I swear that as a young pre-teen and into my teen age year's I could chant this Mass in my Sleep. While it very Beautiful and all it was often overused and most people in Parishes didn't get to share in the "other" Masses. Beautiful Voices and Excellent tempo too.

It's overused in some places, but in most, no one knows even this one

Such a beautiful melody, but sometimes I wonder: How much are the melody and the emotions of the musical scores connected with the ordinarium and their meaning, their words, emotions... Maybe Kyrie should be, I don't know hot to put it, less "happy". Because Kyrie is a prayer of forgiveness, of saying sorry, and evem though God is very merciful, it should perhaps sound more like asking for forgiveness, amd less as being forgiven already, even though that's the case after we confess...

This is exactly my opinion. Beautiful melody here, yes. But I dislike this version. The Kyrie should be in a minor key. It's repentant and mournful. Not happy.

I understand your opinion - you have made a valid point here. I can understand the other side too. It is also "the youngest" Kyrie of the Graduale - almost all the others are some centuries older.

I think that the Kyrie in this point of the mass can be understood more as a acknowledgement that we are beggars before God - depedents of His forgiveness - and He has already heard us than actually a confession of sin. But you make a good point, sounds more like a confession.

Jurgen Mateus Eichelbaum since a year passed, I noticed that it should be viewed from a more theological perspective, and since I am not doing that professionally, should either let it be or learn more. Interesting topic nevertheless!

On the subject of major and minor keys, the old musical world did not separate keys as we do now, but rather , modes were used. Our rather simple idea of minor=sad and major=happy did not take root until the 17th century. So one can find Christmas motets such as O Magnum Mysterium by Victoria which sound as if in a minor key (a minor key at Christmas???!!!!) and similarly, a Requiem Mass may be in a major key, eg the one by Richafort.
Now I do not actually know when Missa de Angelis was written, one assumes some time in the 15th century or before. But the concept of major and minor was not really around at that time.

write at least a three sentence reflection on it. This should discuss elements such as emotional content/effect, genre, and instrumentation. Please be detailed!
