No matter how many similarities there are between Japan and China, one difference stands up like a sore thumb: Japan wilted under the US hegemony.

More and more affordable cars in the market, which is a good news for all consumers.
Not only in EV, China is also successful in the tunnel boring machines which they take up 70% of the world market. Two boys' fights from Germany + $ 1000 usd /day each + 5 star hotel and meals and only work 9 to 5 + no weekends. So,the Chinese government was pissed.....now you know the rest of the story. New Chinese TBM have 7/24 5g online service to its Head Quarter Engineering Dept monitoring each operating machine data.

Fintl handled some tough questions with great finesse. Germany used to be a leader intechnology now VW is partnering with XPENG where XPENG supplies the technology. The reply was we have realize that China is no longer a copy cat, just as Japan stopped being a copy cat in terms of technology. We should welcome a win-win collaboration. The americans feel very uncomfortable, when/if they are not the conquerers and the winners while those they conquered are destroyed. The win-lose option is the only one they know exists. Competition is good. Foreign competition forces the local ones to innovate, reduce costs in order to be competitive or be out of business. All these benefit the consumers who can do with better quality and more affordable reasonably -priced products. I really don't care much about protecting the domestic market (that's for inefficient companies and govt to worry) if such competition means I get to enjoy lower prices and more options! Also EV cars and even driverless transportation like buses have been in China for quite some years. I was in China some years ago and was amazed by how fast they have leapfrogged in certain areas. It's not that China is catching up in EV, just that German is getting complacent and lagging behind without the foreign competition from overseas ... until now.

Most of the focus if on manufacturers. Missing here is the efficiency or initiatives by policymaker and government of the country to enhance or support the ecosystem needed for EV application. It is not necessarily stopping ICE and call everyone jump into EV. They need time but China did it faster and started way earlier.
Just your typical anti-China story from DW. Carry on.
If you're serious, buy a plane ticket to China, with over 50% tram coverage in first-tier cities, and a lot of brands to choose from between $30,000 and $50,000 that sell very well. Tesla and BYD are starting to turn a profit after a long period of losses. Quality is another topic, go look at sales of electric buses and electric cabs. Germany has the best fuel cars, but the world change accelerated after Germany lost its pipeline. Germany has lost cheap energy, and to give up the partnership is to give up decades of lucrative markets. German and Chinese car companies have different strengths and it is still not too late to cooperate.

Jolly good! We have more advanced technologies and cost effective EVs in the market. 👍
Europeen car market, specialy for ev, is really open to import, as the ev credit market is based on sale product, not on production, so there is governement money stimulus to import ev from china
EV's and cars in general are wayyyy overpriced. Bring on the competition to bring the prices down!
A lot can be said, but I'll leave it at: There is exactly 0% (zero) room for surprise in these developments. In fact I'm inclined to question what's wrong with people's heads who are surprised.
It should b china+eu against tesla
German manufacturers (3 top positions ) are battling TESLA for the 1st spot..... what kind of reporting is this??
Comment section of medieval Europe. 🤣🤣🤣
