You should watch vinland saga the story is masterpeace
The first version of this song was made for the previous Nier game, that is also a really - really great piece with a different instrumentation.
The name of the first version is: Song of the Ancients - Fate ua-cam.com/video/5FaEtvA_11A/v-deo.html
Although every version is great in its own way, i like the older version more than the others.
There are real instruments, airy sound, tempo, really the best.
Can you react that ost "Echo of starsong" from Opus: Echo of starsong full bloom. It's have same language as this song.
DrumRollTony could you please put a link to the vid you reacted to in the description, thank you.
@@Stuy777 LOL its literally IN the video description
Nier Automata is probably the best video game ost i have ever heard. It is so beautiful, sad, tragic, hopeful and just magically otherworldly. I love it
Darkengard****
Darkengard not Nier
I'd argue Replicant's was more memorable but you can't go wrong with either one. Both are masterpieces.
@@blackice3403 Both? Both.
Hollow Knight
Getting to hear this live in Chicago in 2020 was a memory that will never fade. Also getting to hear Emi Evans do Weight of the world live was beyond amazing!
That is very cool
Same I was there too.
I was there and I will never forget the chills and all the feels that concet made me feel
I envy you!
what i didnt know about this im heartbroken i would kill for this 😭😭😭😭😭😭😭
The neat thing about the music in these games is that all the vocals are sung in what's called "Chaos Language" which doesnt translate to anything. It was done this was so they could put vocals to the music without people getting distracted by the vocals.
Not to totally nerd out, but part of what makes me love this soundtrack is how it is an amazing blend of techniques from various periods of music. You got some dissonances that don't resolve in a classical way, you have chord movement that aren't the standard "down a fifth, down a third, up a second" from classical writing (that's been drilled into me when I had to write a fugue to demonstrate 18th century counterpoint)... but you also have chord inversions that just make beautiful moves that aren't really utilized as much in modern music (and, as a music composer, I'm equally guilty of the "just put everything in root position and let the progression sort itself out" pitfall). Sometimes the soundtrack uses natural minor and sometimes it uses harmonic minor.. everything seems to be intentionally done to have the correct mood for every situation and it's.. just.. *chef kiss*
Like, the part at 5:49 has a i>V(second inversion)>i(first inversion)>I7(first inversion)>IV move--in the key of Cm, it would be Cm>G/D>Cm/Eb>C7/E>F--that gives such simple chords, but that bassline walking upward just gives that beautiful movement that would've been, dare I say, boring if it was all in root position (despite the absolutely gorgeous melody, harmonization, and counterpoints that play over it) or if the composer simply went Cm>Dm>Eb>E(dim)7>F. Plus, the use of I7 in a minor key to set up a secondary dominant V7-i in the iv... okay, I'll stop with that tangent, lol. I believe the next part, if this was Cm, would be F>Cm/Eb>Dm7(b5)>G7(#9? I think I hear it, but my ear isn't as good as it used to be). Still emphasizing that stepwise movement in the bass while giving ONE jump (the Dm7(b5) to G7) to set up a classical-esque ii-V to the i. Yet, some of the chord extensions (or non-diatonic/chromaticism if you see it that way) used in the harmonies of the inner voices feels definitely more neo-classical than romantic/classical.
(Sorry for absolutely dorking out like this in the comment section. Normally I just watch videos and enjoy the content that's provided, but this song actually had a profound influence on me when I first heard it and, to a degree, had/has an influence over my music writing nowadays. I'll go and stay quiet now, lol.)
the passion in this comment hits so hard, thank you so much for sharing
Oi don’t shut up now, I wanna know what’s up technically speaking ❤
I don't know half of what you're talking about, but please continue, your love and passion for music is shining through and I want a whole ass lecture from you lmao
Dont stay quiet! Lol I love to see people passionately nerding out, it is really nice to see how people put effort on things they love
Don’t apologize. It’s awesome to read opinions on music and summaries of what’s going on. Was a clarinet player for 10 years. Love how amazing and how much love goes into these games soundtracks.
Great choice with the orchestral, hope the channel continues down the Keiichi Okabe arc
Keiichi Okabe is a legend
sometimes there simply are no words in the human vocabulary that can describe just how good this type of music is.
Love it , More orchestral reactions
You should play this game! The musics on their own are already some of the best compositions ever, but the way the sounds are "played" by the game, it's nothing short of genius work. Anyone that loves music will for sure fall in love with this game.
Some of the music absolutely needs context for maximum impact
Headphones on, this song playing: It’s winter time, Snow is falling and you’re just walking around. Either in the woods, down the street, or through town: It truly is magical.
The Song of the Ancients we see in the game feels like an ember.
This...Feels like... The moment after Twilight, as the moon becomes visible, and a single firework goes off, only to fade as stars slowly light up the sky.
I have this track on vinyl (NieR Replicant 10+1 Years - Devola and Popola, also have the other albums in a box edition + Automata and Gestalt & Replicant vinyl box edition, all of the tracks are beautiful), it's a really epic song, always gives me goosebumps and makes me cry, because I know the story of NieR Replicant and NieR:Automata.
is nier replicant worth it to play? ive played automata and loved it but replicant is always hard to find and kinda expensive.
@@shwildin they made a remaster/remake of Replicant recently called Nier Replicant ver 1.22, you should definitely play it
@@shwildin completely. You won't regret it
@@shwildin Hard to find? Didn't they just release a remaster or was that too different from the original?
@@AkaiInaThe remaster was really good imo
I had the chance to live this orchestral concert in London. It is one of the memory i will cherish the most my whole life. NieR music is something else. Keiichi Okabe is a musical genius.
I had chills and tears hearing this again with your reaction. Glad you're finnaly discovering the work of Keiichi Okabe with NieR's musics.
Okabe is master of tempo, however when it comes to strings. The wizard is Keigo Hoashi.
I love this rendition of song of the ancients, it really captures the energy of the piece and gives us a little extra spicy sauce on top with those brass horns, I love it.
The first few seconds gave me heavy chills (update: and so did the rest of the OST multiple times). I need to check the OST collection out. This sounds like the work of a master composer.
I doubt that you can ever find better Ost than Nier games ones man trust me on that, i finished the games since 3 years and still obsessed with them
it absolutely is. Check out the Nier series, literally CANNOT go wrong with their ost. generation-defining stuff
this actually brought me to tears
Me too
So glad he's doing more Nier Automata. Award winning soundtrack for a reason and should definitely look at more
I was actually present during that orchestral concert, they were in a world wide tour. I went to their first concert of that year at Chicago in January 2020. They ended up canceling the tour due to covid.
The moment when you compliment the orchestra for paring back to just the percussion and light notes before immediately being blasted by the big brass
Holy! I felt this song in my soul! Haven't had this kind of feeling from a song in a very long time.
I was at the Nier concert in Berlin last week and my God.. Best experience of my life, for real.
Song of the Ancients might be one of my favorite musics on NieR's OST and maybe one of my favorite on videogames OST in general. Every version of this song is pure gold
when the choir starts singing at 5:30 it reminds me so much of the choir of the Evangelion's ost "Peaceful Times", such a majestic sound
If there is a game soundtrack that as a whole, earns a deep dive, it's the two Nier games.
This is one of the best songs I've heard in my entire life
That made me CRY DAMMIT
Thanks for the reaction Tony!
Emi Evans and Nami Nakagawa sang this song as a duet in a 2016 concert, which is just as beautiful as this orchestral/choral version.
Ive been listening to this as of lately, so its great knowing more people are also enjoying it, such a great piece and for a reason it gets me so emotional.
I CAN HEAR THE WHOLE HUMANITY SINGING THIS
Just wanna say I bought this for 80$ and let me tell you it was not easy to find about a few days later Someone uploaded it on UA-cam for free.....
I feel sorry for you man. Anyways don’t feel down.
That's why I don't buy things lol
think about it as supporting the creators well worth it
You have to remember the quality is NOT as good on UA-cam as it would b with whatever medium ur playing it with
I'm also planning on buying the tracks. Sometimes to just gotta support the source of great music
I don't get bored saying this game is one of my favorites. Gorgeous. And the ost...amazing. I wish I could go to this kind of concerts.
Man this song just hits differently... so many emotions
Greatest soundtrack for a game I have ever heard, and one of the greatest games I have ever played. I can't even believe it, really.
I was not aware of this concert before seeing your reaction. Thank you for that. Hearing your input was very interesting also :)
I'm glad you liked the track Tony! There's a full video and audio recording of this piece and many other tracks somewhere out there. but I can never find where to watch it or where to buy it..
I'm currently playing through NieR:Automata and the soundtrack is absolutely extraordinary. This is amazing, and thank you for your reaction!
I need to play automata again but the OG version of this song comes from the previous game and features various vocal versions akin to the amusement park one you reacted to, great video and great song makes me get all in the feels
I was here.
It was memorable.
It was incredible.
Thank you Anthony.
Not me hearing Devola and Popola in the strings and sobbing, no sir.
song of the ancients it's a song that has stayed in my heart since I discovered it on youtube in 2010 TT my fav song since then
I’ve never heard this version but ever hair went up and chills during the violin solo. Gorgeous version
Whatever you're gonna pick from NieR, its gonna be amazing.
Snow in Summer - Another Edit Version from NieR Replicant ver.1.22 Soundtrack Weiss Edition is a nice one.
it's amazing how they released such great OST , and they even attached a great game to it.
The very first version of this song made for an older Nier game, that is also a really - really great piece with a really different instrumentation.
The name for first version is: Song of the Ancients - Fate
I'm not a fan of any re-arranged versions ever, as I am way too attached to the originals, but damn, this is some really beautiful stuff
I can't believe I'm saying this, but the weakest parts of this were whenever the melody of Song of the Ancients tried to surface
Hermoso juego, música bellísima... because of the recent anime adaptation, I came back to the game. It's still so beautiful.
Great video, so awesome to have chosen the orchestra version
orchestral version was a great pick! hope to keep seeing nier on here
I knew about song of the ancients but not that is had an orchestral version wow it's so high quality. I'm moved
this man needs to hear the Requiem of silence
This game has one of the most memorable moments a video game has given me in +30 years, definitely a must-play!
Im hoping to be able to snag tickets to the Vancouver show in Feb. Ive been wanting to go since they first started doing it and I know i will end up crying
I'm glad you got onto the Neir: Automata soundtrack. The whole game has some of the best music, which gives you a sense of rapture while gaming. The opera singer theme goes hard, if you get around to it.
Pretty much all music from the Nier series is worth a listen and im gonna sure as hell listen to every single video you make about this !
Also completely different, but I think you would love Snow in Summer from Nier Replicant. The old and new version are voth fantastic, but the newer version (2021) has this extra energy to it that gives me goosebumps
Keiichi Okabe will go down as one of the all-time great video game composers.
"oh my god" felt that
If you haven't already, I cannot give enough praise and recommendation to this game. If for no other reason than your love for music. This game has hands down the most gorgeous soundtrack I've ever heard, and the cherry on top is the incredible story that the plot tells, with the most interactive and eye-opening ending you'll ever see.
do weight of the world:nier automata or made in abyss ost's next please
end of YoRHa edition is where it's at for weight of the world
Where can i listen to this masterpiece??

Really hope to see him review the Devola & Popala version of this song
you should explore all of the nier soundtrack, its insanely good. It doesnt keep contained into the same style either its absolutely a masterpiece of a game much less soundtrack.
wish i could have this song on spotify
I really like this version and cant seem to find this exact version anywhere

nier automata music is absolutely amazing. My friend told me to just give the game a try for a long time I put it off, and it ended up being one of my favourite games of all time along side Red dead redemption 2 and persona 5 royal. (music in all 3 are amazing). I have actually shed a tear listening to weight of the world before, which is another song from the OST that deserves a listen, the Japanese version has a point during it that makes me get chills everytime. Hope you get around to more music from the OST!
Where can I find this music? I want to listen to the full concert
Tier 4 patreons coming in with another banger
I just can't find this piece anywhere.. Please help!
People who haven't played the game : Nice music
People who played the game: Oh my fucking heart and depression.
Nier (Origin more than Automata) has one of the best video game soundtracks of all time.
this start remembers me that Ravel happy orchestra song
I beg you, someone, the link of the original music video
The only place to find it that isn't a recording of the vinyl cd on youtube is on Amazon music it's a dollar to download. But it's an official port

One of the most beautiful, emotional and raw pieces from nier is definitely grandma, from the original nier. I suggest you give it a listen, it's great !
Please more Nier:Automata OST reacts!!!! I recomend Bipolar Nightmare or Dependent Weakling, it always gives me chills
Where can i find this version? pls, is just gorgeous
where can i find this orchestral version?? youtube or spotify?
Oh, this is a very different version of this. Very different feel with the whole chorus vs 1 or 2 singing to you.
this man really need to listen ghibli's music collection.
Favorite game of all time
Yes, the orchestral is amazing, but to me nothing beats chilling by a fountain and listening to the Devola version. Well, unless it's relaxing in the tavern listening to both twins.
Anyone got the link to the video he watched? I can’t find the exact one
I had it in the video description but I think it was removed unfortunately
Just got to ameant they killed it
Fun fact, I don't know if you know this, but Nier music is written in Chaos language, so the lyrics doesn't take away the attention of the player while still giving the music the Human feeling of words.
The description for the song is written wrongly can someone give me correct link pls
does someone know where i can find this music, i would like to find it

Have you thought about AmaLees version of edge or dawn?
I must say that east Asians bring more harmony into classical music, similar to the (taoism/buddhism?) philosophy where things have to be in harmony/balance to be effective
wow, why is the sound quality is so good?, like lm not listening from a youtube videos 😅
Anyone know where to listen to the full song ?

Is there any digital copy of this concert? Id love to listen to all the songs but ive had just about 0 luck finding anything online.
Next you could try the game version for comparison.
I’ve been watching all of your videos and they are so good bro, you should react to the 4 openings of ‘Love is War’, the music is so different and every opening is so good, trust me, I think you would enjoy them!
Man.... ngl, more reaction from the original Nier (or the V1.22 remake, of course) would be really nice.

Pretty epic.

I personally enjoy the Nier soundtrack outside of its orchestral format. The orchestral is more emotional and antidramatic which I casn see being more enjoyable for some out there but I enjoy the simplicity and more ambient sounds of the original soundtrack moreso than the orchestral.
