Over 30 years ago I went to culinary arts 24:41 school, learned a lot, learn how to break down and understand recipe so well I could taste something and know what it's made with. What is amazing about this episode is Bobby has this way of conveying emotions where I actually felt my mouth burning and I'm just breathing air. of course my saliva is bursting because I've had so many different hot sauces and they are stuck in my memory.

As they keep talking about how food TV hit the main steam, I agree with Bobby Flay that Iron Chef was a very big part of it-- because competition demands a story to be interesting. And this story of the competing chefs is acknowledged at every point in the battle, the chairman recognizes the history of both chefs, we learn more about their background and their strengths and weaknesses through Alton Brown's commentary. We took something that was very frequently shown to us as being mundane raised up to the level of serious competition and given the gravitas thereof. Humans have been making and loving and comparing food for as long as we've had the ability to taste, it's part of the reflex to share a new food with a friend; "Look what I found!". Add in the creative components, where we acknowledge that food is creative and artistic, and we step into the domain of things that contain love. "I made this for you" is one of the most special things an artist can say to another person, and food is one of the things were allowed to vocally appreciate and say back " This is amazing! I feel the love" We've been seeing more with food and storytelling, such as the show Somebody Feed Phil, where the lens of food is used to explore history and culture of places all over the world. Food is universal, and sharing food was likely the first pro social communication our species picked up as we started living in nomadic groups waaay back in the cave drawing days. Before we spoke, we broke up fruits for our young and chewed tough meat for our elders. Before the word Love was first spoken, people were sharing it as food. Its a long story, and I think its great that more folks are exploring that space 😊
Great interview. He's a good dude and I speak from personal experience. I actually called his restaurant (in the early days of Food Network when he was doing "Grillin' and Chillin") and he was there. I actually spoke to Bobby Flay on the phone because I was considering changing careers and becoming a chef after I had already invested time in my current line of work. As odd as it sounds, I wanted his professional advice. He took the time to talk to me and broke it down by asking how much money I made at the time at my current employment. He said it would take about X amount of years to make that amount of money again as a chef. It seemed like an eternity so I decided against it. In retrospect, I probably should have gone for it.
He took the time to meet and talk to us during a busy dinner service years ago at Bolo in NYC. I asked the waiter almost as a joke if we could meet him. I almost spat my food out when he was standing next to me 5 minutes later. Very cool.
I still remember Morimoto getting offended at him standing on the cutting board, and in the US he removed the cutting board to stand on the counter... and Morimoto still got offended lol.

Great interview! Bobby was fun to watch and hear him describe the sauces. I totally giggled when he couldn't say "corn on the cob" and someone in the background laughed. Totally a great sport. Such a great show overall!
The progression from Nervous UA-camr, to Prestigous Interviewer has been so fun to watch! From watching Season 1 to here now in 23, You made it, and then some!!
Such a huge fan of Bobby Flay since the Iron Chef days and it's so good to see him on here! Please bring more chefs on, I thoroughly enjoy hearing their thoughts & analyses of the sauces ❤ always a fun watch!
I loved hearing how he described peppers and ingredients.. this guy is a legend!! He is savage at eating finishing the challenge. He actually took HUGE bites not just a tiny nibble...
16:54 true facts, best gelato I ever found was on the tropical island of Guam at a lil cafe called Hive ( sadly went out of business at the beginning of Covid ). I took a friend there and when he tasted it this shy dude I mostly knew from DND suddenly opened up about his army brat childhood and living in Italy as a teen and how this gelato took him straight back there because it was just as good. Guy nearly cried and then brought some more to take home to his parents. Really hope whomever was making that gelato started another shop.
This is how you know you've got a master: no criticism needed for the sauces. Just looking at the ingredients and predicting what's to come based on that. Bobby's a class act for sure.
One of my new favourite episodes for sure. Such a likable guy. I love how he actually gives a thorough assessment of all the hot sauces. Bobby is an absolute icon in the food industry and he was there from the beginning of the Food Network boom. The dude also looks great all these years later.
I have to thank Bobby Flay for making my children laugh. I love watching my children laugh. Most precious gift on earth. It cracks me up every time he takes a bite and says “why am I taking such big bites “my kids die laughing and it just cracks me up. These are kids Bobby come on man.🤣😂😁😆
This is arguably my favorite episode of Hot Ones. I love how Bobby Flay would analyze each hot sauce by looking at the ingredients, smell it first, then describe each flavor.
I love the one where he throws down against some guy who has not got the slightest clue who he is. The guy goes outside his shop and call a friend and tells how some guy showed up and is challenging him. It was a riot.
I’ve seen almost every episode of hot ones, but this seems special. Old school Bobby and new school Sean. I loved the chemistry and respect these two had from the jump. Much love.

But now I can't watch it with out thinking about the dentist...
Bobby is so wholesome and a genuinely pleasant person. Great interview!
Bobby wasn't so wholesome when he was fooling around behind his wife's back...what a horn dog! ! !
This is the first episode that has me ordering the hot sauces from the show. Bobby is so great at articulating the flavors
I think I said this on the Andrew Zimmern episode, but I just love guests who know food. The analysis of the sauces themselves is wonderful.
Great interview! Bobby was fun to watch and hear him describe the sauces. I totally giggled when he couldn't say "corn on the cob" and someone in the background laughed. Totally a great sport. Such a great show overall!
Bobby is an OG and still fun to watch. Crazy to hear about the early Food Network stuff. Great episode.
The progression from Nervous UA-camr, to Prestigous Interviewer has been so fun to watch! From watching Season 1 to here now in 23, You made it, and then some!!
I need to watch Big Night now. I had to look it up and it stars Tony Shalhoub. He would be an interesting guest on here😅
MONK!
And by the end, dude was sweating like he was outside in a Vegas summer.
This is probably the most honest and humble Bobby flay I’ve seen on the tube. 👍🏻👍🏻 love seeing the depth of people and not just the tv personality.
I think this one is one of the best. Def up there on the favorites. So refreshing and I found myself laughing and smiling throughout the interview.
This is how you know you've got a master: no criticism needed for the sauces. Just looking at the ingredients and predicting what's to come based on that. Bobby's a class act for sure.
Sean's ability to match his guest, bite for bite, drink for drink is amazing. It really makes the show.
One of my new favourite episodes for sure. Such a likable guy. I love how he actually gives a thorough assessment of all the hot sauces. Bobby is an absolute icon in the food industry and he was there from the beginning of the Food Network boom. The dude also looks great all these years later.
Bobby has been one of the most composed player of the wings. I’ve watched every chef that’s been on and Bobby did great!!!!
Alton Brown did the whole run with no milk & no water... You know he's gonna give Bobby a hard time that he chugged that milk... 😁😁
I have to thank Bobby Flay for making my children laugh. I love watching my children laugh. Most precious gift on earth. It cracks me up every time he takes a bite and says “why am I taking such big bites “my kids die laughing and it just cracks me up. These are kids Bobby come on man.🤣😂😁😆
Flay looks as young as he did when i first saw him 20 years ago.
He looks a little more dried out 😂
Sean waving to all the behind-the-camera people is so great! Thanks Erica :)
This is arguably my favorite episode of Hot Ones. I love how Bobby Flay would analyze each hot sauce by looking at the ingredients, smell it first, then describe each flavor.
I like how he describes the flavor pallet of each sauce and tries to keep his composer as his insides are on 🔥🥵 😂
I love the one where he throws down against some guy who has not got the slightest clue who he is. The guy goes outside his shop and call a friend and tells how some guy showed up and is challenging him. It was a riot.
One of the best because he points out the flavors. I could listen to BF talk about food all day and all night. Sean you 're the best.
I’ve seen almost every episode of hot ones, but this seems special. Old school Bobby and new school Sean. I loved the chemistry and respect these two had from the jump. Much love.
Iron chef was a classic I would watch it Saturday nights back in high school and remember seeing Bobby flay there. Man those were the good ol days and I love that he said in n out I completely agree!
Bobby Flay is literally the best. Makes it seem like he could chill with anyone. Great episode!
This is a great interview -- thoughtful questions, as usual, but Bobby Flay is also a well-spoken guest who knows his business inside and out. I'm impressed.
Bobby seems like the most kindest and genuine person ever. What a great episode!
Made me so happy to hear him shout out Mostly Martha. That movie is iconic. “I can’t tell you what kind of sugar you used, but I can tell you what kind of sugar you DIDN’T use.” Classic.
