Experiencing Firefall in Yosemite National Park

- Yosemite National Park is home to firefall, one of the most amazing natural wonders that happens only a few times every year. During mid to late February, Horsetail Fall lights up with the sunset and looks like it is flowing lava. I wanted to take my dad to experience this amazing natural event, so we made the drive up and spent a crazy 24 hours in Yosemite Valley. Here is what we did.

I've watched several of your videos and have enjoyed them all. But I've never commented till now. This one made me cry. It was May of 2019 when my wife I went home to California to visit my brother. On the list was a day trip to Yosemite. It will be the last time I got to see my brother as he would pass away a week later. He was 55.
So well done.

Brought tears to my eyes. I haven't been to Yosemite since the early 80's. Backpacked from Tuolumne Meadows to the valley floor. Most beautiful place I've ever been. Never saw firefall so Thank You!
Any day in Yosemite is an awesome day! My family has been going to Yosemite since 1930’s. My dad hiked to the top of Half Dome when he was a young man growing up in San Francisco. He came to the valley to view the original Fire Fall. That view that you said was one of your favorite views was from the bridge looking at Half Dome. That’s MY ABSOLUTE FAVORITE. That is my happy place. I took a picture of that in February of 2010 that turned out beautiful! We stayed at the Lodge and ate in the cafe during our visit. It was really nice! Thanks for sharing this. Glad you could experience it with your dad. Special memories!
You are truly blessed to share so many good memories with your old man. I live over a thousand miles from my parents, and barely can travel with them to places like this on a day trip distance. Be well.

Seeing you take this trip with your dad is so beautiful. I have been wanting to do a trip with my parents from SoCal to Big Sur, SFO on highway 1 and then Yosemite, Sequoia etc, It's a dream of mine.

My favorite part was seeing a grown son and father spending this time together. I’ve never spoken to my father past 8 years old. Important to remember to do these things with my daughter as she ages. Great views of the park!

I thought you showed great restraint in only declaring 3 “one of your favorite views.” I can’t imagine how anyone could come up with just one favorite view of Yosemite, there’s an amazing view around every corner and every season!
My husband and I got to visit Yosemite for the first time this past October. It was an amazing experience! I was brought to literal tears from seeing Tunnel View! That view right out of the tunnel....WOW! 😍 I watched all of your Yosemite videos while planning the trip. The info and tips you provided was invaluable. So thank you so much for such great content.
We were actually booked to stay at that same hotel in Oakhurst but had to change to the Tenaya Lodge due to an area wide power blackout. Definitely an upgrade 😁.

Everyday is a perfect day in Yosemite. I saw the firefall when I was a college student in the 60's, from both the top & in the valley at Camp Curry. Truly awesome.
Yosemite National Park #1 in my book. The first time I saw it was with my dad many years ago. One of my favorite places in the world.

Excellent! Josh loved you and Pops video to see the Firefall! I think this was the year to visit, with the lack of crowds...drats, I missed it. I was amazed with the shortage of crowds at the photo site, lack of crowds at the cafeteria...in years past the crowds have been ever present and a major logistical challenge to overcome.
Glad Pops finally got to see it! I think this video is my favorite of yours, with the Route 66 and Highway 50 series coming in seconds. I was suprised that you got to park at Cathedral Beach (or did you and Pops walk?) As always I love these videos with Pops...I think it is cool that you and he get along so well...this is precious time that you get to spend with each other, and these moments will always have a fond spot in your heart!😁👍

Headed there in a few days for sheer enjoyment of Yosemite and an opportunity to photograph one of my all time favorite National Parks. Been visiting for over 60 years, hiking, backpacking and wandering around. Loved your video and Dad experience.

Feb 2020 my photographer friend and I scored a cabin for two nights in Yosemite during firefall. However there was no water in the falls so we skipped the firefall crowd and got incredible pictures at sunset of half dome at the bridge over the Merced River. And great midday photos at mirror lake. It was super overcast but very gorgeous. The night we got there from SoCal, we got through tunnel view at sunset. Tho overcast when the sunset suddenly the sun came out and we got a huge rainbow 🌈 over the valley at tunnel view. Hearing the gasps was worth the drive. Yosemite never disappoints. You got such a perfect year to see Yosemite firefall at horsetail falls. Last year it was too crowded. You got to see it without the insane crowds. So amazing. I hope I get to see firefall with my own eyes. Thanks for sharing yours.

Very nice video. I was able to go for the first time to the valley 2018 with my parents, wife, and in-laws and it was an awesome experience being this iconic landmark. Wish we could have come when I was younger in the bay area but still enjoyed every minute with my loved ones.
