@@Lucian66642 Yeah as much as I like Gary/Nerdrotic, I cannot watch FNT because there are too many people. Guests often get side-lined on that show even though they should be the focus.
Years ago, my dad told me women love riding horses because it makes their va-jay-jay feel good. That scene of Galadriel on the horse was the perfect depiction of it.😂😂😂
10:30 it’s actually worse than you think despite people getting killed in the ice troll fight they actually left with more people than they arrived with.
Also, I object to the false statement that Galadriel’s team did nothing! Not only were they excellent meat-shields, but the sword ramp thing was critical! CRITICAL!
All I can say is if Galadriel is representative of the elves in this show, then I support Sauron and his armies. She is an Insufferable twat. And the rest of the elves are useless! Remember these should be MUCH more powerful elfs in this age, one of the most powerful killed like a DOZEN Balrogs single handledy! Let that sink in.
Real Galadriel was far more powerful than “Guyladriel”, the discount Galadriel in this series. She was a powerful enough sorceress to have supplanted Sauron if she had taken his ring from Frodo, after all. Guyladriel is such a meathead she’d try to eat the ring, probably.
@@markharc7615 These elves were written by people who either have no clue or don’t care about how Tolkien elves should be. Leaders like Galadriel or Finrod should be ultra-powerful (Finrod should have gone out cutting down scores of orcs, not going out looking like he’s wetting his pants), and even regular elves should be making moves like Legolas, not standing in place like trees waiting for trolls to smash them (of course, since there were more elves after the fight than before, maybe when they get killed two pop up in their place, so maybe that was part of the plan 😉🤣).
Very apt comment by the Little Platoon at around 39:00. Tolkien was at The Somme and took part in the assault on the Schwaben Redoubt. That is some serious life-experience, and I have no doubt that the appalling images he will have seen influenced his descriptions of Mordor.
The positioning of the icons is pretty funny. Gary looks like he's leaning on the table with his huge left arm, and Little Platoon is leaning back in Drinker's chair

@@dreioo8759 I'm supposed to 'mourn' an old multi millionaire and total stranger by diktat? How much mourning did you do when my grandmother died? See the stupidity in your statement?
Something that struck me in the rings of power was Nori’s speech to Not Sam about how she was meant to find the man on the crater. In the Two Towers, we can see Frodo turning to corruption when he tells Sam this task is mine, my own. Nori’s starting point in which she is convinced that she’s the chosen one is Frodo’s turn toward corruption. Prime is such a joke that it thinks this is somehow empowerment for females when in LotR the same attitude becomes the downfall of the protagonist
I remember the wonder and love I felt when in the silmarillion the high king of the noldor stepped foot upon middle earth. It was the first day when the sun appeared above the earth and when it first came it rose from the west, and as the noldo made their first footfalls upon middle earth flowers, for the first time, were blooming beneath their feet. Tolkien alone could make my heart lift up and alone he could make me weep bittersweet tears. It is a sore blow to see his work manhandled and marred.
Can’t wait for their take on episode 3 lol. Out of all the combinations of language the writers went with “The Ocean is Always Right” as one of the factions motto… more really inspiring stuff.
The part where Galadriel says "SNAKES, WHY DID IT HAVE TO BE SNAKES!!!" and then shoots The Invisible Swordsman after plundering and pruning the hedges of many small villages all while valiantly fighting chlamydia, the Silent Killer, made me cry.
Drinker; 'Its almost like the writers dont know what they are working with.' Thats exactly the point they dont know, care or want to know anything about it, just write every character like a modern person and if anyone dares criticize it call them an 'ist or phobe!'
Its mainly due to them trying to portray it as women can do no wrong and women are perfect etc which if this were true why wouldnt every doctor and surgeon be a woman if they never make mistakes? Then millions of lives would be saved
@@BackUp-nx2de Yeah, it's always funny when people go "well YOU aren't an expert either so shut up and also you're a poopyhead". Besides the fact that it's just an ad hominem, it's not even a valid argument to begin with. You can actually hold people to different standards because they have different responsibilities to live up to, and even if you aren't 100% qualified to do someone else's job* it is still fine to call them out when they're bad at it. (*The Drinker is probably at least 90% qualified though, given he is a published writer. Obviously novels and TV scripts aren't the exact same thing, but the core ideas of storytelling, like characterization, pacing, and consistency, still are.)
Great to see Little Platoon on here. His content is fantastic, with well-articulated arguments. I'd definitely bring him on for more videos, and suggest that members of the Toxic Brood check him out.
Most definitely. Even one chimp throwing poop at sheets of paper could come up with better scripts than these people, plus would likely have a more professional demeanor - I’ve never heard of any chimpanzees insulting their fans, after all.
57:00 The right answer is, "There is always stuff we'd change. As artists we're pursing perfection in the moment and often that changes over time" or something to that effect. "Art is never finished, it's only abandoned."
Man, imagine you time travel back to 2018 when Avengers: Infinity War was just released and GoT season 8 finished filming. You find your past self and tell them that MCU is circling the drain, Amazon with its infinite money glitch and rights to (bits of) the LOTR IP is setting mounds of cash on fire, and HBO with its GoT prequel meant to coast on the hype of GoT is actually killin' it right now. They wouldn't believe you... I know for sure I wouldn't believe me.
What really bothers me about all of this is the actress that plays Desa was complicit in allowing Amazon to use her race and gender as body armor to deflect all criticism of the show, and label anyone with an opinion they didn't like as a racist.
Amazon said it themselves _when races come together_ Yes. That is all great. The issue i personally noticed with the show is confusion. Confusion because race and the color of someone's skin is because of where they as a people grew up regionally over many, many generations. The timeline in Rings of Power tells the story of a young Earth. I imagine a darker skinned elf grew up in an entirely different region than others, but that is not the case. Everyone is already mixed together. So there is no story of _races coming together_ If they want a world where we don't see skin color for the actual reasons why they exist. That is kinda cool Write a story about that and create your own universe. To take something as old as Tolkien's work Make drastic changes like that, and don't even bother to give a proper explanation. That is what makes it confusing.
The other thing they got wrong about it, is when in LotR the 'races come together', it means Elves, Humans, Dwarfs, Halflings, and so on. Literally different races, and nothing to do with skin color.
In order to make it work, 1) no buzzcut, and 2) make him a half-elf half-haradrim who chose immortality and to be an elf over mortality. And actually do something with that. Instead, they pretend that genetics and ethnicity don't work how they do in reality.
@@ZillaTheTegu exactly, in Tolkien‘s universe race means species…not different color skin! If you race-swap a character in Tolkien it would mean making a dwarf an elf, a Hobbit a Numenorean or a wizard into a Southlander
@@lynnm6413 Careful, the writers might actually start doing that if they heard you. "Do not deadname Durin, she self-identifies as an elf woman and you will call her Elbereth from now on!" (Ow. That hurt to write...)
That's basically what I did in my old D&D world. There were Elves, Dwarves, Humans, etc with different looks, cultures and skin tones to others of the same Race based on where they lived. It makes your world unique. Diversity in storytelling is a really great thing, and can only enhance your story. Though, if you force it, it'll drag everything else down.

It's not just Viserys who commits to keeping Rhaenyra as his heir. A lot of other houses will support her claim. That's why the war is so bloody. It's not just because of the destruction the dragons cause, but because the realm was actually divided into Blacks (Rhaenyra) and Greens (Alicent/Aegon).
I never followed English royalty but I was saddened to hear that the queen is gone. She was on the throne 15 years before I was born. Hearing she was gone is a small reminder that everything comes to an end.
10:36 no I think there’s actually an additional elf that joins them after that fight scene. One video I saw showed 8 going into the troll fight then 9 in a scene after. Spontaneous generation I guess?
The part about She-Hulk that boggles my fragile mind is: How did it get past quality control. Okay, there must have been some red flags or questions marks at the conception stage and someone glossed over it. That happens. Then the scripts came out. No one said "That is not how law works". And given the inconsistencies, no one went over the completed scripts to check for that. Okay... that... can happen to. But then actors and relevant crew members receive the scripts, none of them raise their hand and say "I have a ... multiverse ... of mad questions", no one panic drunk-dials their agent and points out that this could damage their careers. Well... oka-yyyyyy Stupidity happens. But then some episodes got shot... and no one says "well THAT is crappy." and orders a healthy dose of re-shoots?hise popint Disney either assumes their audience is stupid, low-taste and worth no effort worth mentioning... or they have reached critical to terminal incompetence.
The troubling thing appears to be that DID happen. The released show is the improved version, after 2-3 months of additional work... It was supposed to come out alongside Kenobi / Thor, but was pushed back for 'improvements'

Really nice touch not to put a happy intro at such a moment. Good taste man, cheers. As you are sharing your reason not to, I will share one of the reasons I respect her: she was friends with one of my great uncles, Freddy Aalbæk, a professional singer who fled Denmark during the war as he was involved with the Danish resistance. They became good friends. He passed away watching her birthday actually. And he was a very good judge of character. Reason he did not fancy Hitler, as he used to say "a man not of his word" (refering to the fact that Hitler had this penchant for betrayal) or "oath breaker". Freddy was a classical Monarchist, may they all rest in peace.
Great episode! Hope to see Tyrone on here more often! I hope, at the end of the day, we can at the very least preserve the culture that fandom has provided the lot of us!
39:00 I think little platoon is here on something, you really need live experience to be able to write good stuff. I always wanted to be an author and watched videos with tips, and one older German author said exactly the same as Platoon.
Queen Elizabeth II was a deeply fascinating person. A veteran of the Second World War, the last monarch to reign over the British Empire, the last monarch to reign during a Churchill government, and not only the longest reigning British monarch, but the second longest reigning monarch in world history. And for those who are being arseholes about her death, remember; she'll still be remember by history centuries from now, while your graves are being shoved aside to build a new condo. 🙃
honestly she did a pretty good job as a queen for this day and age. All the political and social upheaval the world's seen in her lifetime and she managed to bring a level of calm consistency that helped keep her nation mostly stable through all of it.
‘British Empire’ that right there is why most people are assholes about her and why they couldn’t give a shit about her especially regarding colonialism.
Shadow of Mordor/War did the lore (mostly) justice and (mostly) expanded it in a way that makes me think that it could've happened this way in canon. Especially their interpretation of Celebrimbor and Sauron was awesome imo.
That part about how arcane was a struggle for that guy to put it all together and was worry as fuck to see it fall apart. Sounds like a creator that ACTUALLY CARES about his work and passion. No wonder it became such a badass hit.

This was probably my favorite open bar so far. Every single one is fantastic but I loved this cast. It was great seeing Tyrone Magnus and I’ve been really loving his reactions to Drinker. Seeing Platoon was so nice to and his commentary was phenomenal. Great work to everyone and keep up the great work.
I was 16 when the Return pf the King came out and i was graduating at the time. My english teacher knew i was a lotr fan as i often did my own sort of deep dives into the further lore of the books and changes made to the movies. She gave me a bookmark with the one ring attached to it, to make it short. I doubt anyone else growing up will ever feel that way with all the garbage hollyweird keeps shoving out.
The Little Platoon is really getting over! He makes insightful and entertaining content and I was incredibly surprised and pleased to see him on Open Bar. Good to see Tyrone Magnus as well, though he looked like he was just enjoying the show a lot of the time. No kick against him. I’d probably be the same if I were on Open Bar. Excellent episode guys!
I might be mistaken, but the durin in the show is the 3rd durin. The durin of durins bane was durin the 6th. Gimli was suprised that Moria was abandoned, which implies that it happened recently before the original trilogy, probably within 20 years.
Mauler refers to a nice part of the Telltale Walking Dead game, whic was written so good and at the end you get the percentage of other player that made the same decision like you. Awesome game.
Holbrath/Sauron is turning out to be my favorite character. He's truly interesting and interacts cleverly with the other characters. The rest of this show is utter garbage tho. Thanks Amazon!
Hopefully he’ll win and take over Not-Middle Earth, because nobody cares if discount Middle Earth loses to him (plus, he actually seems less repulsive than most of the protagonists).
Thank God for your take. I've unsubscribed and unfriended so many people today because there are conversations I just can't take part in. I ended up finally finishing Mauler's Star Wars critiques today. I have a beer at the ready and glad to sit at the "bar". Cheers from Japan!
Wow the Two Towers 20th anniversary. That means I was 6 when I was watching that in theaters. My mom was a huge fan and kept taking us over and over to the theater to watch.
Both Taika Waititi and Rian Johnson are good directors, but even good directors make mistakes. Waititi made some amazing films in New Zealand (What We Do in the Shadows, Hunt for the Wilderpeople) while Johnson directed some of the best episodes of Breaking Bad (Ozymandias). And now they both made one bad movie - doesn't mean they can't make more good stuff in the future.
@@BalrogUdun it would be good if he said anything when coming on something like this, a huge new audience who don't know who he is and he sits there in silence.
Nerdrotic, I can't thank you enough for informing me that Drew Goddard was the show runner for Daredevil. I started watching it 2 weeks ago and it's been incredible. Thank you so much!
I am so happy Little Platoon was on! Speaking of huge corporate machines. The US military wants innovators but they want people who follow all of the rules. In order to innovate, you must go against the grain. However, going against the grain to go against the grain is also bad. Return to basics, master those, then innovate/branch out. I think that’s what is wrong with the shows you are talking about. They are trying new things without mastering the basics. As Gary essentially said, learn the lore then branch out little by little.
F Another great example of creative derivative ideas: Jim Butcher, the author of the Dresden files, was challenged to write an interesting story about Pokémon and the fate of a lost roman legion. The result was an 6 volume epic high fantasy series called The codex Alera. I haven't read it, but it is high on my to-read-list and I've heard that it's really good.
My family and I started watching the MCU during Covid. There’s a lot I didn’t care for, but by Endgame we were all in. When movies started coming back to theaters we went and saw every MCU movie in the theater with generally each one being worse than the previous (except GoG III). We finally skipped The Marvels as even my 15 year old daughter realized that it was likely to be disappointing. We later watched it on Disney+ and confirmed it was boring, but we finished it. She-Hulk was so bad my daughter refused to watch any more after episode 4.
I'd have thought those Brit actors would be insulted to have to deliver such clunky English dialogue. Paper boats that look up, rocks that look down? Where do the scissors fit in? Or its as Disparu asserts, that its nothing but a paycheck to them. Didn't Sir, Ian McKellen once break down and weep when a role had him sitting alone on a sound stage surrounded by green screen and mocap sensors all over him? He said all he ever wanted was to be in theater and its come to this, then he cried. What happened to the artists?

@@EyeOfMagnus4E201 Yeah- I am real curious what exactly happened to these elves MAGIC?

I was laughing at the fact that Tyrone was reacting for basically the entire video. 😅
Al Pacino's speech from... Any given movie actually, he's always so great at delievering an emotional monologue.
Hoo-hah!!!
I believe it was the moon that rose, when Fingolfin set foot on Middle Earth?
Can’t wait for their take on episode 3 lol. Out of all the combinations of language the writers went with “The Ocean is Always Right” as one of the factions motto… more really inspiring stuff.
The part where Galadriel says "SNAKES, WHY DID IT HAVE TO BE SNAKES!!!" and then shoots The Invisible Swordsman after plundering and pruning the hedges of many small villages all while valiantly fighting chlamydia, the Silent Killer, made me cry.

Little Platoons way of articulating thoughts is quite impressive
The note to Daemon said "Brother come home and watch Rings of Power"

Elves are like hydra heads. Kill one, and two more pop up.
All the ones that died respawned, but there was a glitch, and they got an extra.
This may be the best roster for the podcast yet! Thanks for the content

39:00 I think little platoon is here on something, you really need live experience to be able to write good stuff. I always wanted to be an author and watched videos with tips, and one older German author said exactly the same as Platoon.
Who would think you need to do research and have life experience to write stories that resemble life?
Queen Elizabeth II was a deeply fascinating person. A veteran of the Second World War, the last monarch to reign over the British Empire, the last monarch to reign during a Churchill government, and not only the longest reigning British monarch, but the second longest reigning monarch in world history.
And for those who are being arseholes about her death, remember; she'll still be remember by history centuries from now, while your graves are being shoved aside to build a new condo. 🙃

To be fair, he was probably rich at the time, and these young actors are probably poor.
