Add to that he melody that Mick and Keith came up with for the vocal line (really a variation of Nicky's line), and it's golden. A real treat that stands out among all their work.
I fail to see any evidence this was devised by Hopkins and Jones. There were obviously main chords already set up. No doubt about the fact that Nicky and Brian were huge talents a contributed immensely. But one of the best examples of how they developed a song in the studio are Sympathy sessions.
I once accidentally cut a headphone wire - I still listened to " Their Satanic Majesties...." CD thru one speaker. Nicky Hopkins keyboards were heard only!!! It was out of this world!!! BTW that's Mr John Paul Jones arranging string section of this song and " 2000 Light Years From Home" ( the singles are shorter.) The Stones must like the number 2000 ( "2000 Man"....) can't believe KISS covered it! Hey thanx whoever posted this...

My favorite Charlie era. Love his more adventurous drumming circa 66-68. After that, became more of the timekeeper that people lionize - which is fine, but I like the Charlie who was a little more adventurous. However, I could say that about the Stones as a whole; I like them most from about 66-68.

I read somewhere that in an interview, Mick said not to ask him about Paul and John recording with them for TSMR sessions because they were signed with competing lables. But still, it proves the guys were friendly and the Beatles were really into the Stones music.
Nicky could play a piano in a dark room, high as a kite and never miss a note. He was a Maestro and he turned every song he touched in a jewel. A lot of bands had the luck to have him on a record, but sadly a lot them didn’t give him his fair share of the booty

People forget that it was Brian who brought Nicky into the Stones circle. Nicky worked with Brian on the movie soundtrack degree of murder that Brian composed at the start of 67. His first stones work was later in the summer of 67 with satanic majesties

Brian did indeed do some great stuff with mellotron. The supposed difficulty of playing one is overstated though imo. Nothing especially hard about playing them, especially for someone trained on piano, which Brian was. Lots of people of varing levels of ability have and do play mellotrons. I say this having played MK2, M400 and MKV mellotrons.

On the darker side, it is a stark contrust to stupidization and degradation of a white man civilization we are wtnessing these days in every single way of our lives. According to book The Great British Recording Studios - Howard Massey, Olympic had Pye solid state compressors and a custom built Clive Green optical compressor. The book is ace, btw. 👍🏼
JPJ's arranged strings for the completed backing track of She's A Rainbow. That was JPJ's only involvement with the Their Satanic Majesties Request album. Rumours saying otherwise are complete nonsense.

No electric guitar. This is all live, no overdubs, everyone playing at same time.
