99 Dodge RAM Locked Seat Belt Fix (2500 Cummins)

- I remove the faulty SCTM that is under the center console and rewire to make seat belts release without module.
The SCTM is a faulty part that apparently Dodge no longer makes. You can pull one from a wrecking yard and hope it works or just bypass it. The main feature was that it would lock seatbelts at a certain G-force or loss of power. However, seat belts still work without module due to normal mechanical locking mechanism.
The downside to this fix is that the fasten-seat-belt sign remains on (I think there is a fix for this as well and will address this in a different video) and you have to turn the key to the on position in order to release the belts.
This is obviously a fix at your own risk. I have not safety tested this nor am I an engineer or auto safety expert. - Спорт
Excellent video. Instructions worked perfectly on my 98 Ram 1500. Was a breeze to do. Hardest part was getting the center seat/console bolted back on. Thank you for posting.
This video was perfect I just bought my first 1998 Dodge Ram 1500 about 2 months ago and my seatbelts locked up on me also gave me motivation to clean those crevices because I haven’t since I bought it
Thanks for the helpful video!
In my case, I unplugged the seatbelt control module and simply plugged it back in after about 20 seconds, which fixed the issue (for now anyways).
Worked for my 1998.5 Dodge Cummins 24v. Thank you VERY much!
Worked for my 98.5 ram 2500
Only problem is the seatbelt ligh on my cluster.
Thank you, this video it's really helpful.
hi, will the seat belts lock up in an event of an accident (lord forbid) like they suppose to?
Got this done on a friend's truck Saturday. Only part that was confusing was the passenger seat is an orange wire with a red stripe and the drivers seat is the orange wire with the brown stripe. I tried the driver seat orange with red but didn't work which I thought may not be the right wire and was right. Everything worked great when done and taped up good to keep it all together. On the batteries always disconnect the positive first then the ground. When hooking back up positive first too. That prevents arching and messing up the computer.
Worked like charm, thanks for posting
Thanks for the video. I got this done in 20 minutes thanks to your video. Works perfectly. I really didn't want to bust open both seats and rip out the solenoids. Saved me a ton of time. Thanks again.
Worked for me thank you man good video
Thank you for sharing this video. It worked. Yay
I did this and it didn't work. I did (orange/black to the blue). And then the (black/green to the black/green). What am I doing wrong? Do I need to hook the black box back up? What do I do with the pink wire since I don't need it anymore?
I tuned off my ignition and on again and now working.
I just cut both orange and the blue wire off the module and tied them together and boom its fixed
So I tried this fix but I've got 3 wires coming from my drivers seat. Orange/black, black/green, and green/red. My seat belt light even goes out on the dash but I still can't release the seatbelts. Any suggestions?
Any idea how to fix a seatbelt that won’t roll back up?
So can this be done without removing console? I know you said you did it just for extra room
I believe the seat belt control module sends a signal to the air bag control module. Will the air bags go off in event of an accident?
When it doesn't fix the problem. Pull the plastic ring and drill holes just below the seat belt roller. Use a screwdriver and break off the solenoid. This will release the seat belt roller. But the seat belt still works.
i just did this fix. it unlocked my passenger front and both rear seat belts. driver was still locked. also, the rear ones do not lock at all now when you pull on the belt fast. to fix the driver seat i ended up pulling off the seat cover, and removing the servo motor from the seat belt . also a pretty easy fix. hope this helps.. 98 dodge ram 2500 v10
Cory R did you have leather seats or cloth? I’m having the same problem and did the fix in this video but only did the pass side. I’ve got leather and can’t find a way to take the cover off
can not see the repair bad picture,
Mine lock up just fine. They lock up like a normal mechanical seatbelt. They just do not lock up when you step on the brake.
Hi, what about seat belt light on the dash board?
Seatbelts light still on
Am about to change module, when the belts locked l lost my interior lights the pink wire has no power and cannot read codes from the computer.
Question for you. Did you eliminate the black box and just have the hard wired connections left there?
Yes
God bless you.
thank you!
Great share dude...A++×
something is draining my battery's while the truck is sitting and only the drivers side seat belt is locked. Passenger side is free. Would I still do this? help please
+Jake Brey Not an expert but if it is the solenoid in the seat pulling from the battery, this will solve the problem. If it is something else, obviously it won't work.
+Jesse Kinsman ok ill try it tonight. blue to both oranges & reds and all black and greens together for ground? thanks man
I just made a pigtail and jumped the blue to the R/B and R/O at the connector so I didn't have take apart the connector or cut any wires
Paul Gawrych do you happen to have a picture?
You may not see this but thanks, works perfect, clean and fast
Don't do this!!!
What happens if you get into an accident and the module doesn't make the seat belts lock??
You go through the windshield!!
Great fix!!
Actually, the belts will still work in an accident. That is a different mechanism. It should also be noted that one does not need to cut any wires. You can get this done by simply putting jumper wires on the control module connector.
The pyro sensor in the seat belt pretensioner could be bad. Most likely need to replace the seat belt pretensioner. You can buy a used one on www.eBay.com
or send your seat belt for repair at www.myairbags.com
