As a single ( and infertile) teacher, your videos have been super helpful! I know I’m not ready right now, but it is absolutely helping me plan for the future!
I'm so glad you found it helpful! Keep me posted on your journey!
This is a fantastic video/channel. My husband and I became foster parents, licensed for high risk teens and it’s been the most crazy yet fulfilling thing I’ve ever done. We have had a 10yr old placement since Dec 2020 and a 16yr old placement since March 2021. We had our 14yr old bio daughter but being a boy mom with our 2 boy placements has been amazing. Yes, it’s definitely more stressful going from 1 kid to 3 kids, but my days are much more fulfilling. We live in Missouri, so the stipends are different, but being able to take in high risk teens was what we wanted (due to the need in our area) and while they do require a bit more supervision & support, the stipends are larger too.
*Im a teacher and husband is a police officer, so we are not rolling in the $ by any means. We are so grateful for our amazing licensing team out of Great Circle too.
Thank you so much for this video. I know I'm emotionally ready but I still requirements I need to meet first. I'm definitely going to be consulting this video often.
That's amazing! I think "feeling ready" is one of the biggest signs that you can do this one day :)
I won’t turn 21 for 1.5 years and am going to a school for 5-6 months. After i leave the school I am going to get the best paying job I can find, multiple jobs if I can, live like I am dead poor, and save as much money as possible. Then when it comes close for me to start foster care I want to get a house of my own (if not possible then I’ll find one to rent). Then lower myself to one good job (preferably work I can do from home). Then I am going to put the majority of my focus into fostering sibling groups because that is what I have been wanting to do since I was a child. At some point I would like to find a group to adopt but still have my house open to foster while I am on that journey.
That is a wonderful goal - I wish you the best of luck!
Hi Autumn- thank you for your relevant and informative video! I just became licensed in South Florida and am in that exact position you describe of feeling hesitant about jumping in. I have a home, a full time career with a supportive Boss, I just completed a degree, I successfully completed the training & 6 month vetting process. My home is ready. Yet I find myself holding back. I am single & between that & covid I think I can pinpoint those two areas as subtly holding me back as of right now
Thank you for sharing!!! You really sound similar to where I was when I first started fostering. I think the fear of the unknown is the worst part. It reminds me of riding a roller coaster. You worry about the drop on the way up - but once you go down the big hill (i.e. getting a placement) - you begin to enjoy the journey and know what to expect.
I am hoping to start taking steps towards becoming a foster parent at some point this year. Thank you so much for making these videos. They are very helpful!
Aw, that is so great! Let me know how the process goes for you!
Love this Autumn! Great video!
Thank you!!!
Do you have to meet the biological parents when you were fostering? Thanks.
It depends on the situation. In many cases, foster parents can be a source of encouragement for biological parents. But in other cases, they may keep you seperate. It will depend on the situation and the agency
This is great thank you!
Your amazing!
Autumn Rene I live in Tx an just submitted my papers to become a foster to adopt parent. I would like to speak and connect with you. Message me so that we can talk. Thanks Mai 😊
Can you be a foster parent even if you have a learning disability like ADHD and dyslexia ?
Absolutely! People with ADHD and dyslexia are just as capable of being wonderful parents as anyone else.
@@AutumnRene I am a good mom now raising three kids
I don’t think I could handle being an empty Nester I love taking care of kids especially hoping someday to be a foster mom
I am 21 my husband is 20 turning 21 in November could we start getting the ball rolling now or do we have to wait until he is 21?
You can definitely start some things like going to information meetings and getting your house ready
Hi! I’m interested in fostering & want to start the process this year. I’m currently in a one bed but plan on moving in the summer to a 2 bed, would it make sense if I waited until I moved to start?
Also, did you have to ask your landlord for approval before you could foster in your apartment?
Sn. I’m in texas also! :)
Yes - I would wait simply because you will have to refill out all the paperwork with your new address. In the meantime, you can learn all you can and start preparing 😊
@@AutumnRene thanks for your reply!
