  • My First Two Weeks as a Single Foster Mom
    This is what life is like the first few weeks of getting a placement as a single foster parent. It can be hard and stressful at times, but oh so worth it! #singlefostermom #firstfosterplacement
    Please let me know in the comments below if you have any specific questions about the first few weeks of placement or foster care in general. I hope for this channel to be a resource to other foster parents.

    Congratulations!!! I’m going to do Foster Care next year. Single now. That’s how I’m going into it too. Sending love.

    I know this video is old but thank you so much for making it!
    I'm very concerned about my financial stability and if I'll be allowed to foster, but I'm working on all that now. I would love to start the process by 35, I'm 29 now.
    Thank you!

    Thank you so much for these videos! They've been incredibly encouraging and reassuring for me while I consider fostering as a single working woman. Would you mind making a video on daycare/childcare? I know your little one had some challenges with it but any information you could share would be really helpful.

      Yes, I will make a video soon on this...unfortunately the struggle is still real!

    This is what I really want to do once I get a better financial situation and get my masters. Thank you for posting this. I have been thinking about this for years. I am wondering if I could request (don’t know if this is the correct wording, apologize in advance) children with mental illnesses? I am very experienced with children with mental illnesses. I don’t know if you would know this, I just needed your opinion on this.

      What a great question! In most areas, you are able to request things like ethnicity, race, gender, disabilities you are willing to handle, etc...you can also tell your caseworkwe specific i.e. I only want sibling groups or children w/mental illness. If you prefer, you can work to get licensed as a therapuetic home where you would only take high needs kiddos who have medical needs (which often includes mental illness). Hope this helps!

    Hi Autumn! I don't know if you'll see this comment since it has been a few years since you posted, but I was wondering if you could talk about dating while being a foster mom. I know that's personal so no worries if not. It's just the biggest kickback I get from people--that I'll make it enormously difficult to get married if I start fostering while single. Thanks!

    Can you talk about how often and what types of doctor's appointments were within the first few weeks? And the process of finding qualified chilcare. Can kiddos go to in home sitters?

    can you give more details about who can watch a foster child for you and what the qualifications are?

    • @AutumnRene
      @AutumnRene  5 років тому +2

      That varies a lot depending on where you live and who liscensed you! Some places they just have to be CPR certified and others you have to have taken training courses and FBI fingerprints, etc...

    How do I get a home like you at such a young age if I wanna foster?

      I was living in a single bedroom apartment in this video. I worked as a nanny to afford it. Now, I work as a certified teacher.
