Yeah, she had no choice but to go with her because she knew Azula would do whatever it took to get her to join her side; just like what happened at the circus, she knew that Azula will go to the circus every night to make her time a living hell if she kept refusing her.
Actually, many have theorized that Mai was just as much pressured into following Azula as Ty Lee was. Given how she shows concern for her younger brother, Tom-Tom, in the comics, Mai was likely very angry with Azula when she called off the deal to exchange Tom-Tom for King Bumi. She simply had no choice but to follow Azula's orders even though it meant putting her brother in danger.

I think Yun might be Avatar Kuruk's son. I think after Kuruk lost his wife he got insanely drunk one night out of depression and slept with Yun's mother, got her pregnant, and she stole one of his journal's that had his pai sho technique's recorded on there. Hei Ran even stated that Yun has Kuruk's smile.
Agree with several placings, although I feel Yakone deserves to be higher on this list. Enjoyed his powers, hurt people for sport, showed no remorse, either for civilians or his kin.
There’s actually one villain missing from this list. Chin the Conqueror who fell to his death when Kyoshi separated her island from the Earth Kingdom mainland.
We don’t know where he stands morally.. Kyushu described him as a ruthless and selfish tyrant while many many earth kingdom citizens say he was a benevolent ruler who wanted to overthrow an ACTUAL tyrant
In my from sympathetic to evil list, Jet is currently the second most sympathetic (the first being Zuko, with Iroh not being a villain at all). I Might change my mind, but that's the current direction. Sozin is 4th place, as he's definitely worse than any character who isn't Ozai (most evil), Unalak (2nd most evil) or the PE warden.

Actually. Azula killed someone in the series. She killed Aang, but Katara brought him back with the special water. Also, she would have killed Mai if Tylee hadn't stopped her. And almost killed Iroh. And almost every accomplishment in Ozai's reign was really thanks to Azula. The fall of Ba sing se, the plan of burning the entire Erath kingdom...Probably even the fall of Omashu if I remember correctly...

When you read the Yangchen novels, you’ll probably have to update this list to include these villains: Thapa, Chaisee, and Kalyaan. FYI, I think Kuvira got off way too easy in the ruins of the Empire storyline. Even if she helped to stop Guan and reverse the brainwashing of team avatar, she belongs in prison for everything she did.
I think there isnt much difference in terms of evil between trying to kill but failing and actually killing. Azula being perfect example of that when she fully intended to kill Aang it just happened that Katara had magical healing water but if Katara wasnt there then Azula would have killed Aang with a smirk on her face.
Well, Ozai does have a couple of minor redeeming qualities: he saved Zuko from drowning when Zuko was a child. He also spared Zuko's life, albeit in a twisted way: he poisoned Azulon in exchange for not murdering his own son because of the lack of empathy Ozai showed when talking about Iroh losing Lu Ten to Azulon. Remember that after Ozai expressed a lack of interest in his brother losing his son, Azulon told him to murder Zuko so he could also understand the pain of losing a son. Moreover, he advised, albeit in his own twisted way, his own son on how to have the mindset to be a good Fire Lord regarding having a strong determination to make difficult decisions. This was in the book where Zuko and Aang briefly fought. I forgot the name of the comic, but it is an amazing read. This doesn't take out the fact that he still should be number 1, but just pointing out because you said Ozai had ZERO redeeming aspect, and also shows that even people with high level of Dark Triad traits does have their few redeeming moments here and there, although they are quite rare.
I would maybe switch up Iroh and Zuko. As you said Zuko never majorly hurt anybody and at his core he always knew that what his country was doing was wrong. Iron on the other hand wrote letters joking about killing innocent people and I do not believe that he played siege on ba sing se without doing some gruesome things himself. I totally agree with Iroh having redeemed himself but since in my opinion Zuko never went as far as Iroh did he should be at the bottom.
I completely agree with this. Iroh would be far higher if we saw his backstory. He was a military general for the Fire Nation after all and before Lu Ten‘s death he didn‘t consider the harm the war was causing. For all his faults, Zuko was pretty much narrowed in on Aang not caring much about anyone else.
Glad you added a few Kyoshi Characters from the books for those that haven't read them yet, I think Tagaka should be on the list even though she was like the "1st boss" to fight and Yun shouldn't be so high because of him genuinely being good until he was betrayed and basically possessed.
Also, I just want to point out that even though Azula didn’t kill anyone, there was a few times she almost succeeded. And she wouldn’t have batted an eye if she did. The closest she ever came to killing someone (that I know of) was Aang himself, when she shot him with a very lethal lightning blast, WHILE Aang was in the Avatar State. Some may argue that Aang WAS dead for a moment. If Katara didn’t use the spirit water on Aang, he would have stayed dead and the Avatar would cease to exist. Whether Azula knew the Avatar would never be reincarnated after that, I have no idea. But she really could have ended the Avatar, permanently.
Zuko was still alive tho. Although he was seriously injured, I didn't think he looked like he was on the verge of death. Aang, however, was killed as soon as he got shot. So ur right about that.
I think you should have included Varrick on this list as he did fuel a lot of the violence in the water tribes civil war selling weapons to both sides leading to intense conflict that most likely ended in many deaths/injuries. He obviously had a great redemption and wasn't even a cruel guy so he would have ranked pretty low on this list but in my books he was still a villain at some point
I'm reminded of the scene where Varrick has reservations about building an allegory for nuclear weapons for Kuvira. In real life history, industrialists like Varrick had absolutely no qualms whatsoever supporting fascists like Kuvira (Henry Ford is a great example, also look at the Business Plot to overthrow Roosevelt). The best part is that even Varrick makes a comment on how weird it is for him to be developing a conscience, as if he himself realizes that he's a fictional character based off of people who would have fully supported Kuvira and profited from her expansion.
Some corrections: 1. Rue isn't a bender 2. It wasn't Aang's idea to take away Liling's bending, it was Toph's. 3. Liling tried to bury her own freaking daughter ( Rue ) alive. That seems pretty evil.
Rue's sister yalin was the 2nd person to beat toph , she is better than toph in fight , and she proved that to toph. Sokka saved toph at the last moment. It was 1v1

Something i want to say about Zhao is that he said something absolutely true to Zuko. "If your father really wanted you home he would have already accepted you back,Avatar or no Avatar". Thats not a villian moment He legit dropped the bad guy personality for a bit there and just told Zuko the truth. That was a wake up call that Zuko needed. He wasnt telling it in a villianus MUAHAHA way,he got serious looked him in the eyes and told him how it really was. He wasnt being smug or trying to provoke him etc. Zuko should have known that from the start,he shouldn't have wanted to please his abuser. Ozai was just looking for an excuse to have him away cause he despised him. He did change his mind on Zuko after he returned cause he saw Zuko as now being strong and worthy of being his successor but it was only for the most cruel reasons. Ozai indeed was going to do the same thing as Sozin did but much worse. Definetly the most evil character
Neither of them have any redeemable traits but people see Ozai as more evil because we are shown more of it rather than told. We see the result of Zuko, being brutally burned and exiled for speaking against a plan. Azula, who was permanently ruined. Ursa, for quite literally needing a new face to get away. We see the results of Ozais rule where as with Unalaq and Vaatu we just see his big battle and their fusion. They weren’t that built up imo

Unalaq literally caused chaos to the Southern Water Tribe, caused his brother to get banished from the Northern Water Tribe, manipulated and used both of his children, set free Vaatu, the LITERAL embodiment of evil for power and to cause darkness to the entire world, just to get placed under Azula, who was mentally ill, called a monster by her mother, and was used as a weapon for Ozai. Ozai deserves to be number one. Unlike every other villain, who have redemptions/have redeemable qualities or has an excuse for being evil, Ozai was just evil from birth, basically the Voldemort of the Avatar universe.

How is Unalaq only 6th? The man betrayed his brother, was behind an attempt to kidnap Korra, his nephew, when she was a child, then he became a dictator over the south pole (which are supposed to be the people he is most related to after the population of the north pole), made an unfair trial to make his brother look even worse, and of course: tried to kill Korra (again, his nephew) and make the world enter an era of darkness for 10000 years. How is that not firat place?
His motive was basically an ultimate boomer villian. He didn’t like humans and favored spirits so he wanted the world to go back to its old days which is why he went to republic city first. He wanted destruction to the progressive world so it’ll go back.
Jason Isaacs is an amazing actor and voice actor who doesn't get enough roles anymore. I literally read Lucius Malfoy's words in his voice. He did an amazing job voicing the Grand Inquisitor in Rebels and I was incredibly disappointed when he didn't return to play the character in live action
Mai and Ty lee were both fearful of alzua add Mai’s parents parenting of her when she was very young rememberer I love zuko more than I fear you Mai to alzua at the boiling rock. Then add Ty lee’s family life and feeling like she didn’t have a individual identity made her a easy person to manipulate for a time
I always felt like it was a poor choice to make Ozai a flat, one-dimensional embodiment of evil rather than showing significant depth like Azula. I get that it made him scarier, but it didn't make him as interesting. In "The Search," Zuko's talks with him shows a bit more of Ozai's perspective, and I wish the show did that a bit more.

I completely agree on putting Ozai above Sozin. I think it’s worth mentioning that Ozai was going to torch the ENTIRE EARTH KINGDOM. Which is like 1000 times larger than the four Air Temples all put together. He wouldn’t just be commiting mass genocide, he would also be responsible for the extinction of hundreds if not thousands of species of animals and insects only found in the Earth Kingdom. Ozai would have single-handedly caused the same amount of casualties in WW2 with that single action.
It’s not that Azula didn’t have a conscience, but because of her twisted upbringing, it took the form of someone who she wanted love from the most. It doesn’t excuse what she did, but i wouldn’t say she’s pure evil.

I think you should have included Varrick on this list as he did fuel a lot of the violence in the water tribes civil war selling weapons to both sides leading to intense conflict that most likely ended in many deaths/injuries. He obviously had a great redemption and wasn't even a cruel guy so he would have ranked pretty low on this list but in my books he was still a villain at some point
I'm reminded of the scene where Varrick has reservations about building an allegory for nuclear weapons for Kuvira. In real life history, industrialists like Varrick had absolutely no qualms whatsoever supporting fascists like Kuvira (Henry Ford is a great example, also look at the Business Plot to overthrow Roosevelt). The best part is that even Varrick makes a comment on how weird it is for him to be developing a conscience, as if he himself realizes that he's a fictional character based off of people who would have fully supported Kuvira and profited from her expansion.

3. Liling tried to bury her own freaking daughter ( Rue ) alive. That seems pretty evil.
Rue's sister yalin was the 2nd person to beat toph , she is better than toph in fight , and she proved that to toph. Sokka saved toph at the last moment. It was 1v1

Vaatu is made evil and cant control it. Ozai KNEW what he was doing is evil and enforced it.
Neither of them have any redeemable traits but people see Ozai as more evil because we are shown more of it rather than told. We see the result of Zuko, being brutally burned and exiled for speaking against a plan. Azula, who was permanently ruined. Ursa, for quite literally needing a new face to get away. We see the results of Ozais rule where as with Unalaq and Vaatu we just see his big battle and their fusion. They weren’t that built up imo

Unalaq literally caused chaos to the Southern Water Tribe, caused his brother to get banished from the Northern Water Tribe, manipulated and used both of his children, set free Vaatu, the LITERAL embodiment of evil for power and to cause darkness to the entire world, just to get placed under Azula, who was mentally ill, called a monster by her mother, and was used as a weapon for Ozai. Ozai deserves to be number one. Unlike every other villain, who have redemptions/have redeemable qualities or has an excuse for being evil, Ozai was just evil from birth, basically the Voldemort of the Avatar universe.

The man betrayed his brother, was behind an attempt to kidnap Korra, his nephew, when she was a child, then he became a dictator over the south pole (which are supposed to be the people he is most related to after the population of the north pole), made an unfair trial to make his brother look even worse, and of course: tried to kill Korra (again, his nephew) and make the world enter an era of darkness for 10000 years. How is that not firat place?

His motive was basically an ultimate boomer villian. He didn’t like humans and favored spirits so he wanted the world to go back to its old days which is why he went to republic city first. He wanted destruction to the progressive world so it’ll go back.

Jason Isaacs is an amazing actor and voice actor who doesn't get enough roles anymore. I literally read Lucius Malfoy's words in his voice. He did an amazing job voicing the Grand Inquisitor in Rebels and I was incredibly disappointed when he didn't return to play the character in live action

I always felt like it was a poor choice to make Ozai a flat, one-dimensional embodiment of evil rather than showing significant depth like Azula. I get that it made him scarier, but it didn't make him as interesting. In "The Search," Zuko's talks with him shows a bit more of Ozai's perspective, and I wish the show did that a bit more.

I think it’s worth mentioning that Ozai was going to torch the ENTIRE EARTH KINGDOM. Which is like 1000 times larger than the four Air Temples all put together. He wouldn’t just be commiting mass genocide, he would also be responsible for the extinction of hundreds if not thousands of species of animals and insects only found in the Earth Kingdom.
Ozai would have single-handedly caused the same amount of casualties in WW2 with that single action.

It’s not that Azula didn’t have a conscience, but because of her twisted upbringing, it took the form of someone who she wanted love from the most. It doesn’t excuse what she did, but i wouldn’t say she’s pure evil.
Unalaq should be higher than six. This man was on the verge of sending the world into 10,000 years of chaos and darkness. Almost wiped out the entire Avatar line and purposely almost killed Korra while in the Avatar State and tried recreating the Avatar under his own power but to be evil. Not only that he betrayed zaheer and his cronies to gain more power which sent them into a further plunge. Him at 6 is a massive disagreement for me. He was by far the most evil character in legend of Korra.
