  • Hey y’all! Today I’m sharing my recipe for Homemade Dirty Rice. No boxed mix will even come near it! This dish is just layered with flavor. It is so good, fam! Watch as I walk you through how to make it from scratch.
    Start by making the rice. I use a rice cooker, but if you don’t have one, simply cook the rice on your stovetop. Just be sure to rinse it beforehand to remove the excess starch. I like to cook the rice in beef broth instead of water. It just makes it that much more flavorful. Next, prepare and cook the chicken gizzards. If you're not a fan of chicken gizzards, you can definitely leave them out. Brown the beef in a skillet, add in peppers, onions, andouille sausage, chicken gizzards, rice and seasonings. Once everything is heated through, it’s done! Try it with a side of greens, a slice of cornbread and sweet potato pie for dessert. Oh LAWD!

    OH yeah, that's how it's done Rosie!!! Great recipe!!! It just isn't the same without the gizzards.

    I've always boiled the gizzards, only because that's how my mother did them. Never once have I thought about baking them, and I'll bet they're a whole lot more flavorful. Gotta try that!
    All that's missing is a final sprinkle of Slap Ya Mama. :-)
    I'm snagging a copy of the recipe for my "collection."

    It looks yummy! My mom was from OK and the depression - so she didn't waste anything - including chicken innerd parts. I actually used to like to eat gizzards but nowadays, I don't think I'd be up to preparing it from raw. Besides, I can't remember ever seeing it in the market. Mom also would fry the heart, liver and neck. Daddy loved those parts - blech!! A chicken doesn't even come with a neck anymore - at least not where I live!!

    • @iheartrecipes
      @iheartrecipes  9 років тому +2

      LOL!! My mom never wasted any parts of the chicken either. Gizzards, necks, backs...everything was used.. I never thought about it, but you're right.. What happened to the chicken necks?! haha

      my mom was an old time jewish cook, and NO CHICKEN SOUP would be complete without using the necks, hearts, chicken gizzards and necks. they gave the soup flavor. we'd eat those parts when the soup was done.

      Hello! I'm curious about something. If you know how to make this dish the "RIGHT way" why did you watch? I'm sure you know everyone cooks differently. Therefore this is how "I.... Rosie" makes dirty rice. If you'd like to upload a video, and share your recipe, that would be great, but please don't tell me how to make mine. Thanks!
