As for racism in my humble opinion YES there is, which doesn't mean it's necessarily against someone like you. Because after all you're from the US and the US are generally considered cool and interesting. Racism here is mostly against natives and other locals with a darker skin tone especially if they're poor. Not all over the place but it exists. BTW the use of the word "negro" here, literally "black," has no connotations by default but it all depends on context. We can call that a friend and it will be totally acceptable, even implying love. Then there's also the derogatory form, which can be the word by itself or with something explicit added. That's racist.

You must try our pizza (better on Corrientes Avenue), there are a lot of "pizzerías" like Güerrin, Banchero, Las Cuartetas. You can eat "empanadas" everywhere (best at La Americana). And of course our meat, Try "Asado" or "Bife de chirizo"

We're starting our spring season, so the weather will be confortable, cold at night but hotter on the day, and maybe with some rainy days. Anyway, in those days Buenos Aires has his own mistics. I'm from a city 170 kms away from Buenos Aires, called Chivilcoy, but when I travel to there, I like to go to the Palermo Forest or drive in the city when everybody goes away on the weekends. @@LORDWILLIAMSON_ to put it short it's due to high demand of dollars by locals, not enough dollars in our central bank and a government not yielding in letting it float to protect salaries and imports for production, the result is high restriction in dollar availability in the official market (at official rate) and informal supply at unofficial high rate which is the market where you got your pesos. It's not taking advantage, this is how things work currently and ultimately you're bringing money. And the government is not criminalizing unofficial exchange.

@@LORDWILLIAMSON_ I'm no expert but as I understand it, this rate gap actually hurts in different ways but it's considered a lesser evil given the macro economic situation. The current administration wants to fix it but thinks that liberating the rate will hurt more. What they're trying to do now is to reduce on unnecessary imports and maximize exports, this should give the central bank more dollars ergo more power to push the unofficial rate down. Next year we have presidential elections. If the other party wins they might liberate the rate and lift exchange restrictions, they did it before, but this also has consequences as in reserves being depleted, even more inflation, desperate deals with the IMF... Will we get back to "normal"? Hopefully we'll eventually figure it out and not at the cost of more millions falling into poverty.
