Thanks all - first new small engine I've ever touched in my life, didn't even realize there was a oil pressure cut off switch. Disco'd, and we're good to go! Thank you!
Glad you guys got it fixed. When he's ready for more power/performance look into a stage 1 kit (worth a total of about 9hp) and then maybe a live axel (solid axel, drives both wheels) and a 30 series CVT. Looking forward to more videos from you and your son.
Yeah, I got to thinking about the oil pressure cut off switch as the Predator engine I got a couple of years ago had one & wondered if that might have been the problem. So far I've had good luck with the Predator engine I have.
What awesome little dudes..... 1 doing an engine swap.... And 1 finding and digging up treasure 👍👍👍 Don't you have at least 1 more tin lid Derek?.... Sorry I don't remember, I haven't seen them all in a while, but I'm pretty sure you have 3 or 4 smaller humans running loose out there somewhere. Idk. My point is, it would be great to hear an update on what the others are up to as well, if they don't mind. 👍👊
Cars and cameras youtube channel has a bunch of great how to videos with these exact same engines going onto go-karts.. Hope this helps buddy love the videos you do!!
Great video indeed!. If parents did more cool stuff with their kids, they would be much more interested in things around them! Most are zombies in front of a TV and have no interest
Unhook the oil level and sensor on go-karts when you go around turns the oil moves and it will make the go-kart motor shut off I run the predator motors on all my go-karts if you don't unhook the oil level you will have trouble when you go around the corners
I was dying for Bentley to say, “Get outta there”, or, “Help me understand”, when he was trying to boot off the wheels! The use of “a kid” instead of “a guy” was just precious. Loving the channel little dude good luck with it 👍🤞
Haha. Only a few minutes into it but can't wait to hear "a kid" haha. Love seeing dad and son do projects especially with the little human doing so much work and learning. I did love hearing him saying "cheek poker" 🤣🤣🤣🤣
This is an example of what America is supposed to be. Pops taking time with the boy, guiding him on the path to manhood.. We have lost this kinda thing in this country, puttering around in the garage on a Saturday with Pops learning stuff. Thanks for this video, totally warmed my heart.
Great job little guy! He's gonna take your job Derek. Loved it when he said "A kid's gonna get on the tractor." That was awesome. Bet y'all are super proud.
The ear to ear grin on Bently's face when Derrick was revving the engine and the tire was spinning said it all. Doing the axle swap so both rear tires drive is the next upgrade. And yes on doing the engine rebuild. You I'll learn a lot.
I really like your engine swap video. You have already picked up some of your dad’s habits so it appears you pay attention to him. I would like to see you rebuild the old engine. I am 64 years old and will always remember to time in the garage with my dad. Please continue to share your videos.
Definitely love the way Bently is doin' it! With that much HP's a live axle and disk brake should be high on the get list. My first go cart had a Honda 90 WITH the shifter hooked up and it would fly!
VERY WELL DONE YOUNG MAN! Build that engine as soon as you can. I rebuilt my first one when I was 9. I'm 62 now. I know you have the money for the new parts now. I just watched your family's "webathon" mailbag and saw where people gave ya'll some cash for just such things. Since you're going to be working on a bunch of small engine stuff you should order you a set screw kit, Key stock kit for things like that clutch, rolled pin kit, QUALITY electrical crimps(NOT THE JUNK FROM THE AUTO PARTS STORE). Spring kits a good to have as well but not as important. ALWAYS save your old bolts, nuts, screws and various other hardware. I keep all my scrap bolts in plastic coffee jugs sorted in some manner, then nuts, then machined screws then metal or wood screws. It is extremely gratifying when you're working on something and come to a place where you need a certain piece of hardware and find it in the bolt bucket, for example. Well done indeed!
Seeins how a guy is teachin' his offspring the ways of all things motorized and mechanical brings a smile to my face. Just great! They won't be tiny humans for very long, so spending quality time with 'em now is awesome. Thanks, Derek!
@@cowboyassass1n missed a lot during the formative years with my girls because I was always working...sure regret it now that they are pretty much grown and gone.
Parents taking time to teach they're kids the basics of mechanical shit is now a fleeting idea that soon will be gone. I had to show my neighbor's 21 year old son how to write a check the other day ! What have we donw ? !
My 9 year old daughter has a doodle bug with a 3hp engine. We just removed the governor and put a header and a Mikuni style carburetor and intake on it. We still need to put it back on the bike and and hook up the throttle but it’s close we may need to re-jet the carb to get it right. Hopefully not.
Awesome, a kid that wants to get things done and get his hands dirty who also listens. So much young talent goes unseen without a mentor, you are both (all) lucky you share interests.
Hey fellers, I'm an old Motor City go-kart guy and amateur gearhead and I think the channel is great. Been watching for some time now. THE LOW OIL SHUTOFF SENSOR IN THE CRANKCASE SHUTS THE MOTOR OFF WHENEVER IT DETECTS AN (IMAGINARY) OIL SHORTAGE AS THE OIL SPLASHES AROUND INSIDE UNDER "TRACK" CONDITIONS ( I THINK ) YOU CAN DISCONNECT IT'S WIRE AT THE ON/OFF SWITCH OR OPEN THE ENGINE AND REMOVE THE SENSOR COMPLETELY. JUST MAKE SURE THE OIL IS FULL EVERY TIME YOU RUN IT AND "IT'LL BE FINE...". Derek, thanks for the laughs and lessons, the kids are your true treasure so enjoy them every chance you get.
What happened to the Father-Son Project ? I'm 60 now and when I was in Junior High and Highschool, EVERY father that had a son had some kind of project. My father and I had a Cessna 150 rebuild/modification to a 152, that just 2 years later, I would get my pilots license in. My father was a full commercial pilot. For my son, it was a Piper Aztec that he would later become a commercial pilot in after getting his private license in a modified Cessna 152.
"A kid's gonna go ahead and use the tractor as a hoist to pick the go cart up" Love it. Keep on learnin things young feller. Glad you used safety glasses when you were running that cheek poker 3000. Keep the content coming.
His first person narrations are definitely a gift from the old man. 😁✌️His little hand pointing things out to us is identical to his Pop. Derek's influences on him are shining through. ✌️😁❤️
"Well I'll be dipped". I had no idea this channel existed. Super pumped about. Great job Bentley. Great job! You on your way young man. Can't wait to see more. Keep up the good work. 😊😊😊😊😊😊😊😊😊
"A kids going to go ahead and use the tractor as a hoist" , my little friend i just lost it. You are awesome and you old man is truly a legend. I cant wait for the grandkids to get older so I can do projects with them. Merry Christmas and Happy New Year.
Bentley if you keep making videos like this some day someone is going to say, you know Bentley’s dad has a channel too”. Very good work and that go cart is fast now! I would really enjoy watching you rebuild that older engine.
Ssooo glade Derek takes the time to teach his son and njot let the U.S. Government do it for him, just like MOST of the Nuclear families will do today.
You kids are lucky to have a dad like Derek and I love that he lets you guys learn how to fix your own vehicles by you self instead of doing it for you. He has set you up with future skills to be independent when it comes to mechanical problems
A young man getting an engine for his go kart for Christmas that he is going to pretty much install himself? I just got a little teary eyed. Almost doubling the horsepower? That makes me smile. The use of foot power, percussive maintenance to remove the tires/wheels brought back memories.
Bentley - great swap ! Idea for why the engine is stopping when hitting a bump - the low oil level sender unit on these are sensitive. Try either disconnecting that “safety” device - or overfill the oil a bit so the sender is always in the oil. Cheers. !
I was going to say the same . I had to disconnect the one on my generator i put on my bus camper to run it for the AC . while driving . there wicked sensitive.
Lil sir you had me cheesing like a lil kid again ! I love to watch you do this and a huge shout out to dad too let you do this as a dad of 3 I know he wanted to step in and help you with the amazing painting job you did ! I'm so proud of you young man don't stop show us more !
Nice work Bentley with the tractor getting the cart lifted and wheels taken off prepping for paint great work ethic your going Places Kiddo Never give up and it never hurts to ask for help and learn as much As you can
It’s great to see a Dad and his boys doing things together! And to see the teacher showing them how things work. Great stuff you are giving us! Thank you!
Definitely like dad like son. Love these videos, hope you and the boys make more of these little grip garage episodes. Love to hear Brently's take on things these days. Keep up the great dad stuff Derek your an inspiration to kiddos everywhere.
I love this. What you're doing with your son is the same as my Dad did with me, only with Ham Radio. I was 9 years old in 1961 and took my novice license exam, then my General when I was 10. This included Morse Code. Building radios and spending time with Dad was probably the best memories I have of him. This time with your sons is priceless. I listened to this whole video and this young man never once wanted to be dipped. lol
Every thing your family does is gold! Bentley, has definitely been around the block, already when it comes to mechanical stuff. Good to see a young man interested in doing anything other then video games! Your a great dad Derek! Keep up the great work!
I see it's been covered but I also think bypassing the low oil switch will stop the stalls. Little dude you have an awesome dad, don't take that for granted. Loved the episode and can't wait to see you rebuild that engine.
Derrick, what a great channel. Did a lot of this type thing with both my boys. Miss those times. Great to see another young man getting into how things work. Fantastic times with the kids.
Gosh, i LOVE this video/channel! Its like watching myself as a little kid all over again. Ecept this little guy has his Dad's help and support. Just wonderful!
Great job Little Grip! What a fun project for you to do! You have a great Dad to advice you! Santa was mighty generous as well, to bring you a brand spanky new engine, with so much power to boot! Have fun sir!
I don't believe that my heart has EVER swelled as much as while watching this video! Thank you Bieri's one and all!! I'm looking forward to much enjoyment from your three (so far) channels! Hugs
It's great to see you and your son doing mechanical work together. He's definetly a chip off the old block, even down to talking on camera. There's a future for your son, doing whatever he chooses to do. Great job Derek and Mrs Derek for parenting the way it was done years ago, which I believe is the correct way. At 72 yrs. of youngness, I've seen plenty, and find it refreshing to see someone allow their child grow into his own. Woo hoo, keep it up bro, gives me faith in the future after all. 😎😉💯👍
Great job on the swap Bentley, and big thumbs up to Dad for lending a hand. Might be an idea to see if the pull start can be rotated to move it out from behind the seat so you can pull straight up. Definitely rebuild the old engine. Good for learning the basics and you'll find that engines, small or large, have a lot in common.
Awesome job Bentley! She's a ripper now. You and dad should look into converting the rear axle to a solid axle to get power to both wheels. Very cool to see Bradley's wheel find in the yard from his metal detector as well.
Great Job Bentley !!!! Mom and Dad raising you right!!! Keep the videos coming little buddy, doing things as a family, is were its at!! Making memories to look back on, very important .
Sometimes a kid just needs a hand from a feller. Great work, love the upgrades, makes for a tight rig. Derek love the bond with the little unit and all things mechanical and fast. Couple of Stars and Stripes would look fashionable.
Oh man this is awesome! I think with a new axle set up in the back to get both those rear wheels spinning it might make a world of difference. Have fun!
Great job "Little Grip"!! It's nice to see kids enjoying the outside & learning how work on stuff. Keep up the good work guys. Can't wait to see what's next..
This takes me back to when I was a kid your age. Learning how to mechanic on riding lawnmowers. Keep it up!!!! This feller knows what he is talking about good video young sir. Can't wait to see more out of little grip garage.
I'm 29, this reminds me of tinkering around with my old riding mowers when I was younger! I'm genuinely hoping there's gonna be some small engine builds in the future. Keep on wrenching
You're blessed friend. A good father isn't common in my world...you've already got a great head start on life. Well done on your first new engine install 👏
Hey what's up little guy. You need to disconnect the oil sensor, it's made to shut the engine off if the oil sloshes around by bouncing around and going around turns. It's the little silver box next to the kill switch, just cut the wires and you're good to go 👍🏻
Love the video! My son watched every second! If y'all disconnect the yellow wire on the front of the engine, it won't cut off when you go on sharp turns or bumps. That is the oil cutoff sensor.
Thanks for the trip down memory lane. My dad and I spent many hours working on a similar gocart back in the 80s. My time was split equally between riding, pushing, and fixing. All of it laid the foundation for a love of anything with a motor and I am so grateful to my father for instilling me with the knowledge and skills. It warms my heart to see a father and son share in this time together.
That extra h.p. just took off, got a chuckle when he took off, when I was a kid my dad, brother and me built a three wheeler out of an old kids cart we had, it was raining and I had a rain hat on it spun around my head and I rapped it around a tree, this kid brought up old good times the building and playing, I'm now 76 thanks for you videos .
awesome stuff, Derek, the memories you're making with your boys will last them a lifetime. I still remember all the cool stuff I did with my dad as a kid.
Delete the governor and go directly to the throttle plate. Also move you kill switch to where you can reach it. You can rotate the pull cord housing so that the cord points out the back. this adds an extra safety because now you're standing behind a sudden launch. As someone else mentioned if you disconnect the low oil switch for a test ride you may find that's your problem. A half quart extra oil might cure that problem. Can't wait to see the engine rebuild series.
Awesome, a new video from Bentley. It's great to see kids working on mechanical stuff. He's also very well spoken for a kid his age.👍 Hope you and your brothers got lots of cool stuff for Christmas.
This was awesome, we have an old racing kart hanging on the shop wall, this video may have been the push we needed to re power it and have some fun. Great job Bentley
Awesome job . I started on gokart working when I was 12 and race them for about 17 years and now I have a couple of drag cars . To see this young man working and trying to learn how to work on kart made my day . START THEM YOUNG... p.s. your going to need a keyway for the clutch
Been watching your vice grip garage channel for a little while now...absolutely love what you do...im a mechanic myself and enjoy your videos....just came across your son's channel this morning...seeing you too work together brought back alot of good memories of the days I spent with my son in our garage...its great to see fathers working with their sons...keep up the great work kiddo and looking forward to more videos is the future....God Bless
That Smile on his face when that engine started up is priceless. And I see a Live axle upgrade coming soon. as for the cutting off trouble try to set the carb float down just a little. what's going on is when he hits a bump the float is diving down and letting gas in when it don't need it so it's flooding the engine out. if you set the float down some that should give it room in the carb for the extra fuel and no flood the engine. Be a good place to start. Love the video and look forward to the next one
This brought back great memories of my first go cart when I was about his age. You’re doing a great job Bentley! Best video I’ve seen on UA-cam all day!
Merry belated Christmas and Happy New Year, Bentley. Your projects inspire my boy to work on his kart. Tinkering with dad is a big deal for a father. Glad you're keeping up the vice grip culture.
Young Bentley is one helluva apprentice. Vice Grip Garage dynasty in the making. Enjoy watching all your videos and learned success. Keep up the great work guys! Better than anything on TV & plenty of smiles too. Happy 2022.
Awesome... What an awesome Dad you have... Derek - You are what a father should be... So nice to see your youngsters share the love you have for cars, motors and power. Great Job on the Engine Swap! Have DOUBLE the fun with that 6HP engine... Be Safe... Hope to see more videos from the youngsters! I wasn't lucky to have any sons, girls don't like cars & motors - they're more into home decor and art...
Great work Bentley! I'm sorry to admit that my favorite part (I enjoyed your work the whole way though) was when you said "a kid's gonna use the tractor for a shop lift". That almost made me fall out of my chair! Ripp'n off your dad's humor is just too much, perfect.
Thanks all - first new small engine I've ever touched in my life, didn't even realize there was a oil pressure cut off switch. Disco'd, and we're good to go! Thank you!
Great video with your boys!

I do, but mine is geared towards Ammunition reloading and gun cleaning, gun building.
Derek, you are a great example of what a father should be. Teaching them youngens the ins and outs of life itself is a wonderful thing.
Totally agree 👍
Agree!
Loving the channel little dude good luck with it 👍🤞
When Bently raised the go kart for painting and jerked up on the lift, I was waiting for "Way too much", "Perfect".
I caught that too, it was hilarious. I was waiting for him to say "I wonder what (some celebrity) is doing right now!🤣🤣
Haha. Only a few minutes into it but can't wait to hear "a kid" haha. Love seeing dad and son do projects especially with the little human doing so much work and learning.
I did love hearing him saying "cheek poker" 🤣🤣🤣🤣
I literally paused it right before he said "a kid" and lifted the cart.🤣

Every thing your family does is gold! Bentley, has definitely been around the block, already when it comes to mechanical stuff. Good to see a young man interested in doing anything other then video games! Your a great dad Derek! Keep up the great work!
Great job man. He’ll remember these moments for the rest of his life
I see it's been covered but I also think bypassing the low oil switch will stop the stalls.
Once he gets over his nervousness and starts having fun with it, hos personality is going to shine. Good job young man!
Edit your typo, bro.
Great job Little Grip! What a fun project for you to do! You have a great Dad to advice you! Santa was mighty generous as well, to bring you a brand spanky new engine, with so much power to boot! Have fun sir!
I recommend a torque converter and welding the axle so both wheels spin. Makes a big difference!! Great job!!
18:22 Epic burnout! I'm sure there will be many more. Great job Ben!
Great Job Bentley !!!! Mom and Dad raising you right!!! Keep the videos coming little buddy, doing things as a family, is were its at!! Making memories to look back on, very important .
I had no idea about this channel! Great job Bentley! You're gonna make a good mechanic Buddy.
Can't wait to see the mods in the future.. Be sure to let Pops know there are Stage 1 - 4 kits for that Predator engine :)
Sometimes a kid just needs a hand from a feller. Great work, love the upgrades, makes for a tight rig. Derek love the bond with the little unit and all things mechanical and fast. Couple of Stars and Stripes would look fashionable.
I’m so glad to see a young man learning how to do things! I’m also glad to see his dad’s helping him out. Kudos Derek!!!
It's the little silver box next to the kill switch, just cut the wires and you're good to go 👍🏻
The education Dad is giving here is easily equal to what he is getting in school, but the memories and bonding go so far beyond that. SIMPLY A JOY.
When that thing left a strip on the driveway I lost it 🤣🤣🤣🤣
Nice job, looks like it’s fun to drive! I think rebuilding the old engine would be a great project.
Agreed, just make sure to actually get rid of the governor internally so it doesn't blow apart and cause major engine failure.
Awesome, a new video from Bentley.
It's great to see kids working on mechanical stuff. He's also very well spoken for a kid his age.👍
Hope you and your brothers got lots of cool stuff for Christmas.
A kid did an awesome job on that cart! You'll be a pro in no time! Warms the heart seeing this.
This was awesome, we have an old racing kart hanging on the shop wall, this video may have been the push we needed to re power it and have some fun. Great job Bentley
This is the best. Derek, you’re great. You guys are doing a bang up job at this babysitting for life thing.
Excellent job on the engine swap, Bentley!
Definitely do the rebuild on the old engine. I look forward to seeing that!
Enjoyed this episode. I would like to see more.
Let’s see little man rebuild that 2hp! A great hobby/career your learning little dude, keep it up!
you guyz are great!! unplug the oil switch and get a comet clutch
Great job! Love the smile when the engine first starts. The smile of success. I look forward to the engine rebuild.
Young Bentley is one helluva apprentice. Vice Grip Garage dynasty in the making. Enjoy watching all your videos and learned success. Keep up the great work guys! Better than anything on TV & plenty of smiles too. Happy 2022.
You go little man. Keep doing what you're doing and you'll do just fine.
