      Knocking the edges off like that making it look a bit rustic was 100% the right way to go, made it more characteristic imo

    Before you applied paint I thought "Inverted Pineapple"

    I really like the scuffed edges after painting, makes it almost look like it's hand drawn!

    I don't do woodworking myself but I must have watched hundreds of videos from many people. I am still amazed every time I see how strongly wood glue holds things together.

      I'm not Catholic, but I was thinking that if there were a patron saint of patience and craftsmanship, it would be Saint Neil. This guy amazes me. I love watching people who know what they are doing do it, and he definitely qualifies.

    Maybe it’s just me. But does anyone also geek out when Neil uses another Scrap wood challenge project to work on the current scrap wood challenge project! I mean that just makes me feel like something special is happening. I love that mini workbench. This was a great build Neil and I can not wait to replicate it one day. Look forward to tomorrow’s video.

    Thanks for this video. You're videos make things look so easy, and I know they're not always, but you've inspired me to try things I'd previously thought were "too hard" for me. Some worked out, and some didn't, but I learned at every step of the way.

    I was wondering how you'd divide the vessel into equal segments. Ingeniously done! I had no idea there were indexing holes in a chuck. Milk paint was a really good choice, letting the beauty of the wood show thru. Once again, you blow my mind. 🤯

    In the store I saw similar vases and pots but made of plastic. A tree is a tree turned out very nice. Thank you.

    That looks great Neil. I really like the pattern that you put on that. I’ve seen other bowls, hollow forms, pots, vases, or what have you that have been hand carved but most have been carved into a spiral pattern.

    Another painted finishing option I like is to use contrasting paints and partially sanding through. It works well with milk paint.

    Kind of got a nice pineapple feel to it. I like that pattern, though I think if i go to do it, it would be more of a singular band around the base i think. I also like the paint choice. You're absolutely correct with showing off the facets better

    Ever done any chip carving? The knives used for it look like they'd work great for doing that faceted pattern.
    This 7 days of Scrapwood is great!

    Also, I think a good way to have a bit more consistency on the carved recesses would be to drill out the center with a depth mark on the drill bit. Then carve to the bottom of the hole.

      Idk, but when the chisel is sharp its not much about the "chisel" work, but rather the "10 hours long" work, if you get my point
