Yamaha FJR1300 Saddlebag Screws Need Loctite

Going along with my previous video on why your saddlebags might fall off your Yamaha FJR1300, this details the cause of some people's problems, and it's 100% human error on the part of the dealer. When being assembled, the bike calls for specific tools, materials and torque values. When a dealer fails to follow those instructions, bad things happen. Mine didn't have loctite as many others have reported. It's something EVERY FJR1300 and FJ09 rider needs to do to the bags at the very least just to make sure the dealer did it.

Why is THIS the ONLY FJR Video from TWO I've never seen! Dammit! Thanks TWO.
My brother and I both have FJR s (2014 & 2016). Two days ago we were in no mans land on a 1300km ride across the Snowy Mountains in Australia. We stopped and my brother noticed his pannier lock was about to fall out. We tightened the tamper proof screws as best we could and made our way to the next town. Bought the T10 bit and lock tight. Checked all other 3 boxes and sure enough, all loose. Noticed your video and couldn't believe it. This must be happening to 90% of all bikes being delivered. Anyway, it's a MUST check for all FJR owners. Thanks for your videos.
Yep, because usually the dipshits at the dealer are responsible for setup. It's 100% dealer human error.
Yamaha should gift you every 3 years a new bike; keep up the great work and may the bike gods keep you safe.
i checked my saddlebag screws NO Loctite on them, they weren't tight at all. i reinstalled them with Loctite. A big THANK YOU!
I just got my 2008 Fjr... Without you I think k I would be lost. Thank you so much for your video's
You just saved me several hundred dollars sir. My bag was getting difficult to lock- after watching your video it turns out one of the screws was only hanging on by 1.5 threads, and now I'm headed to the store to buy a set of security torx bits. Thank you for the excellent content!
Thanks for the video. Acquired a '15 with 6k miles last week and decided to check the fasteners today. All 4 of them were merely finger tight and lacking threadlock!
FJR OWNERS READ THIS FIRST!!!! I just lost by latch, but I was able to get the box open. Used 2013, 11 years later the two screws fell out, however I have only had one for a year and was dumb and forgot about it.
Just bought a fjr 1300 , just love the bike . Thankyou for all your information , very help full for us who own them.
Thanks. I have just bought an FJR 5 days ago. Already you have addressed several issues that I had to deal with. I find your explanations very thorough and helpful. The video quality is also very clear to me. You are my "Aristotle" of FJR maintenance!
***** Cool man thanks for watching!
Love your videos! I recently bought a 2015 FJR 1300 ES and your videos are priceless.
This happened on my 07 and I forgot about it! Thanks for the reminder - I will definitely do on my 14.
Interestingly, just checked the screws on my brand new (June 2018) UK FJR1300 and I'm glad to say they did have threadlocker / locktite applied.
I've been learning alot from your video's about my new to me 2013 fjr!!! thanks for the helpful info
Just picked up an 05 FJR and notice the locks seemed loose. Mine had the security torx screws. All were loose and one missing. I was able to remove them all with a pair of needle nose pliers and put red lock tight on them because that’s what I had already. Also replaced all the screws since I didn’t have the right torx bit. I found that computer screws work. Ordered a multi pack from Amazon and found the right size. A bit shorter but enough thread and lock tight I think they’ll be fine. Hope that helps anyone trying to source these screws.
Great description of how to do the a precautionary task 👍🏻
Just bought a 2018 with 10,000 miles on it. The screws were not even finger tight, also had no thread locker on them. Was a T10 security Torx bit. Thanks for the heads up!
Exactly what I found as well. Good to know. Will follow your instructions ASAP.
A good heads up on a potential problem Thankyou
Thimbs up as usual. Thanks for all of the videos. I plan on making the FJR my next motorcycle in the future.
comcastjohn Thanks for watching!
Anyone know where you can get the screws and the bit? Besides the dealer. Or what size the screws and bit are?
Definitely make this fix before you lose a side case. BTW, replacement side cases don't come with the locks and need to be ordered separately (a set of three). Don't ask me how I know.
Do you know the exact size of the screws?
Thanks for another great video..I have a question does your bike have a clear protective film/tape where case rubs against the body panel? I have to assemble my cases myself as dealer got the wrong ones in. Looks straight forward enough and saves another trip to the dealer.
+Mark Camilleri It came with it, I did not apply it, no need IMO.
how can you change the lock on the saddlebags i need to changed the inside black part of the bag in info would be great i have a 2004 fjr 1300a
Open the top latch, remove the two screws, it slides out.
Longer screws help too!!
great vid!
Screw size= M3-.50x6
I rode home from work on Weds to find my right pannier lock completely loose, one of the screws had fallen out. I followed the great instructions here for my other pannier. I called my local Yamaha dealer today to order a replacement for my missing screw only to be told one cannot order those screws alone. One has to buy a new lock for $99.95 and those screws come with it.
Needless to say I am fuming with the idiocy of Yamaha. Has anyone else faced this and were you able to find replacement screws somewhere else? I'll be calling Yamaha customer care on Monday to discuss this.
Home depot has screws that fit
I lost a screw on my 2009 FJR bag. It is a Security Torque Screw with the hold in the middle. Where can I find the this screw or which other size screw can I buy and where?
Take the other one to Home Depot and buy any one that matches it doesn’t have to be torques
TwoWheelObsession ok will do that. Thank you. Thanks for the videos.
Do you remember what size that Torx size is?
al mandel T10, I just installed the locks today.
T-10 Torx and do NOT drop the screws. They are a bitch to replace
yeah I found out the hard way and lost my lock....
I lost one of my lock cylinders. >:(
Where can I purchase these screws for FJR1300 Saddlebags(ua-cam.com/video/I5qi8bgxkrw/v-deo.html). I watched your other video(ua-cam.com/video/GcSwKJYM0BM/v-deo.html)... I've had the same thing happen to me. I looked at mine and 3 screws were missing!!!!
Any dealer or online place that sell OEM parts just google them or look them up on microfiche
