I live in a small mountain resort town in California. We originally moved here because it wasn't used by tourists very much however, a certain group of people moved here and started promoting us. Well now it is a nightmare living here. Maybe it is just our brand of tourist, but they are rude and act like idiots. They park in the turn outs so if you have a flat tire or a break down you can't get off the road. They walk all over the streets in town, pull out without looking and then proceed to give you dirty looks if you dare try to drive your car through town to get to where you need to go. STRs have ruined our neighborhoods and made our lives a misery. They leave trash everywhere and make it impossible to go out to eat on the weekends. We can also no longer attend local events like the tree lighting, concerts, trick or treat and parades because they are over run with tourists. We used to love living here, but now not so much.

Short term rentals are a common theme in the downfall of many resort towns.

@@livinginnorthernaz Yes they are! My neighbor was sitting out on his deck and almost got shot by an arrow because the people staying at the STR next door to him decided it would be fun to do some archery. Unfortunately, they weren't very good and luckily my neighbor is a marathon runner and was able to jump out of the way without getting injured.

The tourists pay our taxes and provide jobs.
