Janet albums in the 80’s and 90’s are QUALITY through and through. Incredible lyrics, flawless and original production that still impresses decades later.

I feel so lucky growing up in the 80s and the 90s and listening to the music and musical artists of that time. Before the internet we were able to enjoy the music organically without the influence of social media. It’s heartening to see a young person enjoying this music the same way I did in my teens and 20s.

      Hey buddy,
I am a 21 year old and rn i am also on a JJ discography journey. I have listened to six albums so far (Janet., the velvet rope, all for you, damita jo, 20 y.o and discipline) and tbh i dont dislike any of them, i love all of them to varying degress. As far as Madonna and Kylie are concerned, i have been listening to them since i was 18 ! Artists of my generation are not even 10% good as them.

Honestly I think that without Janet Jackson and Madonna, we wouldn't have the amount of female artists who came way after them. Let's take Britney Spears, Beyoncé, JLo, Christina Aguilera, Rihanna and Lady Gaga as examples of female artists who have been inspired by Madonna and Janet Jackson.

Whoops Now was actually a “hidden track” on the cd. CDs sometimes had hidden tracks in the 90s. Now they’re called “bonus tracks” for digital exclusive releases.

I was gonna say this! "Sweet Dreams" ends the album, but then when Whoops Now was released as a single it was added as a proper track on the end rather than the hidden track! That's why it doesn't really fit!

janet. is Janet Jackson's biggest era in her career this is one of the best selling albums in history Janet reinventing herself from the "Girl Next Door" image to return as a sex goddess really one of the biggest reinventions in music she did a 360 with this album going from songs about political and injustice to songs about Womanhood and Sexual Freedom and Janet Jackson Rolling Stone cover still remains the most duplicated cover in history so many celebrities and fans copy that cover a lot of critics compare this album to Madonna's Erotica album but this album way better than Erotica in my opinion.

Interesting fact... Janet performed Throb on SNL (as well as Anytime Anyplace). It was the first time a club like song was performed on SNL. You should search for Throb SNL performance, it's really good. One of my favorite live performances of hers. Check it out!

WOW, you're just now listening to this iconic album from 1993? Do u realize how big that album was? How influential and mindblowing it was? The songs that slayed the charts on that record? Janet's whole entire look and style was off the chain. How could u not take notice of this album almost immediately? U must have had a lot of stuff going on in your life to not grab this album along the way during your lifetime. I'm surprised, but better late than never brother.

Janet Jackson and Madonna didn't have strong voices but look at their phenomenal and so influential music. They are amazing artists who "created" our modern pop stars.
Sorry but I still prefer Rhythm Nation 1814, The Velvet Rope and Control to the Janet album. Despite that New Agenda is my favorite non-single track by Janet

Really enjoying watching your journey. The one thing I will take away from this video is to avoid the DJ booth as I don't think I'll ever keep a straight face.😂😂 She did a cover of a song around this time called one more chance. Its defo worth a listen and a song with Elton johm called I know the truth.

When the album came out, it seemed like a natural progression for me. Probably because of my age. It was my time of sexual progression. So didn’t seem so out of place. Plus Madonna had the Sex book the prior year. This wasn’t going to shock me after that. OK. You know I’m gonna do it. There’s a nice little list of songs before Velvet Rope. 80’s non album single Diamonds with Herb Alpert. B-Sides from this album that turned up also on the Janet.Remixed album And On And On and 70’s Love Groove. From the Mo’ Money soundtrack The Best Things In Life Are Free. From Design Of A Decade, Runaway and Twenty Foreplay. And of course the iconic duet with Michael Jackson, Scream. All of these came out before Velvet Rope.

Janet’s true international breakthrough reaching #1 in Australia, Canada, New Zealand the U.K. and USA. Everything about this era along with Control and Rhythm Nation was perfect. The singles, the videos and the look. The Body That Loves You for me was more sexier than Any Time, Any Place. Whoops Now was released in Europe which I can see why as it sounds more suited to the European sound

One of the best selling albums in history this album is such a masterpiece her coming out sexy album Janet was heavily a threat to Madonna in sex appeal during this time my favorite song off the album is One More Chance and Where Are You Now also you gotta hear her janet. Remix she has 2 songs 70's Love Groove and On And On on it.

I love your love for pure perfection. Janet albums were a event, a gathering of love . Google her, it was simply amazing. She gave us hope. U must watch the velvet rope concert. You might want to wear short and a wife beater because u will go off. It was nominated for Emmy awards etc. The best I've been to in life. I've been to all Janet's concerts /tours. No one, on one is above this woman. She's blue print.

Her chart success peaked with this album. Control and Rhythm Nation are stronger albums imo. I got annoyed with the multiple interludes used on this album, and she continues to have them on following albums. Another thing that disappoints with this album is the production--almost all of the songs sound the same, a bit monotonous. That's The Way Love Goes and Again deserve their number 1 chart position. My personal favorite of this album is Where Are You Now.

    • @WCD199317

In fact, in this album, the deception was this album was less innovative to ''Control'' and ''Rhythm Nation'' (depist this was a very good album). But the biggest postitive way that that depiste this album was not so innovative (outside ''If'' and ''Any, Time, Any Place''), she risk to explore more styles then she never explored before, including house, hip-hop, rap, Swing/jazz, pop and bossa Nova. Because ''Rhytmn Nation'' and ''Control'' was less varied to this album. For the rock, she started to easy the rock with ''Black Cat'', before ''If'' and ''What's I'll Do''.
''That the Way Love Goes'' spend eight weeks in n.1 in US charts in may-june 1993

This ignores women, specifically black women like Donna Summer that were pushing the boundaries of sex in music well before Madonna. I mean Janet had sensual songs on Control and RN the big difference was the image change which was hinted at in the video for LWNDWY in 1991. And Janet is sensual album but not as raunchy as Erotica. Erotica is a great album but the way it was critically and commercially perceived couldn't have had anyone racing to replicate it.
