Dickerson had zero issues splitting time with Craig James at SMU. In later life he said it was the best thing for him. He was not over used at SMU and was fresh once he got into the pros.
BULLSHIT! He's #1 1,808 yds! Still an NFL record! WTF??!! Then comes back 2nd year! with 2,105 still an NFL record!! That's almost 4,000 yds. in just 2 seasons!!
Eric Dickerson was one of many incredible players in the GOAT of NFL Drafts 1983. It was known as the year of the QB with Elway, Marino, and Kelly. But you also had a pair of HOF Tackles in Jimbo Covert and Bruce Matthews. You also had HOF CB Darrell Green who could still run a sub 4.5 while collecting Social Security. And Eric Dickerson flashed from Day 1 in 1983 like Earl Campbell did in 1978. Did I mention this was an incredible class?
Erick Dickerson ran for over 7,000 in just four seasons, think about that! back then he faced the likes of Lawrence Taylor, Roni Lott, Reggie white and the infamous "1985" bear's defense. only the greatest defense of all time. and above that, outside of Jackie Slater, he did with a virtually unknown offensive line.

That’s number one 1808 rushing yards and 18 rushing touchdowns as a rookie *NFL records* First round pick for the Los Angeles Rams in the 1983 NFL draft out of Southern Methodist university
This is how back assward the NFL was in the 80s, they didn’t even televise the game he broke the rushing record on. I know, because when my dad and uncle found out the same day, they weren’t gonna televise it, they grabbed me my bro and cousins, hopped in the car, drove to Anheim Stadium, bought tickets from a scalper and we watched Eric Dickerson from the end zone seats run all over the Houston Oilers, breaking O.J.’s record. 😁👍
Physically the most talented running back of all time. If you had a team that had Jim Brown, OJ Simpson, Walter Payton, Barry Sanders, and Eric Dickerson at tailback…I would still start Eric.
Eric did it with some of the worst starting QB's in NFL history in Vince Ferragamo and Dieter Brock. There was no passing threat, he had to face 8 guys in the box most of the time which lets you know how good he was as well as his offensive line.
No way in the world Eric Dickerson should have split time with Craig James, and Craig could run but he was no where near Erics class as a running back, and his NFL career proved that!
Todd Gurley... Eric D.... Close. Eric was RIDICULOUSLY fast for a Big back. It took the fastest man (Daryl Green) in NFL history (arguably) to catch him from behind.
Ask the '85 Bears their opinion of him ! Better yet, watch his timid performance against them in the championship game...January 12, 1986... Rams 0 vs Bears 24.
They knew all about him by 85. He dropped 126 yards and 2 TDs on them in 83 for a win. In 84 another 2 TDs and 149 yards for the win. 86 he whipped them again for a win in Chicago with 111 yards. Even on a terrible Colts team in 88 Eric busted 100 yards and a TD on the Bears ass. In the 4 games versus Walter (83, 84, 85 & 86) Eric outperformed Sweetness each time. Payton never had a TD or 100 yards against the Rams. Even in that 85 playoff game where Eric had 46 yards and 2 fumbles on 17 carries he was better than Walter. Payton had 18 carries for just 32 yards and a fumble.
He was, by the media, and said that he was VERY lucky in winning that contest...and that the Bears WERE the better team and would "go all the way" ! 🥰@@alg8818
I hate when people exaggerate things like this when you don’t need to at all. No, Eric Dickerson could not have played a power forward in the NBA. It is fine to just say that Eric was tall and long and ran very upright for a back with that type of speed and lateral movement. Do you make yourself stupid saying stuff like that. In 1983 the nba mvp was a power forward, in fact, Moses Malone, who at 6’10 265 would have made Eric, big as he is, look helpless on the block.
Bull pucky. How does a season in which no records still stand and wasn't even the best WR that year, yet Dickerson leads the league in rushing and sets the rookie rushing records for yards and TD's that are still standing almost 40years later.
Dickerson had zero issues splitting time with Craig James at SMU. In later life he said it was the best thing for him. He was not over used at SMU and was fresh once he got into the pros.
Craig had a nice 1985 season, but eric. He's an all time great
wowee..what a backfield..James/Dickerson!!!!
He talked about this in a interview on The NFL NETWORK that he never complained about being the main guy in college at SMU.
Eric Dickerson was my favorite running back when I was a kid
Eric Dickerson a power forward I don't think so at 6'3 220 he might have been a shooting guard or point guard.
BULLSHIT! He's #1 1,808 yds! Still an NFL record! WTF??!! Then comes back 2nd year! with 2,105 still an NFL record!! That's almost 4,000 yds. in just 2 seasons!!
Totally agree
He is without a doubt the most graceful running back of all time.
Incredible speed, power and elegance!

And Curt Warner 3rd overall to Seattle. He and Eric led their conference in rushing as rookies. They would lead their conference again in 1986.
Erick Dickerson ran for over 7,000 in just four seasons, think about that! back then he faced the likes of Lawrence Taylor, Roni Lott, Reggie white and the infamous "1985" bear's defense. only the greatest defense of all time. and above that, outside of Jackie Slater, he did with a virtually unknown offensive line.
and us can ask 100 people who was handing him the ball in LA and Indiannapolis and I guarantee 90% wouldnt know.
Slater was a linebacker
And the cheap ass rams Should have paid him like it too!!!

I'm a Viking fan and love randy moss but this is number 1
Candy Moss didn’t even have the best rookie season in 1998
That’s number one
1808 rushing yards and 18 rushing touchdowns as a rookie
*NFL records*
First round pick for the Los Angeles Rams in the 1983 NFL draft out of Southern Methodist university
Defenses worried more about Dickerson than they did Moss, he should've been at the #1 spot....
I agree, putting moss as 1 is a joke, Dickerson or LT better years
All By Myself Tell this to opposing DBs who had to deal with Moss in his rookie yr.
Liberals Are Trash Ask DBs what is was like to see Moss looking at them across the line of scrimmage.
@@kiwanishinton9410 Moss forced Mike Rumph into retirement he was a 1st round choice
@@dwightlove3704 and how did Moss force Rumph into retirment, he played 6 or 7 years in the NFL. that is a long time ?
One of the greatest athletes of all time.
When y'all mention he broke OJ's record, y'all need to mention OJ did it in a 14-game season.
We know…
So glad this list is not infested with recency bias.

Underrated.

Dickerson and walter payton are the two best running backs in the NFL period..
Finally someone who knows 😀
Agreed
Facts
Jim Brown?
Big cap Barry sanders emmit smith Jim brown?.? Bo Jackson?? They are good but not as good as the people I listed
my favorite back of alltime
Is it me or Eric Dickerson is one of the most underrated RB of all time
*THE most underrated
Oh for sure id take him over emmit smith any day, if he had that cowboys oline, man dude probably would’ve ran for 2500 easy
Dude was phenomenal man
The Rams treated Eric Dickerson so bad! He was their entire offense and all he wanted was to get paid like the entire offense he was!
It's true...Eric never looks back while he is running. Cruise control set!
Eric Dickerson could’ve been power forward in the NBA? He was 6’3..,lol
I thought the same thing LMAO! More like a point guard!
That’s point guard height
@@extoriq353 Shooting Guard with obvious size.
OJ broke 2000 yards in 14 games. If they played 16 game seasons back then he would still have the single season record

Only non similarity I see that Derrick Henry lacks that ED has is lateral quickness/shiftyness.
Eric Dickerson was such a real true phenom with the Los Angeles Rams a amazing player running for 2,105 in 1984 season
