Putin has repeatedly cited the post-Soviet enlargement of Nato eastwards towards Russia's borders as a reason for the invasion of Ukraine.
Speaking to the leaders of a Russian-dominated military alliance of former Soviet states, Putin said the enlargement of Nato was being used by the US in an 'aggressive' way, to aggravate an already difficult global security situation.
Russia, Putin said, had no problem with Finland or Sweden, so there was no direct threat from Nato enlargement to include those countries.
'But the expansion of military infrastructure into this territory would certainly provoke our response,' Putin said

Finland & Sweden aren't joining Nato they're doing special friendship operations
In the same way as installing an alarm in your house provokes burglars.
Finland and Sweden are not provoking Putin. They are responding to his provocations.
The Russian tanks would not survive being shot by Nokia 3310's armor penetrating capabilities. More turrets will pop into their airforce
The problem is that Finland and Sweden saw how Russia said it was no threat to Ukraine....
This guy has done more for NATO than anyone else in the last 20 years. Cheers mate, keep making us stronger.
Weird how attacking a neighbour makes another neighbour want to join an alliance that opposes you!
Has this dude not realized yet that his actions will only make NATO stronger, not weaker?
Well this comes from a guy who claimed it was only a military exercise and there's no threat to Ukraine just days before they attacked. So I wouldn't take his words too seriously although the fact seems to be that he has no troops to attack anyone else at the moment.
A Finnish genral reacting to Putin's threats if Finland joins NATO: "you're most welcome here to join the 200,000 Russians that are already in Finland buried a few meters underground after your last attempt in 1939"
Love seeing Lukashenko and the other guys' faces. They must be thinking, how can I get out of this? Bit too scared to say anything
2 weeks ago he bragged about nukes that can reach Europe within a minute, that no other nations have. Lol. And now he is concerned about some military bases in Finland.
Yes you heard it from the guy, his response will be to keep all his tanks in the ground and not in the air like in Ukraine.
The abusive husband gets angry when his wife gets kick boxing lessons….
Two days ago it was “going to be a military response” if they joined NATO!! Now it’s “if the military infrastructure gets bolstered” there will be a military response. Putin is that scared bully that say’s “You’re gonna get it if you cross this line” then it’s “Ok, this line”, then “Alright this line”, then “Look, I mean it this time”😂🤣😂🤣
Seems like the very existence of a country is enough of a reason for him to ‘liberate’ it
Ukraine gave up its nuclear weapons and is not in NATO and was invaded in 2014 (Crimea) and in 2022 despite having a treaty with Russia. What is the lesson for other states neighbouring Russia? No nuclear weapons, not in NATO, then expect to be invaded?
The look on all their face's.... "are we the baddies"
At this stage, does he even take himself seriously anymore because no one in this world does
