Later in the video he said that he only relates to the song as someone who's been stalked. (The song's really about the nonsense of immature, obsessive behavior.) In a recent interview he said he'd rather not talk about his girlfriend in order to protect her because people have tried to "friend" his friends just to access info about him. He seems fairly tolerant of the downside of fame except when it affects his friends and family.
I think he wrote this about his own experience being stalked online by a fan, kind of poking fun at the desperation to get his attention. He's speaking from the stalker's point of view in the song, but in an ironic way.
