Congratulations on your 20 day quit now cannabine. Yes there are plenty of actual physical symptoms that can manifest the first few days of a quit but as you saw yourself, these symptoms are usually shorted live. Some lung discomfort does sometime occur during those first few days--the pages whyquit.com/joels-videos/learning-how-to-inhale/ and whyquit.com/joels-videos/why-many-people-cough-more-after-quitting/ gives one reason why some of this happens to some people. By quitting though most people are going to breathe better for the rest of their lives than they would have breathed if they had not quit when they did. The page whyquit.com/joels-videos/feel-how-smoking-affects-the-lungs/ explains the important significance of this particular benefit to quitting. Again, congratulations on your 20 days and if there is ever anything more I can do to help please don't hesitate to get back in touch.

I should probably note here, I wouldn't say quitting by gradual withdrawal is inherently too dangerous as in it was going to kill you by trying it. Nor would I say that quitting by using nicotine replacement therapy. I would say though that the problem of using these products is that they will prolong your nicotine withdrawal period and likely undercut your ability to quit. Undercutting your quit can indeed be dangerous. The page whyquit.com/joels-videos/quitting-by-gradual-withdrawal/ addresses the problem with the gradual withdrawal method. The one quit smoking drug that I have always felt carried real potential risks though is Chantix/Champix. My page whyquit.com/joels-videos/my-personal-views-on-chantix/ addresses this particular issue.

One other concept I want to touch on here. There are drugs that are dangerous to quit cold turkey and may indeed need to be gradually reduced or the person may need to be treated with other drugs to mitigate the withdrawals that can occur because they can be dangerous or even life-threatening. Nicotine just is not one of them.

Its all or nothing I guess. I cant gradually stop, its actally the other way around, I gradually started. No smoker smoked their first ever cigarette and then went to be a 20 a day smoker that same day. I remember being given the odd one or even half of someone elses then buying the odd few from someone elses pack then buying my own pack which would last a few days and so on and so on until maybe a full year or more until I was actually buying a pack a day.

I quitted smoking cold turkey about five years ago. I never relapsed but before I tried three times progressive withdraw. I am glad that you have found the videos helpful Umberto and congratulations on your five year quit. Yes previous quits when you were not going cold turkey likely resulted in a tougher and protracted withdrawal phase. The pages whyquit.com/joels-videos/quitting-by-gradual-withdrawal/ and whyquit.com/joels-videos/prolonging-nicotine-withdrawal/ address this issue. Also as you noted, getting past the third day symptoms do really improve. The pages whyquit.com/joels-videos/the-importance-of-the-first-three-days-of-your-quit/ and whyquit.com/joels-videos/why-am-i-still-experiencing-nicotine-withdrawals/address this really important issue. @@joelspitz Joel, You really hit the problem...the core question is : "do I REALLY want quit smokig?"
If the answer is a loud "YES", you can get pleasure fromt the withdrawal symptons too knowing that when they will be over, you will get what you really desire..in other words, withdrawal symptoms are due to the dying "nicotine demon" and you are winning the battle. God bless You

Hi joel. I want to thank you so very much for this video, and also the video links you're commenting to people about what happens after smoking and talking about lings, cilia and everything else.
Im 25, ive amoked cigarettes and marajuana for 10 years. Around the 1st october i had a breakdown due to muscle trauma at birth.
Around the same time, i displayed signs of breathing difficulty. Up until this day my smoking usage was sky high, k would smoke more than i ate food, or exercised.
You have given me auch comfort, as the things your links describe, are the things im feeling after quitting cold turkey for 4 weeks. I am atill coughing mucus, and i have the burning sensations and sometimes the litetal pain. I have been panicking like your video said! "Why has wuitting smoking made me feel worse!?" But now i know.
I have changed my diet, hydrated much more and slowly taking on exercise. Thank you very much!

For some it is! People dealing with minor depression and anxiety can take a huge hit on their mental health. But thats so rare. I am still recovering one year later. Pills ,therapy twice a week, a few hospitalizations and a lot of pain. I am still nicotine free but if you ask me...listen to your body. If you feel that you are cracking take it slow, use all the help available. Quitting is still quitting no matter what ! Who cares if you did it cold turkey or with help. Your health is more important!
I WISH JOEL would speak about this, get deeper into this topic. I kept pushing and pushing thinking it is ok, that thats the process but I was wrong. IT IS dangerous for some, please adress this!
My life became a living hell. I was only a girl with a lot of problems and having only cigs as my only pleasure. Take that away abruptly , guess what happends. I advise eneryone to quit but do so on your own capacity. No point is being cig free if you aren t alive anymore.
All the doctors told me it was a mistake doing it this way! 99% can take it but I was in that 1%...Please tell that 1% that it is alright with help also, save them!

      Hello Melania:
Actually, I address the kind of issues you are referring to here a lot. Here are a number of pages addressing your concerns:
      whyquit.com/joels-videos/when-you-may-really-need-to-talk-to-your-doctor-about-quitting-smoking/
      whyquit.com/joels-videos/resources-regarding-mental-health-issues/
      whyquit.com/joels-videos/medication-adjustments-that-may-be-necessary-after-quitting-smoking/
      whyquit.com/joels-videos/life-goes-on-without-smoking/
Some people may have to start taking new medications or therapies or alter the medications they already take to treat new symptoms or problems that start after quitting smoking. If any person is having medical or psychological reactions that happen after quitting and last longer than the first few days medical assessment and intervention is warranted. One other page that highlights this issue is whyquit.com/joels-videos/does-nicotine-withdrawal-really-last-for-months-or-years/

@@joelspitz I know about those but I wasn t diagnosed with anything prior to it and not taking any medications. I read them all and Thank You ! for your work. It was important to adress it here and any time the topic comes along because: even if I read them, I told myself : thats not my case! When it was my case but didn t know:( I thought I am going through widthdrawl, thought I miss cigs that much. Had no idea what anxiety or panic attacks are.
I understand why it s not talked about enough, people might use any excuse to relapse.I am a true supporter of quiting smoking but It s also imperative that we mention this, that this can happen. On VERY RARE occasions getting help, taking it easy and using other methods are the safest way!

      @joelspitz  3 роки тому +1

No problem with the criticism Melania, it is indeed an important point. As far as for not having been diagnosed with any issues or taking medications for any problems before quitting--see the page whyquit.com/joels-videos/using-cigarettes-to-self-medicate-pre-existing-conditions/
It was one of the additional resources on the mental health page above.
It addresses how many people are using their cigarettes to treat other pre-existing conditions and that when stopping those conditions may become more pronounced. In most cases though there are medications to treat those underlying disorders--most treating them better and a whole lot safer than using cigarettes to do so.

Congratulations on your two and a half months quit rabi rabi. Here are a a couple of pages addressing what you did to quit:
      whyquit.com/joels-videos/incorporating-exercise-after-quitting/
      whyquit.com/joels-videos/do-whatever-it-takes-to-quit-smoking/
Be careful though in believing that you "have to" go to the gym or take certain supplements in order to quit or to stay quit. The page whyquit.com/joels-videos/crutches-to-quit-smoking/ addresses a potential pitfall of ever using this kind of logic. Also see the page whyquit.com/joels-videos/using-deep-breathing-as-a-safe-and-effective-quitting-aid/ touches on the issues involved.
Again though, congratulations on your quit and just know that all you have to do now to keep this quit going is simply to make and stick to a personal commitment to never take another puff.
