The main advantage of the locust over the flea is that it has the compact quirk. This lets me take 2 locusts with just one bay. Very few mechs can out scout 2 locusts.
I don’t care what anybody says, I love the locust. When we played the role-playing game years and years ago, it was really easy for me to always find parts for it, get into and out of adventures and shenanigans with it, and generally make a nuisance of myself for my own entertainment. Love the locust.
When I first played Mechwarrior 5 and the Battletech turned based game I was happy when I first saw the Flea...simply because because I mistook it for the Locust. Their very idea is extremely cool. Fast mobile mech on chickens legs moving on small hunting packs that not just scout the terrain and enemy movement but can also Jam their communications. Thus should they outnumber an enemy scouting party, the enemy command will lose instantly communication with them, and next time they see them they shall find a mech graveyard. What is not cool is the fact that (as far as I know) in both games favor a Lyrian "tactics" of just bringing as heavy a mech as possible for a frontal fight with numerical disadvantage.
I can’t speak for MW5 but have you tried the BT mods? These kick your force up to company size. With various sensor locks and fast mechs/skimmers you can make light play very viable. Nobody wants four saladins in their backside.
The Battletech Advanced mod changes the way evasion works to more closely match the tabletop. It makes mediums and lights much more viable than the base game. It also has the entire IS accessible on the map, which is quite something.
@@SHDW-nf2ki I haven’t played MW5 but if anything like previous games, 100% agree. I’d like to see a MW and total war mashup game - Total War strategic map and MW tactical play. In that environment, I see lights actually being used due to their strategic mobility and potential for rear-area shenanigans.
Honestly if they gave you extra slots and just limited you by drop tonnage, it might actually make light recon mechs viable depending on whether or not you want to bring missile boats. Also I legitimately would pay money to see the final mission in MW5 be done by 8 separate hunchbacks
If you're playing a campaing and using the quirks rules, they have the compact trait! That means you can fit 2 of them into 1 mech bay for transportation. A few others have this quirk as well.
It was also a Locust pilot who kicked off the Reunification Wars, by opening fire on Children throwing snowballs at his mech... He was a Kuritan, so are you at all surprised?
There's a bit more to it than that. He was out of his mech and first retaliated by throwing a coolant canister at the kids. This burst and severely injured a kid. Naturally, the adults nearby were upset by this and confronted him, so he ran off to his mech and tried to run away, only to trip and fall. Only then, while in a panic as the crowd swarmed the mech, did he open fire. Also, the Reuinification War was gonna happen one way or another, but it did kick it off sooner than the newly formed Star League probably intended it to.
fyi the original Locust design was lifted from an anime series called Crusher Joe the Samurai Aerospace fighter & Gallion light tank are also designs taken from that series
I think your forgetting all the problems the trooper had being why it's less common. Then again, it's somewhat hard to be more common than the thing pirate kingdoms can make from scratch
Yes! I can Blame You! How can you mistake the two!? The Locust is so much Cooler than the Flea! Its the Poster Child of Light Mechs! Though i enjoy the Stinger and the Wasps! Good Job Though! Good Video! So Proud you got it right!
Yes Sperry Browning is the descendent company of the wonderous creator of the Ma Deuce. I mean seriously, why would you ever by a vehicle grade machine gun from anyone else if Browning is available. always remember in lore GM built the first compact fusion engine, Nissan, Sperry-Browning and many other manufacturers are in universe - all of this aids in world building and world believability ... The Locust and the Flea both have their places, usually the Locust is scouting and the Flea .. well oppressing populations. slower, MGs and Flamers, AND looks a lot like something the Empire pilots... (esp the original art)
The Flea os definitely not the Locust. The Flea is based on an older mech called the Trooper. The Locust has a 30% higher turn of speed then the Flea, making it a superlative scout. The Flea is not a great scout but is definitely one of the most expensive coffins money can buy.
Absolutely Unacceptable level of heresy, Fleas are abominations disdained by all of the distigiushed and great pilots of the perfect 20 tonner, known by the common folk as the Locust. never make this mistake again lest the swarm descend upon you.
Literally a week ago at my table:
P1 "Is that a Locust or a Flea?"
P2 "Does it mater? You are using artillery."

That is kinda weird because, going by official images alone, I think the Flea is the smaller out of the two.
I think it’s because of the locusts length compared to the fleas hight you can fold the locusts legs alongside the main body for transport
@@crosscutracer2396this^. The Locust folds up and stacks one on top of the other.
@@zuda_zthems the rules Sonny.
The Flea is what you get when you take a Locust, halve the armor, add flamers, and lose hope. It's crap.
Understable, yet unforgivable.

Love the locust.
As a scout not much can beat the Locust. Most people love them for this. I don't think I have ever met someone who thought it was garbage before.

Honestly I have to question why MW 5 even made lights and meds playable they're so worthless

Locust's biggest advantage is that it is cheap

The other other little bug would be what, the savannah master
Spider because DILLIGAF
Skirt enemy lines. Find a mech bay and race in machine gunning anything that moves , then flee like a scurvy dog. Rinse, repeat.
That’s a really good thumbnail for the video

Getting them mixed up, while understandable, is unacceptable.
The Flea is clearly superior.
this is correct

In mw5 I used a lct-1v I used it to kill a hunchback and later a swayback
Biggest issue i have with the recent mechwarrior games is there no reason to play any mech under 40 tons
With the right mods you can make the hero spider impossible to hit.
For the Next Video: Please consider the Clan Firemoth!
