Stressful Landing in Aspen with the Global Express - VLOG #33 - Global Life

- Welcome back to The Global Life!
This video takes us into Aspen, Colorado. Deemed one of the most challenging approaches in North America, and a bragging right in its own, landing in Aspen is a multifaceted challenge.
You'll notice a few things in this video
1. We got a GPWS "Caution Terrain" alert. This is because we flew the approach visual to reduce the approach angle and create a more stable profile. On a full IMC approach, hearing this means GET OUT NOW!
2. We had a TA (Traffic Advisory) on final due to an aircraft departing Aspen. As you'll notice, the flow of this airport is dictated by the valley. In one way, out the other!
3. On the approach, we were fully configured (Flaps 30, Gears down) prior to intercepting final approach course. This meant that as we proceeded down on the 6.5 approach angle we didn't have to also fight the airplane to retain VREF. The use of spoilers was also required!
As always, I tried to make this educational as well as entertaining. If you have any questions or comments, please do leave them in the comments below and I'll make sure to answer!
Happy New Year 2019 to all of you!

Thank you for not ruining the final approach with some music background! I enjoy hearing the cockpit conversations and sounds
Hahaha you're welcome 😂😂
Congratulations on your 4th stripe!
Another great quality and informative video. Looks like a real challenge into Aspen and it does go to show the value of proper briefing. Happy new year from a fellow Global driver..... fly safe.
Thank you Stu!!! Really appreciate the kind words. Happy New Year!
beautiful. thank you for sharing
Always my pleasure
Don't quit your day job for a dancing career lol. Thank you for all of the great vlogs this year and cant wait for 2019.. happy new year!
Hahahahahaha!!! Don't worry, I know 😂😂
Great job JD. Really enjoy your vlog, keep it up. ASE is always one of those airports that make my palms a little sweaty. Smooth flying in 2019 brother. HNY.
Cheers!! Same to you! And the citation handles great into there. Out of there is different 😂
Very cool approach! Nicely flown.
Merci! Happy New year!!
Nice approach. I was in Aspen on the 30th. Your Global probably was there. Yea that 6.5° descent is very interesting. Gear down, Flaps full before landing checks at DBL VOR and hope for the best lol. Happy new year and many more adventures in 2019.
Awesome! 30th was a good day for that! Thank you and same to you!
A deep one... a great advantage to fly an acft without foqa 🤘🏾
Hey FOQA is good ;)
Cool!
Amazing video, amazing landing, amazing scenery, and also some technical explanations ( yay! ).
Impressive the " traffic " call and the reaction!
May I ask if I've seen correctly that the PAPI lights were all white?
It is because the descent was like 6.49 degrees instead of the normal like 3.5, correct ?
Firstly, what a spectacular view from the cockpit, and your narrative to the non pilot viewer is awesome, you guys make it look so easy but I know that its down the crews professionalism, training and CRM which no doubt begins well before you even get to the plane. I did however notice one thing (yes I am an old line mechanic) that you did not have any covers installed on the a/c when you drove up, were they removed already. Only reason I ask is that where I work in Australia, we have a serious mud wasp (Brazilian Keyhole Wasp) issue so its pitot covers on within 10 mins of landing for every aircraft. Once again, a big thankyou for taking the time and effort to produce these videos, I totally understand the effort (and probably the approval of the owner/principal) that is required to do it.
Hey Shaun thank you for the comment, glad you liked the video! You're right to notice covers were no on, which was due to a mix of circumstances that time, but there is typically no big issues unless a lot of rain is expected or freezing condition.
@@GlobalLife Hi Jean, many thanks for the response. I can fully understand the reasoning behind this and the difficulty in fitting all of the covers especially on the engines. Your narratives are awesome Bien jouer (hope this is French for well done). Shaun
Haha merci! Hope to visit Australia again soon, love your beautiful country it reminds me a lot of Canada
AWWW..you cut out your Vr on takeoff....I live for that man!!!!!
Good show. Always good to have new light jet videos. More ATC and less music would be nice.
Thank you! And I forgot my ATC/headset adaptor at home :(
nice, keep up the commentary
Thank you!
Huge coincidence 36HA the DA2000 landing at the end there was me!
No way!! Small world!
@@GlobalLife ya man, crazy, small world indeed.
Beautiful video! Can I ask what your was over the threshold? It looked like you were floating so gently.
I can't remember! Our target is 50' over the threshold
Nice vídeo
Great dancer!!
Who s the pilot on left seat ,Tom Cruise???
Happy New Year for both and families
Regards from Angola
HAhahaha!! 🕺🕺 Happy New year!
Hello, Captain! Is the cabin pressure level of the plane you are flying the same as that of the new Global 6500?
Yessir
How often do you get to fly situations in the simulator?
We try to practice those scenarios yearly
Is it true only skilled/specifically trained pilots can land in Aspen? My bf is a sailor and we are moving to Colorado and he wants to fly out of there since it’s the closest. But I am a little worried about him flying in and out of there every month...
Hi! No worries to be had as all pilots I know going in and out of Aspen are thoroughly professional, prepared and skilled for the challenge they face. That being said if your boyfriend is planning on flying in himself he can definitely find resources to prepare as well at some flight training services and train in simulators.
Where is the nearest non kamikaze airport?
Boulder CO is pretty friendly, and Grand Junction I think?
I'd be dancing too if could crew on that baby.....
😂😂
Good video but as a youtube watcher I will suggest you pull back the camera from your face when you narrate. Wayyy to close bro. Gives you a bit of a headache and looks huge on an 80icnch tv.
