    This is so helpful to know. As a single person starting classes to become a foster parent, it’s one of my greatest fears. Thank you for sharing!!

    I am so happy I found your channel! I am a single 23 y/o and I have always had such a passion for foster care. I would love to start soon, but I am concerned with being able to work and find the needed child care.

    ugh so sorry for your experience! I can relate to a lot of this...its so hard to be proactive when we don't know all of the "normal" things about our kids :/ like their age and gender before we get them haha. I remember that I "picked" a daycare before getting licensed to use but then it all depended on what call I got as to if I would even use them!

      Yes! Nothing ever goes as planned. Foster care is always an adventure for sure!

    You’re in a great position to have a small in home daycare yourself! You could also just host a nanny share in your own home? I quit being a childcare provider at a center because it such a exploitation filled sector, with ratios that are too high, while you’re making $10/hr.

      Actually ou aren't able to have a licensed in-home daycare and be a licenses foster home at the same time.

    Thank you so much for this video! I've been researching becoming a foster parent like crazy (going to the information session/orientation on May 14!) and daycare was one of the things I was most worried about. Every center in my area has waitlists so its worrisome to me what will happen when I get a placement. I'm just hoping for the best that there will be a spot somewhere.

      Aw, thank you so much! I highly recommend having a few back up people to be able to watch your placement the first few weeks while you get daycare figured out.

    I get a higher board rate for being a full time working foster mom - which ends up just covering daycare for my little one (and when they go home does not cover that week's daycare cost fully). I have been fortunate that the daycare I decided to use is working with me, since they have a policy of charging two full weeks for withdrawing a child without two weeks notice - I was sweating a bit on my first placement before the center director told me they would wave it for me because I knew that child would only be going for a few weeks and was having visions of paying $500 out of pocket every few months as children came and went. Right now I pretty much just have an agreement with the center director my kids will go there - and I keep her in the loop as I wait on placements (including if there are ages I would not be able to get into that daycare). It's worked well so far.
    Of course this placement took a week to get enrolled (medical form needed and couldn't get into the pediatrician till the end of the first week) and we're at a month where we haven't made it to a full week to daycare - mostly for being sick! Finding alternate care for sick kids is hard! Everyone I know has kids and doesn't want their own littles sick! (Besides I hate leaving them with someone else especially while they're sick).
    I also hope to one day have a job that I can at least put in a few hours from home when a child is sick because it's always on the days/weeks I need to get stuff done at work that daycare calls to say they think your babe has pink eye and you need to come pick them up!
    Btw, did you know you can enroll unvaccinated kids in daycare... they can't discriminate against them.

      Thank you so much for sharing your story! The first daycare my little guy attended would not let him attend until he had at least the basic vaccinations

    I wouldn't give a SSN of a foster child to a school for privacy reasons. Sometimes they put things on the application but if you push back they don't make you do it. Check your local laws re whether that is legal.

    • @AutumnRene
      @AutumnRene  5 років тому

      I needed the SSN to access medical records to give to the school, not to give to the school directly. Sorry if I wasn't clear about that. Thanks for watching!

    This is so cool! Thank you for sharing and helping out future foster families. My husband and I are currently completing our foster care trainings and we also live in north Texas! Daycare is something I do worry about and want to make sure I prepare in advance as much as I can. Are you familiar with Child Care Associates/Head Start daycare subsidies? My husband works full time and I am a full time grad student, so we don’t qualify for CCMS. Just thought I would reach out and see if you had any advice on this. Thank you!

    • @AutumnRene
      @AutumnRene  2 роки тому +1

      Headstart is a fantastic program - foster children do qualify to attend. However, there is sometimes a waiting list. As a full time grad student, you may just need to pay for a part-time babysitter the times you are in class

      @@AutumnRene thank you! Also, do you know if any foster care support groups for families living in North Texas? I would love to get connected with other foster/adoptive mommas.

    Will CPS (or who ever it is) pay that someone else?

    • @AutumnRene
      @AutumnRene  3 роки тому

      In the state of Texas, CPS will cover only daycare center who accept CCMS (subsidy) payments. They pay the provider directly, but it takes a few weeks to get set up so you pay out of pocket initially. All other child care is not covered and you will not be reimbursed. This varies by state.

    How many foster children can you get at once being a single foster mom?

    • @AutumnRene
      @AutumnRene  4 роки тому +2

      It depends on where you live, but most states will limit your household to a total of six children (including foster and bios) assuming you have enough space for six
