  • Banff National Park could be the highlight of Season 3. RVing the Canadian Rockies seems to get even better every week. In this episode we start out in Coeur d’Alene, ID and talk about how to be prepared to cross the border. Then we leave for the Fairmont Hotel next to Lake Louise at the crack of 12:09 before making our way to Lake Moraine. We get up close with a bear & caribou on the Bow Valley Parkway. Then we take a hike at Johnston Canyon Lower Falls.

You genuinely have no idea how hard I laughed at Calebs shoe joke on the drift wood. I know we, as viewers, only get to see a slither of your life on the road but I hope so much everything is as much fun for you.....as you portray in these videos. Beautyful area, great video. We went there 2006, in April/May. Not crowded at all. We went to Pytoo lake. Road still covered with snow at that time of the year, hiked up to the view point. Been there all alone, sunshine, warm. It was awesome. The view, the frozen lake....was one of the best spots during our trip.

I have done that hike several times, as a little kid, when I proposed to my wife up there, and last year our whole family hiked it for the first time (Myself, my wife, 6 year old, 4 year old, 2 year old).

Also if you ever return...go another 30-ish minutes past Lake Louise and you're in BC, particularly in Field, BC. Just east of Field by a very few kilometres is the road to Takakkaw Falls. You cannot tow your trailer up there because of the major switchback on the way up. Leave it in the lot below right after turning in or at your campsite like you did when going to Moraine. The falls are spectacular and worth the small road trip.
Then, go a couple or so kilometres past Field, headed westbound, and turn right and take the road up to Emerald Lake - another sight not to be missed. Nice easy hike around the lake. On the way back down, stop at The Natural Bridge - it's kinda cool. All of these are in Yoho National Park which abuts BNP and Kootenay National Park (KNP) which you drove through coming from Radium. Lots of great spots to stop in KNP too.
You came up through Cranbrook/Kimberley from Eastport/Kingsgate - Hwy 3 is a bit more roundabout way to get to Banff but a far more scenic drive PLUS before coming north to Banff you could swing down to Waterton National Park which is an utter jewel. Several things to do on the trip north - Head-Smashed-In-Buffalo-Jump for one...
So many awesome things to do here. 😊

Yes, but sorry we didn't get to see you. We'll be back. GNP is still on our list now. So many places to see! Never enough time.

Sad that you guys didn’t do the Canyon hike at midnight. It’s the best time to do it. Leave at 1030. One your at the pots the stars will reset your view on the universe.

The first time I was at the Chateau Lake Louise was in late August, 1971, on my way to Fairbanks. I do not remember it being called the Fairmont. The ice fields further north in Jasper were amazing, too. Wonderful documentaries you folks put out.

I was the middle child in a family of 5 also. I know how you feel with the late starts/late arrivals. It wasn't until my siblings had kids that I realized that WE were the reason mom was late alot, not mom, lol. Well, my sister and brother mostly. I was a lot less maintenance, lol
