Training abs with a straight back doesn’t really work. Your abs is making your torso curve, if you're not performing that movement you don't really use the muscles in the optimal way. That's like holding a dumbbell in front instead of curling it up and letting it down

Is the lower back machine comparable to Romanian deadlifts?
No. Rdls are much more complete.
