏
You know I often say of my fav YT furniture artists that I would watch them paint rocks - I think I just have, Jonathan! 😁
This stone effect is so much harder than it looks. I’ve attempted it with vases and art pieces and it’s easy to get wrong
The texture AND the color have to look natural or it’s a kind of a faux mess. Love the salt and crackle idea and I can attest to not wiping the wax - it buffed up immediately and I lost the whole feel of the texture😏
Great video
🙏
Thank you very very much so glad to have you here 😊
Perfect substitution for expensive faux topiary balls.
MARAVILHOSOS !!!
Thank you, Jonathan, I enjoy learning your techniques. I have a vintage claw foot tub and am wondering if I could use this technique on it. I'd love to do something very different with it.
I’d like to know the Color of those dusty rose cupboards. Love!
It’s very close to Scandinavian pink I think I added some primer red and olive
Another beautiful project thankyou can you tell me a UK stockist for Saltwash please x
Now then that’s a good question I’m pretty sure they have a retailer finder on their website I think there are one or two in the UK ❤️❤️
Love this😍 I'm always experimenting whit aditives and effects, did you know the collorchange happens becource of the accid in bakingpowder😊
Hello this is beautiful well done...
Please can you tell us the name of the reddish colour that is painted on your cupboards there behind you...and the paint thank you so much God bless.
It is Scandinavian pink mixed with a touch of primer red and olive because I was running low but it is pretty close to Scandinavian
Yes
Jonathan, if I wanted to send you something to look at , where could I please send it to? I don’t have enough confidence to show everyone, I would love to get your honest opinion ❤
You’re more than welcome to send it to one of my other channels most probably Instagram would be the best one in a message ❤️
Hi Jonathon, I realize that I'm late to this party, and sorry for that. While watching you pritz all over the sphere before the wash, was there any concern about the paint on the piece reactivating?
You used baking powder, but I didn’t hear you mention how it’s different than the salt wash?
Oh that’s a good question yes I didn’t think the baking powder is not there to thicken the paint really it was just because I know that it will react with the moisture in the paint that’s why I added another spritz of water it kind of erupts a little bit like a volcano which adds really wonderful textures it’s quite interesting 😊😊😊
