The river gap not being included is the most sensible call... considering 3 guys jumped it in your last video without the race pressure and fatigue of the ride... you over shot the landing, one nearly missed the landing and the other almost died.. As if the consequences of not making the distance weren't enough you also have to factor in that if you do land it off centre you're literally doing the eternal yeet and disappearing off the edge right after the landing strip...
Yeah I agree, I also though right when I saw the first video about the jump, even though it’s Red Bull, I just feel like the jump didn’t fit, it feels like something that shouldn’t be in a dh race. and with everything being and making use of nature, this ugly tower of scaffolding looked ugly, I’m happy about this call
It was irresponsible to let them hit it without a safety net. I love Hardline, but my excitement turned into anxiety, and that's not why I watch. If you watch Bernard in slow mo, you can see just how huge those 2 compression points are on the lip. It's a bad design and it felt rushed and unsafe. Plus a lot of riders would've dropped out. No shot Dunne would hit it given his place in the standings and the year he's having, and if Jackson was healthy he wouldn't hit it either. Too much risk for too little of a reward.
@@FeatureFanatic951that's actually a really good point ... Yeah, the course is IMO the nicest in the world, the mix of natural and man made features blends into the landscape really well. Then you have that monstrosity and it sticks out like a sore thumb. The scaffolding and all the blue pads, it kinda just ruins the vibe.
It’s been rebuilt with a new lip with less compression they just couldn’t get a net in time as the council took too long to approve the planning but it’s been confirmed it’ll be in the course for the next 5 years 🤙
@@LKnight32 nothing really wrong with it being on the course for me… It just can’t be a feature that is guaranteed to kill the rider if they make a mistake… making it safer would also not reduce how fucking cool it is to jump such a big gap over the canyon. I suspect a bit more safety planing would also see the riders like the idea more and enjoy the feature rather than feeling terrified by it
It was a wicked cool jump but yeah safety for riders first. It's difficult to tell where the line is for "too crazy" when redbull is constantly redefining where that line is
@@kristian6622 I think this is kind of a legit comment. They are professionals and they are totally capable of deciding themselves if a jump is doable or not. We saw that it was possible (allthough extremely sketchy), and all of them have a good feeling for the speed necessary and how much you have to pull.
So glad the river gap got pulled. Hearing Mat 'relieved' that it's not being used but also dreading the drop that's back in as a result says to me that it's the right move. The drop is a feature that belongs in this type of event - a crazy dh race. The river gap has the shock and awe element for media use, but it shouldn't be used while at the level of risk involved. One serious incident there could really set back the future of these types of events.
Something about that jump felt very very cursed. As stoked as I was to see you Jim & BK go for it, I'm glad it's been removed. ROLL ON HARDLINE 2024!!!!
Jump was fucking insane! Would’ve been unreal to have it in the race but understandably why they removed it… Wonder if it would’ve made a difference if that jump would’ve been at the start with a massive ramp like they do in the Winter Olympics where they send the skiers off the ramp. They’re fresh, no popping off a rock feature with muddy caked on their tyres. Would be interesting!
those that crash on the jump would immortalize the sport. nothing is more appealing than watching someone do something knowing the risks. it taps into something primal.
Matt has improved so much from last years downhill, it’s pretty crazy. I would have never expected this stuff from Matt 12months ago. Jumping the house, testing and racing hardline etc…
Dude, love to see all parts of the track, even the small things that should be easy but are just horrible! I think maybe Hardline has become too focused on the big death-gaps, rather than the "actual" downhill. Big props to you guys, you're the best
Fascinating to see the track in such detail. Watching you guys blast down it doesn't give a true sense of just how jagged and treacherous the rock sections are. Seeing them like this increases the respect for your riding ability enormously. I look forward to watching the competition and hope you all complete it unscathed. Best of luck.
Matt, I appreciate your genuine and down to earth commentary as you explore the features of this course. Makes me realize that even professional bikers are human.
My god, watching you do multiple runs of this course the other day pov style cam was one thing... but this video of a walk through you see the track with so much more depth and reality! 😮 some of that is nuts!
Glad to see the river gap is out. You can never make that safe and the outcome of getting it wrong would be catastrophic for Hardline and future events. Sure it was a difficult call for the organisers but they made the right decision. At the end of the day, riders shouldn’t be put in situations where they are getting seriously injured or worse just for the sake of pushing boundaries beyond reasonable risk. I’ll be there on Sunday to watch the race unfold without any serious mishaps. Good luck to all the riders who take part and enjoy…👍👍
It's awesome to see how seemingly comfortable you take in the road gap now. It's hard to imagine that being dwarfed, but it seems the river gap may just have done that.
Hello Matt always good to see your video. You make watching videos fun You're sense of humor and wittiness with your buddies always has me cracking up and I don't even ride I'm a 60-year-old man. But I sure do enjoy watching you guys do what you do. As I have said before the vast majority of you people have brass balls. It's just amazing what you're willing to do on a bike. Looking forward to your next video. I know you have a life but if you'd put out 50 videos a week I'd watch every single one of them. Peace from Oregon
Okay this is my second day in a row watching one of your videos. Yesterdays jump was epic, the crash not much so. (hope dudes all right) but what I was going to say is if I spend two videos worth of time watching someone's content they get a sub and a thumbs up. Good luck brotha I'll be watchin!
I’m all for riding as hard as possible; however, I don’t want to see a pro-rider die because the jump is that gnarly. The river gap is too much without netting, and quite frankly, it would be a travesty if a rider ruined their career or life for one jump. Glad to see it removed as odd as that sounds.
Love the positive track walks, with all that positivity im surprised you even drop in lol. Not sure what they were thinking with the river gap that was nuts. No saftey padding if you came up short only beds down the bottom for the injured.
Great video for sure, the inside peek is great for the fans. Glad to see the river gap is being reconsidered from a safety standpoint for the riders. We watch to see them succeed and that gap jump looks to be a 50% or so success rate. Keep up the efforts and thanks for sharing!
Great thought provoking video....looks horrendously technical and scary....good luck for the race, Oh and big 'hats off' to to and Bernard for doing the River gap jump...that was scary!
Co-incidentally watched your video about the giant river gap on Thursday, then on Friday went on holiday to Wales, only to pass the exact place where the Redbull Hardline was going to run! Gutted I missed it by a day, but yeah the midgeys were terrible, the weather was rainy and the hills were awesome.
Looks sick! Glad they’ve taken the river jump out… next year with proper netting installed. Also stoked that Insta360 have got in on the action. Had both and would never go back to GoPro now
Good insight, even though Matts a pro he looks at it like I would and calls out all the savage stuff, all the other pros just walk by like yeah whatever!😂

good call getting rid of that gap, shit was hella dangerous and wouldn't be surprised if it ended up taking someone's life. big props to the course builders for putting the hype aside and changing it up
I think this is a wise choice, because of wind, which, even if calm elsewhere, could be unpredictably strong within that ravine, and nearly guaranteed to be a crosswind. But wow, the bragging rights: you landed a jump that's too hard for Hardline. You guys should make a t-shirt or something.
