Been there about 20 times and it never loses its magic. It sort of spoils it for every other place because one tends to compare the beauty of other locations to Yosemite and they always seem to fall short. Even in the Winter it's beautiful and quiet which is nice. They have an outdoor ice skating rink and one can skate at night under the stars for an amazing experience.
I've been binge-watching your videos (started with most recent and I'm about 150 in or so) for the past few weeks during quarantine and as a fellow videographer, I just wanted to commend you on how far you've progressed in framing, storytelling, and sound design especially! It's quite impressive the production value that is here in what should be "just another RV channel" and I truly commend you for the work you've put into this side of your craft. Looking forward to another great episode later today from you guys! Safe travels.
I must say too, this is another great video. Thank you so much for sharing your adventure with us. 25 years ago my wife and I planned a 1 day road trip driving from Davis, CA to Yosemite. Instead, it turned into a 4 day adventure. It truly is MAGICAL!
We went right after Christmas one year and the park was empty, we had it all to ourselves for the most part and to date is still my favorite vacation even though most of the roads were closed due to the snow and a rockslide. Driving through as you said is something you just have to see to believe.
Great video. Brings my childhood back when my Dad and Mom ran the entertainment for the Yosemite Park Curry Company in the summers from 1949-1969. Half Dome Village was Curry Village, and before that when I went there Camp Curry. Where you had your burgers is a 2 minute walk from the Curry Stage where Dad MC'd a nightly variety show, and I was a young stage manager. The Mist trail to Vernal Falls was almost a weekly hike, followed by Nevada Falls and yes, you can make half dome and climb up the back on cables in a day with a knapsack from Happy Isles, long day but worth it. "The Majestic" was the Ahwahnee Hotel where Dad sang for President Kennedy in 1963 and where there used to be a pitch and putt par 3 golf course. Yosemite Lodge near Yosemite Falls (not sure what new name they call that now!) cheaper. It is worth going to Glacier Point for the spectacular views, and on the way stop at the Wawona Hotel (that's what we called it) near the Big Trees of Mariposa Grove--the piano player there, Tom Bopp, is the local musical historian, and friend of our family. Just outside Wawona is the Fresno south entrance and Oakhurst/Fish camp area--good place to stay with amenities, and just go into the park down the road. High country a whole another discussion but Yosemite Valley a MUST SEE!
Great info. We considered hiking from Happy Isles and doing HD in a day and out the Mist Trail. We even had the permits (newly required) ready just in case, but the dates we not working out. You'll see why in the upcoming videos :) I was very disappointed in NDC playing games and forcing the Ahwahnee Hotel to change their name, but the legal battle is not over yet and the name could come back.
Brings back good memories. After some hikes, my family went to Ahwahnee Hotel and had a good relax session on the second floor of the lobby where it was nice and quiet.
SO awesome! we just did our first overlanding trip to Southern Africa. It was so cool , thought it needed to be shared . We even went into a bunker to see animals up close !!!
One of our favorite places on Earth. Lisa and I have done the Panoramic hike several times. You start at Glacier Point and hike down through Illilouette Falls, Nevada Falls, Vernal Falls and finish off by going down the Mist Trailand back to the Valley. Its about a 8.5 mile hike. The only bad part is that you need two cars, one to leave at the bottom of the valley and one to drive up to Glacier Point. We still think its worth it. My Mom lived her last few years in Mariposa and my Brother lives in Cathys Valley. Loved the video a always.
That's great. Yeah, my dad used to coordinate a shuttle and we'd leave a car at the exit. That's how we did the JMT over 15 years. The only section I have left is "north lake south lake" which is a 7 day section. Caleb really wants to backpack so that might end up being a season :)
Wow folks 1 day in Yosemite is not near enough time. Always enjoy your vlogs and after 10 yrs. of drought you could not have picked a more wonderful time to visit. The waterfalls were at there peak. Wish I could have meant up with you and your family. Take care and be safe. Jim in Yosemite, Ca. So sad about the wild fires.
Love Yosemite ! So close to us we are so lucky. Went last year during Father's Day weekend but . . . day cut short because The First family came to visit LOL! was quite the experience with that :). WHICH WE WENT THE ROUTE you had to go !!!! ahhhhh so long.
This video, you show us your sincere and almost intimate glimpse, into Yosemite National. I have never been, I have however worked and lived in Banff on a couple different Hospitality positions and very much like yourselves, I can live in a lot of places but my soul resides in the Canadian Rocky Mountains! I get it....and this music by the way.....Nice! good on you guys, knocked this video out of the (national?) park! Flynn
Beautiful place. The Mrs and I got to see it a couple years ago. We rode a motorcycle from San Francisco through Yosemite then south through the desert passed china lake and south to Los Angeles (Hemmet) then east to the PCH and north back to San Francisco. It was awesome. You guys really know how to do it. You're building memories you couldn't buy.
One more beautiful video! I went to Yellowstone during the 1988 fires, and they made the trip even more memorable.... I sure you do come back to Mexico someday. Let me know! There is SO MUCH MORE to see and do!
Superb video, I love waterfalls in slow motion. I know you had a great backdrop, but I enjoyed this video and the way you put it together (maybe my favorite). Wonderful family and thanks for showing us your life on the road. Love you all.
We were in Lake Tahoe when you posted about Lake Tahoe and now are heading to Yosemite very soon! We were in Albuquerque for the first week of the balloon fiesta too! Thanks for all of the videos!
Awesome video. As young children, my family tent camped there every spring (even if there was snow on the ground) and sometimes in the summer. We got to see the famous "Fire Fall" where they pushed a fire from Glacier Point to the valley floor below. . . it was sooo cool .....but that tradition ended in 1968. I still consider it a "magical, awe-inspiring place."
I recall fire(s) up there, (in certain areas), 40 years ago. Seems with current conditions, fire will continue to be something to anticipate. Thanks for showing, the area is spectacular.
Yosemite is one of my favorite places. I actually live only about 30 miles from the south entrance. I've hiked the mist trail countless times, and each time I'm completely in awe. The last time I did was August 2023 with a group of 14 friends. Unfortunately I sprained and fractured my ankle at the top of Vernal Fall. To add insult to injury, someone stole my trekking poles while we stopped for lunch. I talked to a couple search and rescue guys that happened to be up there, and they recommended hiking another 500' in elevation to Clark Point, and then taking the John Muir trail back. It was about 3 miles back to the parking lot. That was the most painful hike I've ever been on - especially since i lost my footing and rolled my bad ankle a second time before reaching the bridge. Can't wait to go again, though!
Not enjoyable in the slightest, but it would have been a heck of a ride if one was planning on doing it. We didn't get back to Lee Vining until 11pm. Long day. 8 hours in the park and 8 hours of driving.
Me, too! My folks worked for the Yosemite Park & Curry Co. during the summers so they were obviously inspired as well. Spent the first 13 summers of my life there. Mom and Dad ran the entertainment until 1968 when it was deemed inappropriate. They were interviewed on the tv show California Gold with Huell Howser at Camp Currey for the Firefall segment of his show. Saw this and had to chime in!
Thanks for showing us Yosemite-we we're there Sept. 18, came in through Lee Vining, got to the valley and it was so smoked we couldn't see anything, so thanks!
Ugh. Sorry to hear that. It wasn't much better for us. We would have loved to show Glacier Point and other beautiful spots in the Valley, but it's still amazing to be there.
Thank you SO SO SO Much for all your sharing! It has been wonderful to see what we can experience and look forward to. We have been wanting to retire and just get on with it and take the plunge and your videos have helped us feel more comfortable and secure with all your wonderful tips and also the humor! Looking forward to season 4 :)
That's great. We can relate...it feels like forever, but you'll make it happen. We keep pushing for new uncomfortable adventures, so that feeling never goes away!
Per our conversation the other night, if you go again, hike the Panorama trail from Glacier Point to the Yosemite basin. All day hike but WELL worth it!
We camped at the park for a week in early October 2021 the mist trail almost killed me and the falls were not really flowing to keep us going. It was also getting dark. Major props for hiking with the smoke that must have been tough. Yosemite is amazing!
Another fantastic video guys, thank you so much for taking me back to my most favourite place in the world! Back in 2009 I hired a class C RV out of LA and drove up through Mojave to Lee Vining. Picking up the 120 through the Park. It wasn't until we were there that we were advised not to take the RV in to the Valley.... :( Having no other transport, we missed out on so much. That diversion at the end too was a kicker :(
I live about 2 hours from Yosemite so I'm lucky enough to go several times each year. I've hiked the Mist Trail all the way up to Vernal and Nevada Falls. Not an easy hike but I highly recommend it.
Great short geography/history lesson and travel Vlog! You guys are getting more professional as I meander thru your videos chronologically. Love the, " Only your soul can process what your eyes are seeing", quote. Great family, and life lessons for all!
Iam a Little slow been trying to catch-up on your guys videos but gotta say awesome job, I love camping and traviling with my family. Your advise and love for the out doors is outstanding iam glad I have subscribed to ur channel.
This east coaster hopes to make it to Yosemite one of these days. In the time lapse at the end of this video, I thought it was really cool how the waterfall shifted back and forth.
Great video guys as usual. You all are a natural at this. Love watching your adventures. I got only a few years more, and I am retiring, downsized and gone like you...lol
I have said many times to family and friends, America has amazing natural wonders and pictures and films don't even come close to seeing them with your own eyes. Keep the rubber on the road.
You couldn't be more right. Walking up those steps and seeing the giant falls disappear behind the grass horizon didn't even look real. I did the best I could to capture how it looked, but it's just not possible.
Keep Your Daydream You and your family have done a great job on your videos. The information, history, and suggestions a spot on. I tell everyone I meet about your channel for fun and travel reasons. Thanks for what you and your family do.
Hey Guy's, Loved the video! Hopefully the detour didn't take you to far out of the way to return to your trailer. Yosemite is one of my favorite parks. This was back in September, have y'all returned home Hugs, Sandy and Jay Livesay
During WWI, the Ahwahnee Hotel was actually a convalescent hospital for the Navy; my father was there recuperating from a machine shop accident in the Pacific Theater, and also because an incompetent doc had misdiagnosed him as having TB (he didn't)! During his stay, he walked and hiked all over, learning that park like the back of his hand! He loved Yosemite. And you can't see much in just a single day! (Just sayin') ;-)
We stayed at an RV park in Lee Vinning. 2 hrs in and 6 out due to the fire. Long day. No, the burgers were not as good :( And don't eat a burger and fries before hiking 5 miles!
Beautiful vlog! Yosemite Valley looks incredible. The nature is incredible. I'd love to adventure there. Me and my bro explored old Portuguese ruins for our vlog 😁
Sorry about your smokey conditions. ...We here in the Yosemite south gate side have had 4 year's of SMOKEY HELL... This was one of the worst summers. ...I hope there's some YOSEMITE National Park left ...I wish you showed all the fire scars an apocalyptic land scapes... SCARED BY MAN.❗❗❗
Your description and narrative of the Ahwanee Hotel reminds me of Scotty's Castle which was built in 1928 at the cost of about $20 million ... think about that ! Built in the middle of nowhere in Death Valley, a railroad had to be built to bring the materials in to build it. It was patterned after a 15th century Spanish castle and was home to (at the time) the world's largest pipe organ. It entertained Presidents, Kings and dignitaries from around the world. It was furnished with the finest Italian marble and materials from around the world. It was solar heated and air conditioned before any of that technology existed. It's a truly fascinating place and unfortunately, tours are no longer available as I understand it. I feel sorry for the younger generation who will never get to climb to the top of Sunset Crater or tour Scotty's Castle as I have twice in the 1970s. It pays to travel and "get it while you can" as there's no guarantees.
Wow great video!! We’ve stayed in the Yurts there in the village a few years back!! Was that “detour” to get back to your campsite? That was a long trip.
Yosemite! Super sweet. I was just thinking about doing Half Dome the first time with Dad & you, I think you were about 8. Always remember you standing out on the lip at the top. ❤❤
Yes, we've been here a lot. I only wish Yosemite was crisp like it normally is and we had more time to climb half dome again. We'll have to go back. The next time will be my forth time on Half Dome and Tricia's second.
Keep Your Daydream I need to get back myself, such a beautiful place & tons of memories, I think I did HD 3 times, but don't think I could do it now. Great Vlog!
Hi guys I just watching you video of Yosemite and was there probably a week after you but for different reasons than you but I used to go there every year as I was a California girl. I remember when they had the fire falls.I now live in Wisconsin.
Yosemite is the size of Rhode Island. You need more than 3 days,I have lived here 43 of my 55 years and still not seen/hiked it all. I live 16 miles out side the south entrance. I’m sorry you got hit with ine of the many fires we have been dealing with for the last few years but in a bright note the falls were only that amazing in sept because we had an awesome winter of 2017. I hope you will come back some day and enjoy the other side of Yosemite and the Giant Sequoias.
I agree. A little backstory... we've been there at six times. I've hiked the entire JMT (except N. Lake S. Lake section) and climbed Half Dome from the front once and back twice. So we pop'd in just to get some video for the channel while we were close :)
Very nice videos...would like more info Have you guys done a video on the truck you are using to pull your trailer? Looks like a Ford F-150 Platinum Crew Cab. What size engine? Gas or diesel? Suspension enhancements? What is the tow capacity? Payload? Weight of travel trailer? Anything else you can share? Thank you. TomBo
The video is coming. 6.2L Gas. I'm good on the power, but pushing it with the cargo capacity. I've added Firestone Ride Rite and a weight dist. hitch. That's about it.
Thank you for another beautiful video! I'm wondering if you rent out your house when you're gone? I'm currently doing research on rental companies and the pros and cons.
We no longer have a primary home, but are somewhat partial to renting vs selling. Every situation is different. We do have a rental property and pay $88 to have it managed. We can't express how important it is to have a property professionally managed while traveling. Worth the cost and will save you dearly by avoiding a "professional renter".
So beautiful! My husband and I wanted to go and we planned our trip. Got there and everything was closed because of the government shut down in 2013! Such a disappointment, but we will go again!
Our family loves to follow all your videos. Question off topic from your video. We spend 70+ days a year in our trailer and are blowing though tires . I know you had tire problems early season two. What tires are you using / are you happy with your tires?
Interesting your having problems with new tires. Perhaps overloaded on a D rated tire? Or you like driving faster than 65 :) Or your PSI is low. What size rim? I have a 15" rim this is the only E rated tire I could get (link to follow). I've had zero issues with these tires that now have somewhere more than 40k miles on them. Check your weight and then check the PSI charts to make sure you have enough PSI. It's measured cold. www.discounttire.com/buy-tires/hartland-st-radial/p/29485
We took a crazy route because Google made a last min suggestion to go through the windy road after Bishop. I should have known better having done this drive endless times. A map of Season 3 or a SN 3 recap would be good. I'm not sure I can pull that off in the next week or two with the content that is coming. We'll see.
You guys ROCK !!! That was some great views of the area, another place to put on my list !!! Were you there before or after the rock slide? Glad your OK and still enjoying the journey!!!
They had a rock slide about a month or so ago and one person was killed and several people injured !!! I believe the person that was killed was rock climbing and others were injured from rocks falling on the trails and road !!! If you guys are going to the RTR or Escapees gathering in Quartzsite, AZ maybe I will see you there !!! Enjoy The Journey !!! Gary
Hey guys! I watch all your videos! My girls like watching them too. Family friendly material should be more prevalent but I won’t get started. I do photography and videography professionally (but not fulltime) and I have a recommendation. KYD might be popular enough to warrant some upgrades so during your break between seasons (if it's within your budget) please consider buying a GoPro 5 with the Karma grip. I took one to the Amazon jungle for a project (I don’t travel very often) and was very pleased. The Hero 6 is out now but don't worry about having the latest greatest; the 5 is fantastic enough and the price should be even lower. I’m willing to bet the smoothness, sharpness, and steadiness of your footage will amaze you. Then, you could upgrade your larger camera to something like an 80D with a nicer lens. Oftentimes your selfie “interviews” are out of focus. I love helping and improving so take this as a constructive suggestion. Your editing is great and the channel has excellent potential. Keep it up! -Tyler from Chattanooga
Hey there Tyler. Timely post. You'll see GoPro 5 footage on my Karma grip the episode after next :) I picked it up in September - I think the day before the 6 came out... oh well. The next "big camera" will be the Panasonic GH5. I've looked at them all and came to the conclusion that Panasocic was the best option for the type of footage we capture. The other option would be the Sony A7iis, but I don't like the button placement and there were a few other awkward things. I'd like to stick with Canon, but they aren't keeping up with the 4k at 60 options. Perhaps they will have something before I pull the trigger. It would nice to keep my glass. In terms of focus, I use auto focus for selfie interviews and it must be picking up something in the foreground. Perhaps I need to always click a face to lock the subject.
Been there about 20 times and it never loses its magic. Congrats on 5 million plus views. It shows how much your KYD community loves the videos. Wonderful channel keep the great work on the videos!
I lived in California almost all my life, and never made it there, thanks for sharing the beauty of this place.

Thanks for sharing! I love escaping every weekend to wherever your family goes. Cheers.
You guys are making my bucket list so easy for me to list.
Thanks Chris.
You are making me homesick! We used to camp in the Yosemite Valley every summer. One of my favorite places.
One more beautiful video! I went to Yellowstone during the 1988 fires, and they made the trip even more memorable....
I sure you do come back to Mexico someday. Let me know! There is SO MUCH MORE to see and do!
Waterfalls WOW GORGEOUS!!! I hope there wasn't anyone in the camper that got on fire!!
Superb video, I love waterfalls in slow motion. I know you had a great backdrop, but I enjoyed this video and the way you put it together (maybe my favorite). Wonderful family and thanks for showing us your life on the road. Love you all.
Yosemite is so magical. My favorite place in California. Thanks for this episode.
Another great video. Season 3 has been awesome!! Thanks for the inspiration!!
Ya really see the scale when you see the tiny little people on the side of it!
We were in Lake Tahoe when you posted about Lake Tahoe and now are heading to Yosemite very soon! We were in Albuquerque for the first week of the balloon fiesta too! Thanks for all of the videos!
Missed you at the BF by a week! We were in Dana Point during the first week of the BF. Sounds like our paths might cross soon!
We went from the balloon fiesta to Palm Springs and then Dana Point and La Jolla! It was beautiful there!!
So crazy to hear about the fire and how it was started by an RV. You guys were so close to the epicenter. So glad you were all safe.
Great video . Love spending time with your family.
Thank you!! Wonderful to get this info on Yosemite. Can't wait to go. Great video again. And I think it was just the right amount of time.
Absolutely beautiful! Visited Yosemite when I was younger with our family.
Awesome video.

Went last week. The water was AMAZING after this years winter. Can’t wait to go back again.
Yosemite is the most beautiful place I've seen. Also, I hope you enjoyed the detour you had, I've motorcycled those most excellent roads.
Not enjoyable in the slightest, but it would have been a heck of a ride if one was planning on doing it. We didn't get back to Lee Vining until 11pm. Long day. 8 hours in the park and 8 hours of driving.
Amazing guys! I enjoy traveling along thru these wonderful segments! You guys are becoming quite the pros! Thank you for sharing!
Fantastic videography you guys! Beautiful work and we love your videos.
All I can say is beautiful!!!
My parents tell me that I was their best souvenir from Yosemite. :D
Lol. We've met many souvenirs from all over the world.
Me, too! My folks worked for the Yosemite Park & Curry Co. during the summers so they were obviously inspired as well. Spent the first 13 summers of my life there. Thanks for another great video! Your family is an inspiration for sure. I'm finally caught up on all episodes. Can't wait for season 4!
Iam a Little slow been trying to catch-up on your guys videos but gotta say awesome job, I love camping and traviling with my family. Your advise and love for the out doors is outstanding iam glad I have subscribed to ur channel.
Great video! I miss Yosemite, it was amazing!!
You're the best.
So beautiful. You two make a great team!!!! God bless your family.
WOW it was like looking at my Mac's homescreen in this video!! Love it!
Excellent!!!!
As usual, the visuals are amazing! Mark, you do an amazing job of videography and editing! Thank you for ALL of season 3!
Thanks Jonathan. That's a relief to hear. There wasn't as much footage as I would have liked.
Hey Guy's,
Loved the video! Hopefully the detour didn't take you to far out of the way to return to your trailer. Yosemite is one of my favorite parks. This was back in September, have y'all returned home
Hugs,
Sandy and Jay Livesay
Only 6 hours! Err. But it was still worth it :)
Wow. Absolutely beautiful. I love the transitions in your videos.
Thanks for another beautiful video
Wow. So beautiful. Anderson says, let's go there next! (Ha ha)
How were the burgers? Were they as great as you remember? Thanks for the video and info on the Mist trail. where did you stay at while you were there?
We stayed at an RV park in Lee Vinning. 2 hrs in and 6 out due to the fire. Long day. No, the burgers were not as good :( And don't eat a burger and fries before hiking 5 miles!
Thanks for entertaining my family for weeks now! We are so excited about our trip. We will be in Yosemite and wondered where you guys stayed.
Beautiful vlog! Yosemite Valley looks incredible. The nature is incredible. I'd love to adventure there.
Me and my bro explored old Portuguese ruins for our vlog 😁
Wow!
Great Vlog!
beautiful
Hi guys I just watching you video of Yosemite and was there probably a week after you but for different reasons than you but I used to go there every year as I was a California girl. I remember when they had the fire falls.I now live in Wisconsin.
beauty a gift from GOD
Love Yosemite! My uncle got married at that hotel!
Awesome place. We are looking for a similar rig as yours. Does Ginger have integrated brakes with your truck?
Yes, elec. trailer brakes and a brake controller in the cab.
Excellent video. Really great editing, thanks.
Thanks!
Gorgeous hotel. Love you guys
Amazing filming!
Ok, now you're in my back yard 🙂🌲🌲🌲I live just a tad north of Yosemite, in Twain Harte. Loving your videos~
Very nice videos...would like more info
Have you guys done a video on the truck you are using to pull your trailer?
6 days on the face of a rock!
::::lovely::::...thank you...
As soon as you guys said u don’t recommend going on the trail up rocks with a heavy backpack 🎒 the first day two guys are walking 🚶 up slowly lol 😂🤣😁
Are you going to show the map of your season 3 trip. I would like to see
your route from yosemite to Las Vegas .
Didn't hear about the Rock Slide. We were there on Sept 5th or 6th.
Double thumbs in an upwardly direction.
That was beautiful! Love the falls!! Looking forward to VEGAS!!! Well done again, great and powerful Marc ;) ha ha ! #insidersdeletedscenes
Thanks Dean. There were a couple funny scenes in this episode. One personally embarrassing to me, but I'll post anyway.
