Dickerson had zero issues splitting time with Craig James at SMU. In later life he said it was the best thing for him. He was not over used at SMU and was fresh once he got into the pros.

Eric Dickerson was one of many incredible players in the GOAT of NFL Drafts 1983. It was known as the year of the QB with Elway, Marino, and Kelly. But you also had a pair of HOF Tackles in Jimbo Covert and Bruce Matthews. You also had HOF CB Darrell Green who could still run a sub 4.5 while collecting Social Security. And Eric Dickerson flashed from Day 1 in 1983 like Earl Campbell did in 1978. Did I mention this was an incredible class?

Erick Dickerson ran for over 7,000 in just four seasons, think about that! back then he faced the likes of Lawrence Taylor, Roni Lott, Reggie white and the infamous "1985" bear's defense. only the greatest defense of all time. and above that, outside of Jackie Slater, he did with a virtually unknown offensive line.

This is how back assward the NFL was in the 80s, they didn’t even televise the game he broke the rushing record on. I know, because when my dad and uncle found out the same day, they weren’t gonna televise it, they grabbed me my bro and cousins, hopped in the car, drove to Anheim Stadium, bought tickets from a scalper and we watched Eric Dickerson from the end zone seats run all over the Houston Oilers, breaking O.J.’s record. 😁👍

They knew all about him by 85. He dropped 126 yards and 2 TDs on them in 83 for a win. In 84 another 2 TDs and 149 yards for the win. 86 he whipped them again for a win in Chicago with 111 yards. Even on a terrible Colts team in 88 Eric busted 100 yards and a TD on the Bears ass. In the 4 games versus Walter (83, 84, 85 & 86) Eric outperformed Sweetness each time. Payton never had a TD or 100 yards against the Rams. Even in that 85 playoff game where Eric had 46 yards and 2 fumbles on 17 carries he was better than Walter. Payton had 18 carries for just 32 yards and a fumble.

I hate when people exaggerate things like this when you don’t need to at all. No, Eric Dickerson could not have played a power forward in the NBA. It is fine to just say that Eric was tall and long and ran very upright for a back with that type of speed and lateral movement. Do you make yourself stupid saying stuff like that. In 1983 the nba mvp was a power forward, in fact, Moses Malone, who at 6’10 265 would have made Eric, big as he is, look helpless on the block.
