I got back rank mated today. The first time it's happened since watching this series. I was carried away attacking thinking I had won. I could hear Aman's disappointed voice in my head saying "You should have made an escape square for your king buddy!"
Interesting to me as a beginner the lack of variety so far in the opponents’ openings seeing as how we’re already at 1500, and also how within just a few moves inaccuracies usually start popping up. That seems to be one area where Building Habits is solid. The opening as white is clear, and as black the defensive scheme is responsive to white’s threats but still well-defined.

you asked for comment at the end of the show so here is mine. this is a brilliant series. it is changing the way i approach chess and I have to say i am already improving. amazing how just practicing fundamentals makes a difference.
Whenever I start going onto a losing streak I come back to these videos (around my rating). I just played a game and played 91% accuracy edit: second game had 90% accuracy
just a comment to help me remember this lesson. good games with london, sicilian, queen pawn, queen attack reviews. and thanks again to teacher. he repeats/reminds...don't be worried.
I really like this series. It is just right for my skill level and the explanations of thought process and move choice are really good and easy to understand! Thanks Aman!
He is doing much better now. These VODs are being uploaded quite a long time after they were streamed so he has gotten smashed and recovered many times since this one recorded.
at 1:08:31 GM Aman uses the term "PFT" again ... I understand the concept, I'm just not sure what the acronyn "PFT" stands for ? any clarification would be appreciated ! thanks !

People hang pieces in difficult to play positions. Your opponents aren’t hanging pieces because your play before it is inconsistent. Otherwise if you at 1400 aren’t blundering and the opponents aren’t blundering, you would have climbed by being more solid.
Dudes probably had a very similar position before with that Bxh3 tactic. Those moves are not hard to find. Especially since Aman is intentionally playing bad moves.
Surely it would be pretty much this, playing high percentage moves, but faster and with a bunch of safe-pre-moves at the end? Would it not just cut the real time discussion from the games?
@@UCBirdi absolutely, but seeing GM Aman play 1-minute games live using Habits would be incredibly instructive IMO, and maybe the discussion can occur during the analysis after the game
@@johnp845 It’s a bad series idea overall imo. Can’t explain what he’s doing mid game so it would be a ton of analysis which is better suited for slow chess where chat can engage before the answers are clearly given. Most the moves would be decided by having strong slower chess down to a science, playing bullet at low elo makes you a worse chess player, so it is antithetical to what habits is supposed to be about. Anyone getting instructive value out of it would have to be high elo already, which isn’t a lot of chatters.

Don't worry about it man! Making mistakes strengthens your play, every grandmaster has been back rank mated probably hundreds of times.
I did that too - lol.
That move will save you A LOT!

"Where do I put my rooks?" - most helpful minigame, wish "(non-obvious) rook development" was a quick-play puzzle category.
