In fact, I know for a fact that they gave us a lot of modern privileges workers just 100 years ago would died for (and just about did, I know). but what I'm saying is that MY OWN experience with unions has not exactly left me with a good opinion of them
Remember that OH&S, WCB, Employment Acts, 40 hour work week, overtime pay, and many other laws protecting workers, were only enacted because corporations were forced to capitulate by workers standing together (Unions). If the past 5 years has taught us anything, it's this... The price of freedom (including worker's rights) is eternal vigilance. Do you really think things will improve for workers if we eliminate unions? Do you actually believe that corporations wouldn't fight like hell with a multi-billion dollar bankroll to remove workers rights? Should we not blame the government and the CIRB? I guess it's easier to blame workers.
Unions can be good things, if kept at the basics. When leadership starts doing things counter to what the union members want, is when it becomes a useless organization.
He does not know what is Organize Labour in first place , he is private little business owner who wants to create more wealth for him self for that reason he is self employed , he think he is better then Union workers that aren't working hard enough to deserve their wages compare to his private related business ambitions.

Funny that in WWII it was deemed essential. My grandfather worked for CN Rail as a radio operator during the war. He was not sent to Europe to fight as his role was deemed essential to keep the war effort going "back home" I stand with QDM as far as unions are concerned. Their sole purpose is to pad their own pockets, at the expense of their members and the companies their members work for. They haven't made any cuts in the last 6 years, at least not at CN. it's been a constant stream of new hires day after day. The problem is the retention rate. The forced relocation is complete bs. CN cares about families? Ok than wtf are going to force someone out for a month at time to anywhere in the country? This job is hard enough on families, you miss holidays, birthdays, anniversaries, what's a weekend? Trains and yard assignments have a very loose schedule, am I going to work in an hour? Or 2 days from now? I've sat first up for a call for 3 days before I went to work.
I worked a seasonal position for two years with the Federal Government, and of coarse was forced to join the federal government workers union. I became very familiar with many other employees in many different positions. The inefficiency created by years of unionization was staggering. My own position amounted to about two to three hours of actual work a day. I didn’t see many other positions that were much different. The irony was that the long term employees were largely unhappy ,grumpy and unfulfilled. I was young and it was a short term filler after high school.Being young and ambitious I vowed to never again work for the Feds and be very wary of any union job. Just think this situation likely goes deep in all government departments and many union jobs! Great video Quick Dick.

There's a massive difference between workload for public sector unionized employees and private sector unionized employees. @@TheMagache no argument here, I also worked sawmills under International Woodworkers. Most worked hard, there was some union BS occasionally, but hard work was required daily.
Slight correction, Quick Dick: Even though the the Canada Industrial Relations Board ruled (at the 3:43 point of your video) that rail transit is "non essential work" in Canada, there is contradictory classification from Public Safety Canada which states that RAIL NETWORKS are classified as CRITICAL INFRASTRUCTURE because of (a) their economic impact (vital to the transportation of people and goods of Canada in support of trade and commerce) (b) the crucial role they play in ensuring safe and efficient movement of hazardous materials, and in the rapid deployment of emergency services and supplies; and (c) their role in supporting the interconnectivity of other critical infrastructure sectors- such as energy and utilities . It follows that Canadian voters, taxpayers and citizens should NEVER be impacted by any widescale or protracted labour disputes involving the workers and employers of railway sector organizations. The time for BINDING ARBITRATION is now!
I'm a union member that lost his job for 15 months because he refused to get the J A B. The union and more importantly my union members wished death on me and others that refused as well, that's all I will ever remember about being a union member.

My Dad was President of a Local Union back in the 1970's..... They were planning on going on strike for higher pay when my Dad figured out that - if they were on strike for more than a week, the pay increase they wanted would take YEARS to pay back the LOSS of pay for the duration of the strike! They CALLED OFF THE STRIKE and NEGOTIATED. THAT's how it SHOULD work. MOST of these Unions have NO REGARD for the workers - they are a BUSINESS unto themselves. Look at the Auto Workers - They are paid SO MUCH that they have DESTROYED the ability of the companies to use them - so all their jobs are either Automated or shipped OVERSEAS. And Detroit is the biggest economic FAILURE in the US.
I was in a union for 32 years. They tried to take advantage of us, we tried to take advantage of them. Somewhere in there we found a happy medium and all was well. We didn't want to go on strike. We didn't get paid when we were on strike. But sometimes they left us no choice. The company doesn't like not making money as well. The government needs to get a mediator in there and get them talking. Then good things will happen. Get them to agree to binding arbitration if need be. Its not that hard.
Back in the days of Henry Ford, he would send his thugs out to beat up union organizers. Once unions got in, they had to be certified (voted for) at each & every new plant. Now the auto companies automatically bring the union into any new plant (I know there hasn't been any for years). Why, because the unions are the cheapest layer of management the companies have, as the workers pay for it!
I agree that most places probably don't need unions anymore but CN and CP are definitely not one of those places. CN doesn't even pay their contractors on time and sometimes not at all. They're greasy as fuck and even with a negotiated contract, they're constantly breaking the contract which makes the members have to file grievances constantly to make CN hold up their end of the deal. It's not a place I would want to work at without a union.
Issue: The money is not worth as much, can't afford anything. Result: my employer is greedy and is taking advantage of me. Union is the path of least resistance when really we should be looking at the policy makers.
I get how employers are in a bad spot. They're selling to a populace with less money while, at the same time, having to up prices because their supplies also cost more. But they need to raise wages so that people can afford things again. Once that happens, everything evens out, given a bit of time The big problem is that they have no incentive to do so if they can hire people from third world Africa for less than they were paying before. Sounds great in the short term, but in the mid-term they've torpedoed their only customers, especially since our heavily taxed exports are so unappealing.
Good luck to the railway workers. It's a dangerous job and I sure as hell don't want to do it. Noticed you did a good job skating around their reasonable demands and went straight to attacking unions in general with the classic 'they're lazy' and 'they just want your money'. Nice work
Where were the unions when their members were having the jab forced on them? Can you think of one that stood up to protect members? Union leaders are in with the government.
Wait just a minute here. I thought this is a lockout?? I work in a union and we always worked on the old contract when they were bargaining on a new contract and have never been locked out.
He clearly either didn't read, doesn't know the difference, or believe whatever the msm tells him with their cowardly weasel words and lies by omission
CN rail bridge east of Fort Francis and west of thunder Bay has collapsed. The bridge is a cantilever bridge that is over 100 years old. Obviously the infrastructure needs to be updated in many places across this country.
Im a conductor for CN and i absolutely agree. The union amd company are two sides of the same coin. However thr company has made little effort to table a decent contract, and the union hasnt proposed a counter offer at all! That beikg said, CN has made absolutely atrocious offers that would have ruined our (already poor) quality of life. Working longer hours for less pay.
Well that lasted 16 hours. The government has ordered them back to work. If they do not deal with the work orders and time off, there will be a significant number of engineers who will resign. One of the reason for the hard nose attitude of the companies is the shortage of workers because of increased traffic and many older employees retiring. They want to increase work load, require engineers to go to work with only 2 hours notice at any time after 8 hours after a shift. They also want to be able to assign workers to anywhere in the country. I would be looking for a new job with an attitude like that.
Nah, the crop goes in the bin, you don’t need a train to harvest your crop. The idea the railroad being down has anything to do with farming is ridiculous.
Yep, that is the Union way, one man working and 5 supervisors in white hats looking at the other 10 union workers looks at the 1 guy working......The gov works the same way...O Canada....
My Wife has been with 3 different unions over the course of her working career and every single one of them were completely toothless. In every single one, she never was able to meet any union representative nor did they ever come by. Calling them was entirely useless. The pay raises they "negotiated" were laughable and downright insulting (one year was a 50 cent per hour raise, not even joking). The only good thing to come of the unions were health care, but technically all union members paid over and above their normal dues for that as well. You're right, unions are NOT what they used to be.
I worked in a union as a summer student for 2 summers and found it very toxic by the senior employees. Constant complaining by senior employees that felt they were entitled to everything and responsible for nothing. Super wasteful and it was no wonder why the government was trying to sub contract the work. Good paying job at the time but glad to never have to be part of one again. Went to the oilpatch where hard work is rewarded accordingly.
It's been awhile since we had a toonie. A very good one today. I fully agree that unions have outlived their usefullness. To top it off our government is as useful as tits on a bull. Hey Blue Ball.
Back in the early 80 when CPR employees voted to go on strike, one of the old timers said to me that the last time they went on strike the Gov ended it in 3 days because they were "Essential" but that was before we had Trudeau the destroyer!
No, he and all other farmers do a hell of a lot more good for us & OUR country, than any corrupt, treasonous politician could ever do. We'll have to stand behind them when the WEF puppets start to shut down farming, as they are going to try to do. Darth Gates already owns more farmland in the USA than anyone by a huge amount. This whole strike will remove whatever strength our economy has gained since the pandemic. Way to go Trudeau. Just when I think your government can't do worse, you surprise me.😒
Well the union isn't going to listen to the government and plan to strike Monday, so who's hurting the economy, Trudeau or the Teamsters?
you don't know much Union history, do you? My smug cousins my age (now retired) didn't do any of the fighting (and dying) that got them their premium benefit and highwages for in some case NO real skillset, the Greatest Generation did that for them. While quaffing a Molsons' watching Hockey Night, they'd prounce and pontificate (after several beers) on how they "didn't need" a Union. Lest We Forget. Hoffa's generations got all those benefits, with many being killed for it.
@@DwightStJohn-t7y I never said that unions never helped. In fact, I know for a fact that they gave us a lot of modern privileges workers just 100 years ago would died for (and just about did, I know). but what I'm saying is that MY OWN experience with unions has not exactly left me with a good opinion of them
Who was killed for it?
Use to be that the left wanted to end world hinger. Now it looks like they want to be part of it.

How the rail infrastructure for freight is not essential is baffling. But leave that up to the government to hamstring the national economy.
Not, only crossings at the longest land border in the world are essential.
It used to be. The Cretien government privatized it in 95.
Funny that in WWII it was deemed essential. My grandfather worked for CN Rail as a radio operator during the war. He was not sent to Europe to fight as his role was deemed essential to keep the war effort going "back home"
I stand with QDM as far as unions are concerned. Their sole purpose is to pad their own pockets, at the expense of their members and the companies their members work for. By driving up every cost imaginable, forcie businesses to reduce costs (jobs) leaving employees out of work.
Transporting of goods have to be unessential because of the way he treats truckers.

Not to mention Palestinian supporters protesting and promoting violence against jews, regular burning of churches.

Finally someone admits there weren't as many truckers as the organizers claimed.
I get Schindler’s List vibes whenever I hear the government denote people essential or non-essential.
Turdeau called us 'worthless eaters' during the convoy days! Such a POS.
Well, the railroads were quite essential in that time, sadly.
You have more in common with those union members than you do with the owners of the railroads.
The only reason that we have OH&S, WCB/WSIB, pensions, and vacation pay is because in every single one of those cases is unions fought for the existence of said programs
I think that QDM acknowledged that unions did have merit in the past.
And 20 years from now, he'll concede we needed them now too.
We need more unions, and less corporate and stockholder greed.
The workers are locked out not on strike. The big issue is the employees don't want to be moved and relocated at the companies will. Because of cuts and more cuts to the man power the companies have made record profits and won't hire to fill the shortages
1 is locked out other issues strike notice...guess no one knows what a compromise is. Govt to afraid of losing more votes and let the country go down in flames. 9200 workers on pickets lines millions affected in the down stream. Great economics.

He's farming content without reading. Should stick to grain
As a Canadian hobo, i approve this message.
With this economy, we'll all be hobo's soon enough.
Our politicians are non essential workers. 😊

I'm the son of a Saskatchewan farmer...I did 13 years time in the employ of the federal government...it ate away at me. I finally left to save my mental health. While I no longer have the pay and benefits I once did, I'm much happier and healthier as a result.
Near the end, two hours of work was an exceptionally long day...just nuts. I've got too many other stories from those dark days of my life....
It appears you were every bit part of the problem your describing
@@georgefox4982 I will give them the benefit of doubt that they were never in management positions. (there is like 12 levels of it!) Hence, they were given work by someone above their pay grade. Did anyone remember the last Fed strike? Me neither! It didn't affect my life at all. Rail strike does.
There's a massive difference between workload for public sector unionized employees and private sector unionized employees. I have so much work to do, it's literally impossible to get it all done without overtime hours, and then we have federal unionized employees doing 2 hours of work in an 8 hour day and slacking off.
@@TheMagache no argument here, I also worked sawmills under International Woodworkers. Most worked hard, there was some union BS occasionally, but hard work was required daily.
Nailed it in one. Cheers Brother Bear.
My Grandfather didn’t have to fight in WW2 because he worked for the CNR and that was because it was an essential service!!
Slight correction, Quick Dick:
Even though the the Canada Industrial Relations Board ruled (at the 3:43 point of your video) that rail transit is "non essential work" in Canada, there is contradictory classification from Public Safety Canada which states that RAIL NETWORKS are classified as CRITICAL INFRASTRUCTURE because of (a) their economic impact (vital to the transportation of people and goods of Canada in support of trade and commerce) (b) the crucial role they play in ensuring safe and efficient movement of hazardous materials, and in the rapid deployment of emergency services and supplies; and (c) their role in supporting the interconnectivity of other critical infrastructure sectors- such as energy and utilities . It follows that Canadian voters, taxpayers and citizens should NEVER be impacted by any widescale or protracted labour disputes involving the workers and employers of railway sector organizations. The time for BINDING ARBITRATION is now!
Oh, so the Liberal government is just ignoring the law as written?
Colour me shocked.
Maybe there are those that may wish this to last indefinitely.
I'm a union member that lost his job for 15 months because he refused to get the J A B. The union and more importantly my union members wished death on me and others that refused as well, that's all I will ever remember about being a union member.

@DianeDi no this was 2022. Well actually i dont know if these sites still do. Why would i keep asking them for work when that was their answer. It was a slow decision and takes months of nonpayment to be removed.
@@TheMagache It's called a necessary evil!
Interesting comparison to what was occurring pre-covid.
Issue: The money is not worth as much, can't afford anything. Result: my employer is greedy and is taking advantage of me. Union is the path of least resistance when really we should be looking at the policy makers.
Union fees take more than the employer does
Go get another job!@@darenholzinger4587
I get how employers are in a bad spot. They're selling to a populace with less money while, at the same time, having to up prices because their supplies also cost more.
But they need to raise wages so that people can afford things again. Once that happens, everything evens out, given a bit of time
The big problem is that they have no incentive to do so if they can hire people from third world Africa for less than they were paying before.
Nice work
How much did the unions support the members when forced vaccinations cost them their jobs when they did not comply!
Where were the unions when their members were having the jab forced on them? Can you think of one that stood up to protect members? Union leaders are in with the government.
I wish I could opt out of the union I'm in. They are never there when we need them and are 100% self-serving. It's an extortion racket.

Very well said. Thank you
Well that lasted 16 hours.
Man oh man you nailed every thing down to a T there is nothing to add. You spoke to truth on what’s happening and what should be done!!!!!!!!!!
