    One of my favorite pieces.
When listening to a recording, it's easy to forget the talent that creates the piece.
I love watching the performance. It brings a whole other level to the experience.
    Beautiful

Every theme, motif, and transition is allowed to live and breathe and function within the compositional framework. There are so many nuanced moments that are head and shoulders above the oft-heard metronomic time-beaters, but with zero excess. The phrased line is especially felt, the climaxes especially well-prepared and executire, and all the tempi are just right. This is a conductor who, instead of imposing his personality on the music, is actually serving the music, and allowing it to live and breathe. A rare achievement for this work on the part of conductor and orchestra, and a total pleasure.

Admirable performance and Interesting interpretation (by the conductor). For example, in the 4th movement, after a relatively slower (compared with many other interpretations) beginning, the conductor slightly picked up tempo when starting the famous "Beethoven 9th" theme at 38:12 (repeated at about 41:50), which is a different approach than many other interpretations I have heard, but, in my view, equally effective. Highly recommended.

The second movement is so gorgeous it should be played separately like Mahler's Adagietto and Barber's Adagio for strings. In one brief moment it evokes Mozart's Ave Verum Corpus.

i read in tchaikovsky’s 4 volume masterful biography by david brown that the russian maestro was very critical of his romantic period contemporary brahms earlier in their careers, saying that the german’s sweeping compositions were beautifully orchestrated, but aimless. in later years, brahms asked tchaikovsky to review and comment on some of his developing work, and the russian was visibly impressed and admirable of brahms’ work. imagine the musical genius in the parlor when those two convened!
